Who will be voting for Donald Trump? At this point, are there enough people in the group that supports him to make it possible that he could win?
12
When has Trump ever competed?
Lawyers and associates usually take care for this stuff for, since he has a checkbook.
Too bad he can't pay someone to debate for him.

It's surprising how often this "fact" gets repeated:
"A six time bankruptee ..."
Trump has never declared bankruptcy. Four times, companies he's controlled have, as he acknowledged during the debate. But Trump never has.
There seems to be considerable focus on "fact checking," but this whopper has been repeated hundreds upon hundreds of times by Clinton supporters.

Trump is pulling out all the stops and going nuts over her role as 'enabler' of Bubba's affairs, and 'prepping' for the second debate. You can count on a reinvigorated Trump in the second debate. It also seems Hillary's coughing bout is back, and it is anybody's guess what the polls will look like after the second or third debates.
Also, the apathy among the millennials for Hillary is more worrisome than Donald's late-night, wee-hour tweets.
Don't spike the ball yet.

Giuliani called Trump the “Babe Ruth of debating”. Ruth hit cleanup in a lineup known as Murderers Row. The lineup to make the case concerning matters of Clinton adultery; Trump, Gingrich, and Giuliani….Adulterers Row. Please, Donald, bring up Lewinsky, et al, in the next debate

LOL
I'm a Trump supporter
I am glad pollsters don't poll NYT posters- +150% Clinton, -50% Trump
I don't have a TV, and did a crossword puzzle instead, to spend my time usefully
But I got stuck on a word, logged on, turned off the sound and saw about six seconds of the debate, which was enough
Trump's 'game-plan' is bullying (I am value neutral on bullies, he is MY bully; and T Roosevelt spoke of 'bully pulpit')
T's bully-game worked on the pygmies (oops) called Pubs, so we thought T was 'T' for Tough, even as we knew Pubs were useless
= =
Ms C has been a punching bag for so long, her strength really, Queen of passive-aggressive, that punching her is like punching dough, or a tar baby (oops)
HER core strength (gender is an issue in passive aggressive)
=
Trump only vaguely knew it, his 'play' was failing, did not know why, in real-time
For the first time since T did his escalator entry, I said - 'this guy could lose !'
Ms C does 'grandma' very well, too bad (for T, and T-people), that the Clinton psychopath hides so well, although not hidden so well here though, in the fortress
=
T did not take her seriously, he violated the FIRST rule of warfare - 'honor the threat' -
We'll see if he learns, surely a gender thing
His ego DOES blind him; he just might not take women seriously, in 'grandma' mode, maybe some archaic antique chivalry/ chauvinism
But this KellyAnne (?) woman seems to be able to guru him, might teach him the arcana of fighting girls (oops)

So Trump gets enraged when his bullying & exploitation of women is revealed.
Is that cuz of the small hands...?

Where are Priebus, McConnell and Ryan after Trump' debate and follow-up this week? Surely they must have some distaste for Trump's fascination with a woman's weight, sex in general, and adultery.
30
Trump stated that he didn't prepare for the debate. That's enough of a reason to kick the orange clown to the curb. I'm voting Green party. One can ask why he didn't prepare, but what's the point? You simple must do your homework or be prepared to pay a price. That's a good lesson for all students to remember. Good work habits are important skills to acquire. Don't cram for exams, either.
Clinton baited him with the story of Miss Universe, and he fell for it as one could have predicted. It was a near nothing story, but a desire for revenge overtook him. He has made his bed at 3 a.m., now he must LIE, and tweet himself to death in it. He hasn't reached 400 lbs. yet, but he is well on his way.

3:30 in the morning and Donald Trump is awake by himself Tweeting angry, paranoid messages about a meaningless subject he can't let go of. This man is Richard Nixon already, without the smarts or diplomatic skills. He is a frightening statement on the condition of our democracy and the shame of today's Republican Party.
51
Someone who tweets at 3 am in the morning about former beauty queen's weight and makes up stories about her "sex tapes" should be 30 points behind.
We are a nation of deeply damaged people.

As a 'Never Trump' Republican I ask fellow Republicans to take a sober look at the persona that is the party standard bearer. This whole affair would be funny if it were not so important.

We'll have to see what non-scandals about Clinton the NYTimes can find to write stories about between now and the election. The Times seems determined to find something to suggest there is some equivalency between the flaws of these two candidates. The truly stupid Goldman Sachs story was the most recent example of this. It disclosed not one specific act of wrongdoing but was filled with innuendo. There is simply no factual basis for insisting that these candidates are equally or similarly flawed. Clinton is, like some many of us, flawed and she will, also like most of us, continue to make mistakes. Trump is an unstable, demagogue who has stirred by scary white rage and has no business being anywhere near nuclear weapons. The fact that the Times news editors do not seem to understand these very significant differences is the scariest thing about this election.
96
Trump did sound a bit casual for my liking and he needed to remain at the button throughout... He allowed Clinton to get away with it coz rather than casting aspersions and accusations at her ,he entrapped himself into bundles of lies thrown by her. Hence gifting a chance to his detractors to further calumniate against him.
Trump should've pressed on the point that Clinton represents everything which common masses dislike about the 'Establishment' and he offers a change which they hope for ,And that change isnt as unpredictable as media are very vehemently projecting it to be.
Regarding the antiWOMAN issue , He should've explicitly stated the obvious that this is a clear case of classic smear campaign , where Clinton in collusion with media have unleashed a relentless movement against him to sully his image and influence voters opinion through manufactured falsehoods , although he should've also added the 'Public' doesnt cares of such sideshow irrelevant noises.
But unfortunately , he didn't mentioned any of the above.

Donald has gone over the edge. He said in Grand Rapids, MI today he's leading in the polls. La la land. Truth is, his mind is so twisted, he believes it.
69
Its interesting to be an observer of this election -- that Trump, being such an lying anomaly, garners so much media screen time because he's such an idiot and people are waiting for him to self-destruct, that it now appears that he's got the momentum and the benefit of hours of free advertising. Clinton, on the other hand, has been rational and rather boring in her messaging, and her numbers seem stagnant, compared to Trump. The debates (and the split screen presentations) are the best things to happen to Hillary -- it gives her hours of free screen time as well, and a platform to compare the two at the same time. I'm hoping Trump's numbers are as high as they can be nationally, and Clintons are as low -- if this is the case, Clinton is in good shape.

HRC is only improving in CA, NY, MA & NJ.
One more collapse in a gutter and it's over.

