I think the real reason why Staten Island will never get a subway link is mainly due to the distance it is from both Brooklyn and Manhattan in which it will cost a lot just to build a rail tunnel or bridge alone with just that.

Margaret Mead?

I second this. Somewhere near the museum perhaps?

Re the Einstein hair forecast

Tune of Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling

Here comes that brainy guy hair day again
No need for you to have to explain
Don't have to bring along a comb now
You know that when you leave your home now
Folks may stop and stare
But when they look at your hair
They think you're just too smart to care

Yes it's that brainy guy hair day again
You think you look like you are sort of insane
They think that you're just in a rush now
Had no time to pick up a brush now
You could use some gel
But though you look unwell
They think you are as smart as hell

Repeat tomorrow

Freddie you had us frightened! I was just about to write a plaintive "Freddie- where are you???" comment. But most happily instead I liked your song posting and all is right with the world...almost. Can't wait to see your song Nov 9th!!! Thank You for all your bright starts to our days!!!
Freddie (New York, NY)
American girl, thanks so much

Hoping November 9 means a sigh of relief.
Brooklyn Lady (Borough Park, NY)
The Verrazano Festival of Races Half Marathon is happening tomorrow! It would have been nice to see that included.

How about a statue of Brooklyn's own, and the first woman to run for President...Shirley Chisholm.

THE ALBERT
While relativity
Was still a pup,
Einstein mastered
Making hair stand up.

Although it's true that male statues out number female statues, perhaps it is fairer to consider quality over quantity. After all one of the most significant statues known the world over stands tall in New York harbor. Lady liberty is hard to ignore.

As for central park, may I suggest Jacqueline Kennedy who lived, worked, and raised her children in Manhattan. She was the finest first lady of the 20th century and contributed to the cultural life of New York until the end of her life.

A statue of Jane Jacobs is essential.

Why no mention of Chumleys?

And btw, the doorbell at Attaboy dies not work.
Al Vyssotsky (Queens)
Jane Jacobs, yes!
CC (New York, NY)
Chumleys!

Thank you! I didn't know it was back until I saw this. And then read a bunch of articles bellyaching it is not the same dive, but I don’t care. I’m happy it lives on!
Annie Heartfield Hartzog (Maine)
How about Frances Perkins? She was the first female member of a presidential cabinet, and was the principal architect behind Roosevelt's New Deal. And yes, Rachel Carson!!

THE KOALA

O do not cuddle
The bouncing koala
Like a country bumpkin
From Walla Walla.

Marsupials
Demand respect.
Ask any 'roo--
This can be checked.

The mother koala
Sports a handy pouch,
And your hug would make
Her baby ouch,

While hugging the mate
Would make him glare,
For that's a thing
He will not bear.

Their button-cute kid
Being rolled in a stroller
Is kept content
With a Koala Cola,

And eucalyptus
Is all they chew,
Bringing smiles and giggles
To Whom's Whom in the Zoom.

Looking for a household
With a hoot and a holler?
You couldn't do better
Than the Family Koala.

I also discovered that there are only statues of men in Central Park while researching a paper at NYU. Kind of surprising in this day and age, isn't it? While we're on topic, how about a little triage before 2020? Literary Walk only has statues of male writers, as well, including some really obscure Scots. I've always wanted to donate benches along the walk with nameplates that ask "Where's Ayn Rand?" "Where's Maya Angelou?" and "Where's Edith Wharton?" Baby steps, but I don't have the cash. Do you?
Peter Magnan (Denville, NJ)
"Where's Ayn Rand?" Seriously?
llnyc (New York, NY)
Seriously. But choose your own favorite.

Eleanor Roosevelt is at least honored by a lovely statue at 72nd Street and Riverside park.

Eleanor Roosevelt should be in Washington Square. A friend of mine, now passed, told me he used to see her walking her dog in Washington Square when he was at NYU in the 1950s.

My wife grew up in one of the NYPL apartments as her father was the custodian of the Yorkville Branch Library from around 1943 until his retirement in the late 60's. It was the most wonderful experience for a young girl and her siblings to have all those books at their disposal , marvelous memories of Story Hours, and holiday celebrations as well as the the influence of the wonderful librarians who were almost part of the family. I have no doubt that living above the library played a big part in the fact that she went on to become a librarian herself. Thank you for this heartwarming article.

Fantastic. (<br/>)
Rachel Carson. Not just to honor a woman, but to honor a woman who was integral to the development of the environmental movement. Particularly apropos in a beautiful park like Central Park, and even more in an era where climate change makes environmental protection a literal matter of survival.
Jacques (New York)
A statue of Margaret Sanger, please!
