I share the less-that-enthusiastic tone of this review and most of the others I have read. But after curtain, Ms Goldman herself took the stage for a Q&A session that packed more entertainment than the show itself. One might consider the musical as a necessary prelude to her illuminating, charming and hysterical discourse. Certainly the remaining audience thought so.
Match.com is awful. The men on it aren't interested in women over 40, let alone 50. If you have kids, forget it. I found the same on JDate, although the men there were more polite about it. I met my boyfriend (we are now both in our 50s) on OKCupid, where I had a few other nice/OK dates and had actually stopped visiting the site for several months when my BF messaged me. I'd meant to turn off my account. Funny thing: we probably met at the time when OKC was secretly testing out opposites. Well, we've been together for 6 happy years, living separately for now but enjoying weekends, occasional travel, and each other.
It is a struggle indeed.
I dated and enjoyed a relationship with a much younger man, 21 years younger than myself.
It horrified and mystified my family and friends.
Was it all about sex?
Sometimes it was.
Married men?
They are a joy and talkative to boot.
God love the single man who is quite comfortable with enough hair in his ears to rival a forest in Bavaria.
He's not for me.
Sex after 50?
Absolutely.
Game on.

Are we all just intimidating sex toy oafs?
Rule 1: beware of stuffed vests (they're right below stuffed shirts).

I am far from a prude and have done my share of crossing more than one moral line but have no interest in rewarding/paying someone for rationalizing sleeping with married men who find women who help them rationalize their infidelity. Open your selfish eyes - I wonder how Goldman would have felt if her husband had been "that husband" for some curvy widow....

Sorry, but this does not pass the smell test. I read the article today about the author -- she claims to be 68. I am 61, and while no beauty, I could pass for her daughter. When I was divorced at age 36, I had to struggle to find dates because most men my age (in personal ads back then) wanted women under 35. Seriously. I was rejected for being TWELVE MONTHS too old ... by men who were 40 themselves!
I have divorced and widowed and always-single friends today who are 50-75 and they too struggle to find ANYONE to date, let alone 5-6 RICH boyfriends to lavish them with dinners at Per Se!
Either this woman is lying or she is suffering from a delusional mental illness.

Concerned, hold on there - these are not boyfriends. They are married men who are only interested in sex. Such men are much easier to find than boyfriends. I guess some of these men will even bed a woman in her late 60s - they want the same thing, ie. a superficial relationship with no future. Women looking for a quality man to share a future with would not be interested in these guys, and vice versa.

I believe this was her experience, as well. Which is why she registered on a dating site for married people who wanted to cheat on their spouses. She only dated married men, and married men often sleep with women they would never even think about dating "in real life."

Is there anything wrong with charging a funeral on a credit card and getting frequent flier miles? Sounds imminently sensible.

No, there is certainly nothing wrong with charging a funeral on a credit card and getting frequent flier miles. Why not ?

Ms. Gates' review is very accurate and a little too kind. This play is much too self-congratulatory and superficial, with instantly forgettable music, but a few funny lines. Save your money.