Geez, how come NYT and all those liberals just ignore this polling? Unscientific? http://www.latimes.com/politics/
12
Republicans are not used to seeing Trump upstaged by anyone, much less by a woman dressed in red who keeps her cool, laughs in his face, and can't be bullied to back down.
In simple school yard lingo, Donald got beat up by a girl. To Republicans that looked bad. Gawd awful bad.
The Donald is now in the same place as the Wicked Witch of the West after Dorothy (think Hillary) doused her with a bucket of water, and now Donald's poll numbers are melting...melting...who would think that a little girl like Hillary could destroy his beautiful wickedness! What world, what a world...

Good! You lemmings can have the same old same old! Nothing will ever change! The establishment wins!
10
No debate that from now until the election day there will be wild swings in poll numbers for Clinton and Trump. One thing for sure is that Gary Johnson and Jill Stein have zero chance.
17
Trump is like someone you meet in a bar while drunk, take home and in the morning you say to yourself, "Oh, no!".
Hope that "Oh, no" moment for Trump supporters comes before the election.
Hope that "Oh, no" moment for Trump supporters comes before the election.

It's always surprising to me that poll results are so volatile. Are many voters so lack in awareness that they change their minds from week to week about very different sorts of candidates? Can you like Trump or Clinton this week and dislike your preferred candidate the next? Is there no ideology involved in political decision making for many people? "Hillary's dress was nice during the interview. Think I'll support her." "Saw Trump's daughter on tv and she seemed solid. He's got my vote."
24
Poor Mr. Donald. He is doomed if he keeps this up. But he won't be taught because he can't be taught. He has no attention span to retain anything. Without a teleprompter he simply can't keep up.
He searches his spinning mind. Nope. Nothing there. Only old word salads, limp and stale. Will have to do. Shout louder, interrupt more. Frown, roll eyes, look annoyed, angry. Oh that's really scary. Hilary shimmies her shoulders and says, "Whoo!" with a big smile. Wonder who won that one?
After the next disaster of a debate which will go pretty much like the last one, Trump will go on the internet and find out he just nailed it again. His adoring fans will congratulate him on his marvelous win and he will fire some more of his people for betraying him to the mean stream media. He will go back to rallies where he's loved and when he loses the election will truly believe he's been robbed. What a ridiculous show.
Now if both parties had properly assessed the mood of the electorate and fielded candidates who might have addressed their concerns you might have had a proper election instead of this farce, which I'm actually starting to enjoy now. Might as well. Getting tired of being freaked out.

Many undecided voters were giving Trump one last opportunity to see if he could form a cogent thought or argument during the debate and he failed miserably. The ships pretty much sailed for Hillary now- All the way to the Oval Office. I just hope she doesn't get us in a war with Russia. Thank goodness we still have Bill around though- we'll probably see and hear more from him than her.. perfectly fine by me.
17
Another fine and sensible argument from Mr. Cohn, whose level-headed analysis and survey of polls contrasts so sharply with the hot-headed ravings more commonly heard on television programs.
One point, however, bears reconsideration: Calling Trump an "extraordinary" candidate has too many positive connotations, in my view, for such a reckless and incompetent man. Might I suggest instead some other epithet to describe him? - Unprecedented? Possibly. Unusual? Definitely. Irritating? Without a doubt.

Donald Trump is the WORST. Up at 3am ruminating like a teenager because someone offended him. Good. God.
Donald--if you re reading, keep it up. You are showing your true self. All that interrupting, sniveling, whining, mansplaining, was revealing. Equally revealing--you know NOTHING. You have no ideas. No policies. All you care about is feeding that bottomless pit you call your ego.
Dude--go work our your daddy issues elsewhere. This country is too good for the likes of you. Take your cheating, no-tax paying, dog-eat-dog, mysoginistic blather elsewhere. Get therapy. Find religion. Exercise something other than your mouth but leave us alone.

All I know is my blood pressure went straight back down to a healthy level right after the debate and I've felt good ever since. Trump's "movement" is headed out the door, although I am concerned that so many young are falling for the Gary Johnson spiel. The reason he can't name a leader he respects is because there is no such thing as a (successful) libertarian leader. Do not be dazzled by the "social freedoms" and then find yourself without a safety net in a corporate hellhole. Vote smart.
37
It doesn't have to keep going on its own legs if it gets another booster shot at the next debate. I wonder what traps he'll blunder into then.
2
She definitely showed me she has temerity and wherewithal . . . and poise.
I think Donald really showed himself for who is for the first time to a lot of fence-line voters in the middle conservative range. Many have listened to his soundbites from nightly news casts but I bet this was the first time that many have seen him in a situation that at least vaguely reflects what being a president is like. And he failed miserably.
But more importantly, Hillary did great. I wasn't totally surprised but . . I was pleasantly surprised.
I hope that those leaders of the Republican party are sick to their stomachs after Monday night over their choice to support this detestable and embarrassing man.

Hillary Clinton will be next president of the US.

The horse race continues ( and by that I mean the media driven one )
The numbers are baked in to a certain degree, but with so many polls out there with such wildly varying criteria, you are going to get a bump or valley every other day. A 3 or 4 point swing one way or the other and the media goes apoplectic trying to analyze the reasons why.
Secretary Clinton is staying the course and trying to be prepared every waking moment for any eventuality. It shows more and more in contrast to Mr. Trump winging it, ( especially in the wee hours of the morn )
Americans of all political stripe continuously want change for change's sake, thinking that something new will ''change'' their lot in life. ( especially if it is not so great )
I cannot blame people for trying to cling onto something that they perceive will help them in the long run, ( there is religion after all ) but I want someone at the helm that is prepared, intelligent and well versed with the issues.
Secretary Clinton foots the bill on all counts and has my vote.

In other words, it all depends on the turnout.

I must have been watching the wrong debate. You people are something else. Blasting a guy for the same qualities you are displaying in your missives here. There will be much wringing of hands and further gnashing of socialist teeth before now and Nov. 8. You're living a dreamland.
2
Good!
I suspect Hillary's lead will continue to increase as people witness DT's absolutely unhinged attacks on Ms Machado. He must be experiencing near psychotic levels of anxiety and rage, up at 3am tweeting over and over again against this poor woman. Any sane and balanced person would have simply ignored Hillary's comment at the debate and focused on the election.
Who ARE these people that envision Trump as remotely capable of being President?

I get that the Times' pollster needs to comment on polls.
But this column is nothing but "hocus pocus" and it would be better if he just hadn't written it.

This former Democrat of 26 years did not watch the debate - what's the point? The two major parties have produced two equally abysmal candidates.
Lawyers for the DNC have admitted they committed electoral fraud. It’s the basis of their defense to the lawsuit we (Bernie supporters) filed against them. Electoral fraud is a felony. It is treason. Why is no one being arrested? Why is the entire primary not being decertified? Why are you allowing this America? If we ignore this it will become the norm for all future "elections".

