Thank you Ms. Levine for remembering Dr. King.
In these troubled times, we could all stand to take a page or two from his book now.

Yes, Dr. King was responding to a little white girl from White Plains, New York, who wrote to him and expressed that she had read in the New York Times that the doctors had said that if he had sneezed, he would have died but, she the little white girl from White Plains, New York was so happy that he did not sneeze.

I'm surprised the article does not include the reference that Dr. King made in the speech to the high school girl who wrote him a letter:

" . . . And she said,

"While it should not matter, I would like to mention that I'm a white girl. I read in the paper of your misfortune, and of your suffering. And I read that if you had sneezed, you would have died. And I'm simply writing you to say that I'm so happy that you didn't sneeze."

Amen to that.
Hilary (Bronx)
I believe that Dr. King was responding to a get well letter written to him by a little girl. In the letter she expressed how happy she was that he didn't sneeze.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but you don't get to create your own facts (something that needs to be reiterated often now).

Given the extreme right turn that America chose to take two months ago, one wonders if America even cares anymore. Health care? About to be terminated. Voting rights? On life support. Fair housing? Ben Carson's about to do his master's will. Fairness in hiring? The Jeff Sessions Justice Department will side with racist, sexist employers. Roe v. Wade? A reactionary Congress and SCOTUS will return us to the days of Blue Denim.

What happened to America? What happened to your dream? Trumped by hate.

There are people who still care out here. Look at everyone protesting and speaking out. We are fighting the rich and that takes courage not just because of their influence, but because of those who love the rich and want to curry their favor.
Keep speaking truth to power and be hopeful that these dark days in American will pass.

my real worry is if activism becomes limited to posting comments online. then we are really doomed.

Thank you for the information on the MLK event at the Apollo Theater on Sunday. Can you create a list in tomorrow's "New York Today" that contains details on the various events taking place on Monday to honor Dr. King?

“We thank you, on behalf of the millions of this great city, for your courageous struggle to hold aloft the torch of brotherly love in the midst of deepening shadows of hate.”

To whom could our mayor extend these words today?

Now I understand the metaphor of the mountain top.

God bless you, Martin Luther King.

A weather forecast musing. Only a passing mention of Russia.

Tune of But Not For Me

They forecast weekend sun
But not for here
"Temps feel like spring's begun"
But not for here

So if you're keeping track
The cold will be right back
Don't need no Russian hack
To make that clear

We'll have two real nice days
No winter gear
But then this pleasant phase
Will disappear

Today you will not freeze
And Friday's sure to please
But no, spring is not here
Gertrudesdottir (Niceland)
I'll be humming this sweet tune all day!
