Delightful idea, nostalgic and whistful too, for those of us who recall too well the pre-boom days with fewer new towers and little more grit. Thanks for the fun piece.

Where did they shop for wedding gift for Jess and Marie and end up doing karaoke? Or was that a set and/or a store that no longer exists?

No mention of the Shakespeare Book Store. The store in the movie on Broadway and 81 Street I believe is gone but there is a store on Lexington and 68 Street.
Support your local bookstore.

The scene in the bookstore was filmed upstairs at Shakespeare & Co., at Broadway & 81st. Alas, closed in 1996.

One of my favorite movies. Carrie Fisher was so funny with her dry wit. But this really made me miss Nora Ephron the most.

update: most of the square block that Kay's Deli is located has been torn down for upscale housing: however I believe Katz's was land marked and building preserved.

RE: “When Harry Met Sally” is a New York City holiday classic dressed up as a romance.

I would say it's a romance with some holiday scenes.
One of my favorite movies.

My husband and I saw this a couple of weeks ago, spontaneously in bed on a rainy weekend morning-it's just so full of love and laughter. When we heard about Carrie, we just looked at each other – "we just saw that wonderful movie again"... Bittersweet.

This is a sitcom dressed up as a " film".
One of those things that gains respectability as it gets older, like ugly buildings and politicians.
Please, give me the film Manhattan.

I have never understood why feminists value this movie so much, ESPECIALLY the fake orgasm scene.

The message in that scene is simple: women lie and they are good liars.

On the one hand, some women criticize men for not giving them orgasms.
But how are men to know what they are doing right, if women lie?

That scene mocks men while presenting women as liars and whiners.

Lots of people value this movie. It's a classic. The scene is a classic--to many people.
Sexuality and orgasms are complicated subjects; your comments are peurile.

An overreaction to to humor.