There's no bump for Trump,
Who is such a big grump.
Into his mouth he stuck a limb in,
About the way he treats women.
His chances don't seem too plump.

As stated in your column, the media is in large part responsible for the volatility of the polls because of constant negative articles or more articles about one candidate than the other. It doesn't mean as much as the media makes it out to. In fact, I don't think the media cares about irresponsible articles or weighted coverage. As long as your parent company makes a buck and you guys get a byline, all is good. Please don't act like you care if you affect the outcome or have the entire voting public stressed to the gills. And I don't expect you to print this as you guys don't seem to be able to take criticism. It's only the Republic at stake.
2
The only thing that the debate has shown was that Hillary has splendidly memorized all the possible answers as drafted by her able, high paid advisers. It also showed how cunning she is.
We all remember the girl in college or in high-school who worked very hard to memorize all her lessons to compensate for he lack of real ability.
Hillary's been doing this to compensate for her lack of judgement and her terrible track record as a NY senator (the financial meltdown, bringing TATA industries the biggest Indian outsourcer comp to kill NY jobs, her cozy ties to WS, the vote in Iraq when millions of people were begging her not to) and Secretary of State, all the while selling political influence for hundred of millions of dollars via her family foundation, and deleting her tracks with Bleach Bit and the Hammer.

We shouldn't be overconfident as Democrats. But it appears that there is no hole that Donald can get himself into that he won't adamantly insist on digging even deeper.
14
Trump spoke to the people. Hillary speaks to her base. The people love Trump and show up by the thousands to see him. Hillary the liar will be rejected come November.
2
This would be an excellent time for everyone on the Times' staff to change their adult diapers in anticipation of the next Clinton downturn. The instruments in an ICU don't get nearly the breathless scrutiny that the polls do here.
3
One debate told me all I needed to know.
Trump is a disaster not waiting to happen. He's at it at 3 in the morning.
Clinton is the adult in the room. She's a good person.
Trump isn't qualified to be a town councilman let alone any position with greater responsibility. He has the attention span of a Newt, and I don't mean Gingrich. I mean the under the rock dwelling variety.

Reality check neither canidate republican or democrat got the required national vote precent 15 to debate .Only canidate who actually qualified by rules Jill Stein who had 76 percent of national vote because these voters refused to vote for democrat or republican.Other 23 percent are either criminals an cant vote or illegal aleins or children

This race has been like running an emotional marathon. So, can we please just take a moment to bask in the positive state of things before worrying if it'll stick around?
6
One candidate chases his own tail in the middle of the night and vomits all over himself with cuckoo clock-like regularity.
The other candidate addresses voters, expounds on her platform of responses to the country's pressing challenges, asking her supporters to get involved in volunteerism and national service.
One candidate got Osama bin Laden; the other one fired Miss Housekeeping.
One candidate got endorsed by 88 retired generals and 75 non-partisan diplomats and ambassadors, visited 112 countries and had substantive discussions with heads of state, supervised peace negotiations, oversaw the release of dissidents and sat for 11 hours without a potty break under congressional subpoena answering questions on Benghazi.
The other one insults veterans, knows nothing about foreign affairs and has been denounced by a former acting CIA director as a Russian Patsy.
Such a difficult choice this year. Really, I just don't have any idea what to do.

"Clinton will be lucky she gets elected; let alone get a friendly Congress."
The "elected" part is looking pretty good for Clinton at the moment, but nobody seriously thinks she'll get control of the House. Only the Senate votes on Supreme Court nominees, and that's extremely important, but the odds that Clinton will get any meaningful legislation through Congress are slim to none, and Slim just left town.

Great, so the American people can look forward to another 4 (or 8?) years of legislative gridlock, bought to you by the GOP.
I guess a Republican controlled Senate , will decide they won't consider any SCOTUS appointees until the "next election" too.

Nate Cohn has it right. Basically, Trump has no more support. He has failed to broaden his constituency, and by further catering to the crude supporters that he has, he puts off intelligent, civil, shall we say, Christian? people. His is the insult that goes only so far. It gains no more voters.
It's funny, because the advent of Trump does reveal the statistical population that, as we might say in Durkheimian terms, is alienated. But were the entire population alienated, then we'd, uh, have anarchy. They would define a new statistical norm. We don't see that.
And another issue for Trump supporters is that, if their buddy gets in office in November, he's going to have to deliver for them. He can't. So this appearance of Trump supporters in the polls is a statistical blip. It can't define any new classifier, because it is so ill-defined, being based on shear emotion and irrationality.
Tump is pushing voters *toward* Hillary Clinton. The few intelligent people who have signed on to this loose cannon's campaign surely must see that risk. They plough on with Trump's irrationality in order to serve the unwashed masses. They should be elevating them. It's not a large enough population to produce victory in November.

The Donald Trump supporters are proudly mean spirited, ignorant, racist and thankfully, at this point, not enough of them to put the orange imbecile in the White House. There will be the behind the curtain factor, that a number of people, who are too cowardly to openly declare they support an insane racist, when they're behind the curtain pull the Donald Trump lever. Hopefully, now too many.

Different events within the campaign cycle affects polling results in different ways. A gaffe one way, a scandal another way. But debates are important weather vanes because it presents the two candidates in a high pressure situation, for which there is no replay. You either did well, not so well, or lousy.
Not only that, the first debate can leave lasting impressions of the candidate's "presidential" timber and mettle.
In this sense post-debate polls should logically have a more lasting influence than the day to day ups and downs of the campaign, unless it is something way more dramatic than the debate.
Not only that, the debates come late in the campaign, only a few weeks before the voting. So by then impressions of the candidates have more or less gelled. The degree of fluctuation is going to smaller heading into the election.

What's not to like about a,
Twice divorced, thrice married serial philandering crude misogynist with the temerity to opine and castigate any and all all women?
A six time bankruptee who has made a habit of robbing workers, defrauding contractors, fleecing investors and stoops to grub for nickels with Trump University and Trump Institute?
A belligerent, bellicose, preening, pretentious pretender to Commander in Chief who is a Viet Nam draft dodging coward?
A self proclaimed gazillionaire, who hides his tax returns, gives pennies to charity and is a documentable cheapskate?

Hillary has yet to deliver a positive message of hope, or one convincing us that it's a good idea to elect someone who monetized her office as Secretary of State even as our position as the trusted leaders of the free world has eroded.
Her plain record of acting to thwart legally required record keeping and covert war on transparency puts her in the disqualified column for me.
Four more years of a mordant economy with higher taxes on the middle class, ever more intrusive Federal government, and failing health care despite billions in higher costs do not appeal to many taxpayers.

nothing would convince you - your comment about higher taxes for the middle class - is nonsensical gibberish - jut like your real hero lumpy.

Old: You probably should read the WaPo.
You complain about the Clintons, but the Trump Foundation is not evn properly registered, and has been used in wantonly illegal means for self-dealing, payment of debts accrued by Trump's for profit businesses, and one big fat political contribution that just happened to coincide with the beneficiary dropping an investigation of a scam, sham "university" already under investigation by other states and the subject of a class action lawsuit.
And the guy couldn't resist a middle of the night twitter rant about Miss Universe 1996? Still can't let it go after five days? And you disqualify Clinton? Look, I don't love her, at all, but Trump is a deranged, disinhibited, narcissistic know nothing boob.
And if Alicia Machado is "an eating machine," what does that make him and Chris Christie? Get a grip. I thought engineers were supposed to be problem solvers?

So, what are you waiting for?? -- for Clinton to walk on water because that's what it sounds like.
Another thing. It's time you woke up to what Trump is about. It's all about him all the time, and he's got nothing more than the usual arsenal of ready-made insults to deflecct from the fact that he hasn't go a clue of what the office of presidensy entails.
Time to wake up. Trump is only in it for himself.

The only poll that counts will be on November 8th when we will know if we are going to plunge into a dark abyss, or at least maintain the status quo with the election of Hillary Clinton. Will continue with the aspirin and brown bag breathing until then.
Donald Trump was far outshone by Hillary Clinton in the debate. His supporters are twisting themselves into pretzels trying to explain his poor performance. I have seen everything from Clinton supposedly having a secret earpiece to Lester Holt throwing the debate. They just do not want to believe their candidate is really that unknowledgeable and really that immature, and really that unfit to be President. Let us hope he stays true to form and turns in even worse performances in the debates to follow.

Hillary may not be ahead in the polls, but I can pretty much guarantee that she will be the next president. Younger voters tend to be more aligned with liberal policies and many election forecasts have her in the lead:
http://www.reuters.com/statesofthenation/ 45% Clinton, 40% Trump
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/upshot/presidential-polls-foreca... - Clinton has a 75% chance

It does not worried me much about what Trump says or tweets as I am about what Hillary has done, her lies about her e-mails, deleting information under subpoena, her lies about Benghazi where four brave Americans died, her lies to congress, the FBI cover-up of her e-mails and foundation, her selling access to the state department for donations to her foundation, her corruption in Haiti, her destruction of her devices, her having classified information in an unclassified setting. Of course the main street media is not concerned about our country, they are just concerned about getting dirt on Trump. Words don't hurt our country, but her actions have put us at risk and more danger.
25
Personally I want a Commander in Chief who knows how to think a few steps ahead, knows how to strategize. This would not be Donald Trump who can't even construct a paragraph and falls into any trap that anyone ever lays for him. This might be someone more like a woman who has defeated 25 years of attempts to discredit her.
This also goes to the idea of using a private email server. Somebody who was concerned with privacy given all of the hacking of private corporations and government agencies we have seen, is the person I want to be our chief military conspirator if it ever comes to committing American troops. This would not be Donald Trump either because he can never refrain from blurting out what occurs to him at the moment.

Just about every thing you accuse Clinton of suggests you have been following the right wing echo chamber about the Clintons for the last 30 years. There were I think seven congressional investigations into Benghazi and one 11-hour grilling, and nothing came of it that claims Clinton was derelict in duty, not even a Congressional rebuke. During the Bush administration there were more killings of American diplomats in the Middle East than the four in the Obama administration. You can look it up.
I can go on and on about how the right wing's hatred of the Clintons has turned them into "enemies of the state." When you ask why they have never been charged for any crimes, the answer is that they in some way have paid off somebody, but details are always vague.
It is a no-win situation for Clinton, and she has weathered it all with a dignity that few others in the same circumstances can show.
Win or lose, she has demonstrated an immeasurably greater quantum of character and poise than the other candidate.

Tonyjim, When you read or listen to only one "news" source, you're only going to get one viewpoint.
Mrs. Clinton did indeed make a mistake with her email server, something she readily admits, but there is no evidence that she jeopardized national security, and not only did the FBI not find her to be indictable, but after she was grilled for hours by her adversaries in Congress, they found nothing.
For the umpteenth time, Benghazi, though certainly tragic, pales in comparison to other national security blunders which have occurred during all recent administrations. Why are you so hung up on that one?
Also, there has been no evidence of any pay to play with regard to the Clinton Foundation, which in fact has done a lot of good in this world.
For you to say "Of course the main street media is not concerned about our country" is very sad, and only shows how deluded you are.

Before this debate, Trump could just stand on a stage and bloviate and bluster unchallenged.
During the Republican debates, he was the star attraction standing in the middle of The Confederacy of Dunces, mostly unchallenged.
This is the first time someone - Hillary Clinton - has publicly called Donald on the carpet for the cultured stupidity and nonsense coming out of his mouth.
This is the first time someone has publicly exposed him as a fraud and a phony to his face, and it showed.
Trump came off looking like an idiot.
Most people are not comfortable voting for an idiot.

He was an embarrassment. I cringe for his children. Long after he is gone, they will have to remember the burning shame they must have felt watching him bluster and squawk like a common farm animal: making a ton of noise but saying nothing.
He is a bottomless pit of need and ego and he should really go work out his psychological problems in therapy.

Or voting for a two faced liar, hence the deadlock.

Lester won the debate.
Remind us of why we should vote for a failed candidate rather than telling us how scary and disgusting the other guy is said to be.

It is not enough that Trump does not win; the Senate and the House must turn as well. Without the Senate and the House we have four more years of Republican obstructionism, non-governance, and faulty fiscal policies driving the selection of programs for the country. Clinton has to win big; she has to draw voters to the contra-Republican candidates down ballot. We the voters must turn the Republicans out. The Republicans have nominated a buffoon that has no business being the President of the United States. The Republicans in the House and the Senate have supported this fatally flawed GOP Presidential candidate; the GOP Representatives and Senators have put a) Party before Country, b) self-interest before what is best for the country, and c) have amply demonstrated they make bad decisions when it comes to governing. The GOP incumbents should be removed from office and all challenging GOP candidates should be denied. The American voter wants a change? Start by changing Congress!
226
They are not going to go Democratic, not with Clinton. Sanders might have been able to do. Biden might have been able to do it. Clinton will be lucky she gets elected; let alone get a friendly Congress.
20
We get it Nick: You don't like Clinton. What's the point in voting against her, though if you hate the other guy more? Or do you?
2
@Nick—Let it go, man.
3
Every reason to think, IMHO, that the upcoming Town Hall format will exaggerate the rhetorical differences between these candidates. If she projects more of those qualities she displayed in last week's debate -- thoughtfulness, warmth, and a relaxed, confident demeanor, and he "goes low," as he has promised to do, the more intimate Town Hall setting should highlight the contrast and, I hope, make clear the obvious choice to be made on November 8.
151
I give Trump all of about 20 minutes before he goes off script. (I watched some of his deposition today from the Old Post Office lawsuit. He's certainly good at talking to lawyers, but he does have a tell: he sniffs when he's flustered.)
3
My only fear is with a town hall is that it gives him further permission for his verbal bullying and interrupting/
I remember watching my first American debate as a child--we were immigrants. It was Jimmy Carter, John Anderson (member him?) and Ronald Reagan. The idea of someone running over the clock or heavens forbid, breaking the rules via interrupting was unthinkable. When did we fall so low?

The news media have (finally) gotten it right: They now include the "margin of error" in their "reporting' -- plus or minus 3, 4, or 5 percentage points. But when did you last see an article that noted the *confidence level* of the poll -- usually about 95%; to get more certainty than that would be very costly. What that confidence level really means is that there is a 5% chance that any given poll is completely wrong. 5% is one in 20, so any poll that is conducted at a 95% confidence level has a 1-in-20 chance of being totally wrong, an outlier. Give me 20 poll results and one, statistically, will be wrong. So, Nate, please become a trendsetter and tell us the confidence level of all these polls: Are they at 100%? 95%? 90%? How *confident* can we be in what my statistics professor would phrase as, "There is a 95% chance that the real number is X, give or take 3 or 4 percentage points." But there's a chance that the poll is just very loud noise.
4
Would you have made the same post if it appeared that Trump won the debate? I don't think so. I bet that after the election you will tell us about all of the election fraud and how Trump actually won.

Tomorrow begins October; it is surprise time. On 17 October, ballots are mailed on Colorado, fro those who vote by mail in. I am waiting fro the expected WikiLeaks bombshell.
16
You're hoping for a home run with two outs to go, it seems to me, Nick. I'm really glad I'm not a Trump fan. Is it too late to draft Jeb!?
2
Keep waiting.
October surprises tend not to exist they are merely a figment of the press' imagination.

In very general terms, Trump entered the race last year and was highly regarded as a joke candidate. Recall Jon Stewart or any number of comedians salivating at the idea of a Trump campaign knowing full well that the man was the source material for endless jokes and laughter.
Over time the media attention and in particular in my mind, the violence at his rallies seemed to change the perception of Trump. He went from joke to feared demagogue and worse, someone who would unleash ‘the basket of deplorables’ on America. He would give demagogic approval to the deplorables to force more violence, more hate, more irrationality, more divisiveness, and be free of thoughtful careful policy, fine character, basic reasonable decorum, and even the fundamental human emotions of empathy and compassion.
Right now I think there’s another shift occurring. He is indeed the laughingstock, he is the joke source. It's back. The media is less enthralled with his potential validity as a candidate. We’ve gotten more familiar with his supporters and understanding little by little what they seek and why, and how they learned these things. That divide remains, Trump added fuel to it and this is his miserable legacy. The debate was the exclamation point though. Trump is utterly unprepared, utterly ill informed, utterly ill tempered, he’s seeks revenge over embarrassing sideshow escapades and pours endless effort into them. It's pathetic.

Here is what is good news for Donald Trump. As bad and as clueless as he appeared at the debate, the American public can shift its opinion based on one unforeseen news story. Easily distracted and fickle the American public can be that easily swayed or manipulated. Clinton's team must still feel rather queasy at the closeness of the race. If Trump does win it will because working class white males will turn out in large numbers because in Trump, God help us, they have a candidate that acts and thinks just like them.
27
Don't be so quick to dis the folks who produce the food, fuel, and fiber that come from flyover country to make city life possible.
Some have thoughts that rival yours for validity.

1
I am a white, working-class male and, believe me, I do not think or act like Trump. And I believe that it is a shame that Trump and his pack of deplorables give white, working-class males such a bad name.
5
Finally, just the two of them. The debate showed for the first time the stark contrast between Clinton and Trump. Voters could finally see for themselves the glaringly obvious fact that Trump is utterly unprepared and unfit for the job. I was proud to witness this brilliant, savvy, prepared candidate easily outsmart the rambling, incoherent, ignorant boor. Trump was cringeworthy. How completely arrogant of Trump to imagine he could wing it. The "great man" theory he family loves? I don't think so, Mr. Trump. Why would anyone vote for a candidate who doesn't understand the value of knowledge and preparedness? And can't focus for even one complete sentence on one concept? Folks, this is embarrassing for the US. Obviously Trump doesn't even know how how silly and incompetent he is. A guy who goes nuts at 3 am tweeting accusations against a former Miss Universe, repeating his vicious strategy of innuendo and and transferring the problem onto his opponent, simply does not have the right stuff for the presidency. Everyone should watch the recent Frontline program, "The Choice". The young idealistic Clinton combatting racism against black children in the South in her first big job; the young sociopath Trump discriminating against blacks in his first big job. One a person of depth, character and courage; the other a narcissistic bully who learned corruption and sleaze from the cradle.
276
Real changes, corrections, improvements, etc. only are for real if there is a sudden acceleration in statistics. That indeed is happening. Hillary is showing her solid professional knowledge and maturity and her emotional stability. She will continue to move upward. Trump is suddenly falling apart, judging by his uncontrollable anger of irrelevant things, his demonstrated exhaustion during last week's debate, etc. He is in shock, he has lost it.
89
"The other interpretation is that the race is stable but that the polls are volatile..." Dr Sam Wang, who masterminds the estimable Princeton Election Consortium, has been very definitive that this is indeed the case. In his post titled "The incredibly stable 2016 campaign", he says flatly that "Despite all the venom and extremeness, actual voter sentiment [this cycle] is more stable than it’s ever been." And he has the data and the math to amply demonstrate that.
Events like the debates do not, in my opinion, do anything to change people's minds: they merely act (rather like tea leaves) as a medium allowing the voter to crystallize his or her already subconsciously made decision. (And watch those supposed third-party votes: as election day approaches, they'll disappear like dry ice in the Sahara.)

American Presidential elections have become a bizarre game show. So called "undecided voters" are rounded up by news organizations for debate watching sessions in order to utter incomprehensible things like "I was a Sanders supporter and now I plan to vote for Trump"
The differences between Clinton and Trump are vast. Behind the two candidates are the Parties who would enact their agenda and their ideologies are well known. And then there are the fringe third party candidates, who have zero representation in the Congress and zero chance of being elected but could decide the election.
There has to be a better way. The stakes are huge, planetary in fact. Trump promises to disrupt international trade, threatens to discount US debt, question the NATO alliance, cozy up to Putin, enact ruinous tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and pull the US out of the Paris climate accords.
Its time to re-evaluate the Electoral College system, which neuters voters in about 40 states, in favor a few "battleground states" that are characterized by their failures to meet the needs of their residents.

It's the electoral college that will save us from the populist trump supporters. Exactly what it is intended to do.

Sanders voters who say they are voting for Trump are liars.
They never voted for Sanders- ideologically it makes zero sense.
It is a canard that prejudiced white people tell others to pretend that their voting for Trump isn't racist but rather about economics.

So your position is that if we're losing, we need to change the rules?
1
The polls are likely to reflect a solid shift because the tone and substance of the election narrative has changed, and it does not favor Donald Trump. In the past few weeks, large portions of the Republican voters, and Independents, were giving Trump the benefit of the doubt --that he could, somehow, be a good choice based on his non-traditional background. Ah, that yearning for change!
Those voters were willing to ignore Trump's lack of plans, his facile ideology, and his lack of commitment to Republican principles --because he could win. Yet, his debate performance has resulted in ridicule and it has rolled from then on down to the undeniable gutter --from his temperament to not paying taxes being smart, the guy is burning fast and is everybody's laughingstock. The narrative has changed into what kind of monster he is --and the media will be attracted and repelled by the sheer monstrosity of having Trump as a candidate and what that means to America (and the Republican Party). That Trump is now muddled in sex tapes and fat shaming eroded his last cover. It's clear the emperor has no clothes, that he is as fat and ugly as any of his worst enemies, and that he is no winning material. Voters, above all --and especially Republicans-- abhor losers.

I don't think it's a sound idea to base one's decision on who's less physically attractive or chicly wardrobed.
If you like trillion dollar deficits, higher taxes, and Stalinesque intrigue, Hillary is your best bet.

There's little or no doubt that Donald Trump has shot himself in both feet with the African-American andLatino communities as a result of his performance in last Monday's debate.
And after insulting half of the U.S. electorate, he's not doing too well with Women, Muslims, and a host of other groups he's seen fit to denigrate.
That Trump has gotten a pass on many things, including the most recent disclosure of his use of The Trump Foundtion and Organization as his his own personal bank, is basically the reason why his bluster and boasts have remained in the glare of the media spotlight.
And those low-information FOX News types who believe his hype, will continue to vote for him -- Jusy like political those malcontents who overlook the fact that even Bernie Sanders is out there with Clinton, because he knows that Trump is incapable of doing anything progressive.
It's time for Americans to wake up, and get the whole picture about Donald Trump -- who like the circus act that he is, will jump through any hoop to get the brass ring.
Just remember the price of the ticket should he get it.

Don't fool yourself. Clinton is disliked by a lot of Blacks and will not get nearly the turnout of Black and Latinos that President Obama got.

1
Clinton drew an enthusiastic turnout in Fort Pierce, Florida today, the line snaking through the town's tiny downtown. Of course Trump had done as well, or better, a bit north on Tuesday.
13
Crowds mean nothing. The overwhelming majority of voters have no intention of going to a rally. That anyone thinks that visual means something astounds me.
4
Why do we need three debates, plus the veeps? Won't one or two tell us what we need to know? What is it supposed to be, best two out of three falls? The debate is to a real analysis of the positions what the listicle is to a substantive news article. Just as Hillary has said Trump's tweet-centric volatility shouldn't be anywhere near the nuclear button, all the debate proves is who's quicker with a quip, not who's more focused in a time of crisis. Rather than someone who's fast on his feet, a president should be thoughtful and give a measured response, not trigger-happy and fond of "Second Amendment solutions."
18
One thing clear. Though Clinton's lead as varied by a few points, she has always led. Trump has never led.
131
The shame here is that the leaders of the Republican Party are behind this man.

Have you analyzed the embarrassment factor? I think the greatest risk is that polls are undercounting Trump support because voters are embarrassed to say to pollsters that they intend to vote for Trump but when they are lone in the voting booth they will do just that.
20
You can say the same about Clintons supporters. I suspect that there will be more silent people voting for her than for him. Brash people are prone to support Trump while quiet people are prone to support Hillary. This will be confirmed if the vote count in November beats the polls.
13
And the opposite could be true.
The polls could also be under counting the Hillary vote.
When many GOP voters are alone in the voting booth, don't count on them voting for Trump.

4
There are many factors. Like the one where women are secretly voting for Clinton and don't want to tell their Trump-loving husbands/boyfriends. Another is that so many of the Republican elite and various media that tilt that way have endorsed Clinton. I have NEVER in my 36 years of voting seen that. That is why the polls don't necessarily mean anything. I just don't believe the election is as close as they say.
3
I watched the debate as I have almost every presidential debate since the 1950s. I didn't think either candidate did well and I feel the press is heavily inflating Hillary's performance I think that there is noise in the polls and that she didn't get the lift they suggest. It is amazing that the race is so close and I'm appalled that she is not far out in front of him. She's a far better candidate than he.
17
Please tell us a bit about the presidential debates in the 1950s.
4
Why wouldn't her poll numbers improve ?
After the initial barrage of interruptions\bullying by Donald, she eviscerated him on the issues as well as the facts.
It's not rocket science. She prepared and he did not.

She prepared for 25 years. He decided last year that he'd be great as President, and wouldn't have to work very hard to get there. And he spent Monday evening blowviating on topics he knows nothing about to a woman who knows more than he ever will.
Every working woman in America knew exactly what was going on.

She *can* prepare; he can't. He can't focus long enough. See Tony Schwartz, who wrote "The Art of the Deal."

Donald's response to Clinton's noting that he didn't pay any federal taxes in the 2 years that were public 'That makes me smart" indicates a complete lack of understanding of what it means to be a citizen of this country. How does he think the poor slobs who are fighting and dying in America's wars are protecting him and his family's freedom and wealth...on ether and smoke? How does he think the schools, roads and highways, hospitals, R&D, bridges, mass transit, healthcare, taking care of the poor and less fortunate among us gets paid for? He should visit the gilded grave of another captain of industry...Leona Helmsley who blared "taxes are for little people".

The most-watched debate in decades. Viewers stuck with it until the end.
If, based on what I saw, a sizable percentage are still planning to vote for Trump? In that case we have a very serious problem on our hands no matter who wins. Today we've been shown, once again, just how deranged he is. We need to offer "Resident" Trump asylum.

But wait, wait, wait...
I just put a poll up on my Twitter account asking people if they prefer crooked lying Hillary who murdered Vince Foster over a proven entrepreneur and businessman who tells it like it is and will make America great again.
It was 97% for Mr. Trump and 3% for lying crooked Hillary.
This just proves that all these polls that show different results are controlled and manipulated by lying crooked Hillary.
I'll be tweeting a lot more about that at 3:00 am tomorrow.

It only takes the right questions in a poll to sway large numbers of people.
Particularly when CFXK asks untrue diatribes as pretending to be questions.
I am confident that election day will end the farce of DT running for anything
that is not fixed.
The X in CFXK's handle is the clue - just X him out of your thinking !

I see you're repeating ridiculous lies about Hillary Clinton, and you're blinded to the total lunacy of Donald Trump.

It isn't enough that HRC wins by a little. She's got to win by a lot. Otherwise watch Trump or a smarter-but-still-deplorable version of him run again in 2020. White male rage over having to share power and prestige is real. These people will find another outlet and/or overrun the Republican primaries again unless they are decisively defeated.
84
While I would rather she won by a landslide as well, I'm not so sure it matters anymore. I believe this election will be the worst of it. In another four years, more conservative whites will have passed and another generation of the young who are leaning liberal and more open-minded will be eligible to vote.
I believe after this election we will reach the tipping point.
I believe after this election we will reach the tipping point.
48
But the older the white males become, the smaller percentage they are of the electorate. May they fade away! As the famous poem says: "Round the decay of the colossal wreck, boundless and bare. the lone and level sands stretched far away."

Just because you wish for something does not in fact make it a reality. Why is Secretary Clinton barely beating Trump in these polls? In some battleground states Secretary Clinton is behind Trump. This should be setting off alarms for those in the Clinton camp. Many of her supporters refuse to believe that Donald Trump could defeat Hillary Clinton. I make it a point to watch online Every Clinton and Trump rally and Town hall. Trump's crowds are enormous and enthusiastic. When he pulls into the airport there are crowds of people waiting and waving simply wanting to catch a glimpse. With Secretary Clinton not so much. She is having trouble drawing a crowd. If she brings along a popular surrogate like Michele Obama she gets a crowd, on her own however there appears to be a struggle. I find it difficult to believe that those thousands of people who stood in line for hours to see and hear Trump will now trudge off to the polls on election day and make the reasonable choice and vote for Secretary Clinton. That notion defies logic. The "legitimate" media outlets hate Donald Trump and they have thrown everything at him but the kitchen sink. If he still manages to win after facing all these Herculean obstacles he will then posses an almost unprecedented mandate to govern as he sees fit.
20
Crowd size is a notoriously bad indicator of electoral support. JFK famously remarked that he got the biggest crowds and fewest votes in Ohio. (Nixon carried Ohio, 53% to 47%.
Some good history, here,

The largest rallies in US political history were in 1972, for Senator George McGovern. Mondale pulled 150,000 a week before the election. Humphrey had 200,000 the day before the election. Trump's crowds mirror the size of Sanders' crowds. How'd they all turn out?
People also stand around and watch fires.

Omg. And I'm an atheist.

Wow. I just can't say it enough. Those of us who live in NYC just can't believe the biggest fraud ever is this close to the Presidency. I think he will lose, but it is too close for comfort.
VOTE! Please.
VOTE! Please.
409
I live in NYC and will vote for Hillary but Rudy Giuliani also lives in NYC, doesn't he? So there is no "those of us who live in NYC".
When your say "the biggest fraud ever", which of the candidates are you referring to? Cheeto Jesus or the one who's party committed election fraud on her behalf?
They're both pretty horrible. You need to be more specific please.

We must not forget that there are 2 more debates scheduled where Clinton can show her temperamental and intellectual superiority to Trump.
Trump could, of course, cancel the next 2 debates, but then a lot of people will be saying he's scared of "girls".
Not good for Trump either way.

I hope she bumps up with each debate!
44
In the Next debate maybe Hilary should invite a certain former miss universe. Have her sit next to Bill and see if Donald takes the bate in his reaction on stage.
OK to obvious. Still, mentioning people The Donald hates seems to be his biggest weakness. Particularly ladies.

Glad to see on the New York Times polls that the Democrats are also gaining in the Senate.
114
Excited about Hillary. I'm with her!
89
What's genuinely astounding is that this is even a contest. I understand that there are conservative extremists who would sooner vote for Kim Jung On than for Hillary or any other Democrat. Otherwise you've got to wonder just how many racists and lunatics there are out there in the electorate. If the words "decency" and "dignity" mean anything to you there's no way you'd even consider voting for Trump. Hate Hillary? Vote for Gary Johnson. Trump is what you find on your shoe once you've strolled though a cow pasture.
106
It's that damned 'basket of deplorables' Trump keeps carrying around with him.
2
So you're voting in favor of election fraud then?
Lawyers for the DNC have admitted they committed electoral fraud. It’s the basis of their defense to the lawsuit we filed against them. Electoral fraud is a felony. It is treason. Why is no one being arrested? Why is the entire primary not being decertified? Why are you allowing this America? If nothing is done, completely meaningless rigged elections will become the status quo in all future elections. This former Democrat of 26 years (now Green) will not be voting out of fear in November.

My belief is that being on the same stage works to Hilary's advantage. During the Republican primary debates, Trump had the advantage of not being the most extreme while also having the more establishment candidates battling among themselves. So he could play the knock-out strategy very effectively. But being alone on stage with Hillary his many defects and eccentricities are accentuated. Also, his antics and name calling have grown stale while his lack of command of important issues, facts and policies has become more glaring , especially so in comparison to Hillary. All the attention he draws made the debate highly watched, another backfire on his strategy since many of those viewers were potential voters who were yet to decide on there preference. It would have been better for Trump if the debate had been scheduled at an awkward, low viewer time period, like some of the Clinton Sander's debates. And since he has drawn a lot of attention to the outcome of the first debate by his denials, continued attention to the beauty queen issue, and other meltdown behaviors, he is guaranteeing that the second debate will also draw a high number of viewers. The town hall format might even offer more off-the-rails opportunities for Trump than for Hillary, since she actually knows how to answer questions with facts and substance.

Trump has a very bad strategy because he surrounded himself with naive, respectable thus boring advisers lately, nice people with standard mindsets, from loosing camps:
1) His new campaign manager Kellyane, asked him to try to go mild and classy, and to respond to all questions as asked. She has no experience with debates and is clueless about the cutthroat attacks he was going to face EVEN if he did indeed play nice and call Clinton Madam Secretary. She naively expected that if Trump plays nice, Clinton will reciprocate, but Clinton is a big shark!
2) Trump's new press officer used to work for Jeb Bush and all his campaign talking points started to be boring and sound like all the Republicans we didn't like.
Practically, Trump sang on someone else's tune and tried to be liked, he acted like someone who had something to loose, so when he saw that his nice act didn't pay off, he got upset and botched the second half of the debate.
He should have a clear strategy of messages to get across for each issue, one liner rebuttals, and a well argued line of attack. He should have been prepared for the worst: rigged debate, rigged moderator, attacks and interruptions only on him.
Hillary Clinton is the Al Capone of American politics, a smooth criminal with an army of lawyers, two presidents who advise her and a media and all the government branches in her tank!
Trump supporters will be very disappointed if he plays to loose like the honorable Sanders.

Such a low blow by those evil Clintons --rigging the system by letting Trump talk.
45
I want some of what you're smoking!
And, by the way, Trump's calling Hillary 'Madame Secretary' wasn't meant to be nice -- it was a snarky attack on the fact that she is a politician, not a billionaire businessman who sends his factories overseas and doesn't contribute so much as a dollar to our common treasury .

How to look good in a debate? Rule One: make sure the moderator is biased. Rule Two: Make sure your opponent gets a defective mic. Rule Three: Have crazy people make scandalous post-debate claims about drugs...
13
The ploy of throwing something at the bigoted clown so that he goes off a cliff is sheer genius. At the convention it was the story of Humayun Khan, at the debate it was Alicia Machado. With two more debates left, I hope he is given something else to bite at. The buffoon cannot seem to resist a taunt. In the meantime, keep bringing up his "I am smart because I paid no income taxes". Play it over and over again. I love nothing more than to see this misogynist and racist buffoon trounced at the polls. He should get clobbered in the polls and his supporters shown up to be nothing more than a bunch of misguided white nationalists.
328
What taunts?
She earned it. It's a good preview of how she will operate as President--preparation, forbearance, persistence and humor.
As for Trump's preview--well, I sure wouldn't go to the movie based on what we saw of HIM that night. He's like Bernie Madoff and Archie Bunker rolled into one. Not the kind of guy you'd want at Thanksgiving dinner, much less for four years on your television screen.

TN - I never thought of that, having to watch President Trump on TV for years. I can't imagine the content of the State of the Union addresses, the speeches when disaster threatens.....
22
Hey, don't knock Archie Bunker. In the end he'd
have voted the way Edith told him to.
have voted the way Edith told him to.

As long as Trump keeps tweeting and hating (and as long as the Washington Post keeps doing the job that all journalists should have been doing all along), Mrs. Clinton will prevail. Trump's "advisors" must be trying to figure out how to slip some Xanax into his water so he stops talking. What a vile human being.
522
Ditto on The Post. Real journalism.
42
Let's not slight the NYT and all its done here. To the NYT's credit, for example, it was the first of the MSM to finally and prominently call out Trump for his lies in its lead Sept. 17 under the headline: "Donald Trump Clung to ‘Birther’ Lie for Years, and Still Isn’t Apologetic."

We have the Republicans TrumpTrain against the Democrats best, most qualified. I think we should give it more time.
24
So, did Trump's debate bump lead to Clinton's post-debate bump? (Just kidding, it was Adderall, I'm sure).
16
I am pleased the polls put Ms Clinton in the lead, but also dismayed that Mr Trump is even that close
535
I'm not an expert, but Trump has been down and out at least six times before, I won't believe it until Nov. 8 . . .
78
I'm still not confident she will win.
Hillary significantly impressed me with her stolid firm and admirable debate skills last Monday night. I had expected her to be timid, but she was remarkably strong and able, having accomplished the feat of showing the nation just how unqualified and impulsive Trump is.
Hillary once alluded to a "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy". Yes, of course there is as an inherent fact of political activity. All politics is conspiratorial and I think she knows that now.
To conspire is to network with others to garner success or power.
The Republicans substantially proved it.
I'm pleased to learn the variability of the polling still means the mean or average remains constant at about a 5 percent lead for Clinton, but I anticipate a flurry of Television support for Trump very near the election that could affect last minute decisions. Never underestimate the power of the Television industry. You will watch TV tonight, I'm sure. Do you see?

You expected her to be TIMID? Why? Why on earth would you expect that. She was a Senator and then Secretary of State, traveling around the world, representing the US. What about someone holding those jobs would make you think they'd be timid?
62
I think the TV industry wants him to win because he brings home the bacon! 84 million watching the Donald in Bedlam!
12
Patrick, there is a vast right-wing conspiracy. The TImes prints stories about it frequently, especially in the past couple of months. The mistake people may make is to think there is one organization behind it. No, there are many organizations and many individuals. Many of them coordinate to a degree but they don't always act in concert. Prominent members of the conspiracy are the Kochs (of course), Richard Mellon Scaife, Grover Norquist, several Texas billionaires (such as the one who invented Swiftboating), the American Legislative Exchange Council, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. They have their ideological appendages, the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, the Manhattan Institute, and many others. They don't all have exactly the same objectives, but they fundamentally agree on lowering taxes on the very, very rich (people and companies), destroying the power of unions, and steering U.S. domestic policy to support their goals. None of this is secret; it is simply not noticed except, occasionally, piecemeal.
39
The debates cemented the fact that Ms. Hillary Rodham Clinton is the person to lead America during this difficult time nationally and internationally because she is the most socially conscious, knowledgeable, courageous, intelligent candidate to ever run to be President of the United States. Many people I know got off the fence and came to that realization during and after the debate.
SHE gets my vote and I hope America votes overwhelmingly for the first woman to have the courage and ability to win and lead!
SHE gets my vote and I hope America votes overwhelmingly for the first woman to have the courage and ability to win and lead!
364
nglea, you could also have mentioned her phenomenal stamina. It was first widely recognized, I believe, during the Benghazi hearings, and now we saw it again. And getting up strong and hearty from pneumonia in only three days is another sign of it.
47
Good news about Clinton is good news for the country. Even some Republicans must agree.
297
We have the Republicans worst against the Democrats best, most qualified. I think we should give it more time.
14
He's not their worst. There were 11 other worse candidates competing against him in the Republican primary. Maybe Christie was better. Maybe.
I seem to remember him being the Republicans best out of like 23 of them? Last one out of the clown car.
