Nice guy.
The Mets should make some roster changes. David Wright, Lucas Duda, a couple others could be improved upon. Can a manager who says he "loves" his players so much that they can overrule him from doing his job contribute to some tough personnel decisions this winter? It's up to the GM. I think he should be getting big credit this year, Collins not so much. I want to see considerable wheeling and dealing this winter while these players, like Murphy, command top value. Don't trade any starting pitchers of course. Remember the Nolan Ryan disaster. For everyday players and bullpen... Go young.

Well, Murphy is already a free agent--the Mets won't get anything for him.
Duda I agree with you. Wright is not movable, with his huge contract.
As for Collins: yes, there were some questionable decisions throughout the series, including the 9th inning of the last game. But I think he did enough to stick around for another couple of years.

Great job this year mister Collins! There's no way that club is going to the post season without you. I watched all season as you mixed and matched and REALLY MANAGED this club as opposed to just going through the motions. I also read several times that your boundless energy (arriving at the clubhouse at 5:30am during spring training) was a positive indication of your dedication and leadership. During the regular season you made some gutsy moves and when you played a hunch, more times than not, it paid off. I enjoyed the season and look forward to your steady hand at the helm for the next two years. Now go out and shore up your infield D and long relief, teach these guys to bunt, acquire some speed and take em' to the series again. Go Mets.

Good public relations from the Mets. Collins did a pretty good job in handeling the "kiddie" Mets to a 1/2 baseball championship. Mr. Collins used to be a tough guy but noe he is just a baby sitter. If Joe Giradi were the manager of the Mets there would be no conversation of a player not obeying his order to be taken out of the most important in baseball. Collins waited all these years for his "shot" and a pitcher on his team disobeyed him. Unheard of, As Leo Durocher so aptly put it "nice guys finish last". It's only baseball but you can't let the players run the team.

He did his best with a flawed Mets offense and a bullpen that was distinctly thin at the back end, with the exception of the closer. The Mets proved themselves inept in the field during the World Series. What's a manager going to do?
Collins earned this. Congratulations!

Thank you for a snort and a laugh Socrates!
Players win games couches, managers guide and direct teams. Not to take anything from Terry Collins, nice man, but that last minute infusion of hitting carried the Mets through. Now that this is over lets see what happens next.
He would not have been my choice as manager, and he did far better than I expected, but I do not think that the Mets organization did not give Willie Randolph more of a chance to succeed. Be that as it may, he does indeed deserve an extension of his contract.
Terry transformed himself from a hothead during his manager stints in LA and Houston into a players' manager that got him into hot water when he let the seaman (Harvey) run the ship. No big deal. The Mets weren't winning this series anyway. But he is the guy to take them to the promised land, with 5 aces in his pocket. Now all they have to do is insert a big bopper into that 4th hole to replace Cespedes, whose chances of remaining a Met are slim and none, given the fact he was as horrible in the series as he was fantastic during their regular season run to the pennant.

Terry Collins is a great baseball man.
I hope he fires his Assistant Manager Matt Harvey and becomes a World Series champion in the process.

Really? Matt Harvey was a beast in Game 5, and was right to ask for the ball to try and finish the job. Collins was right to give it to him. We were watching a potentially historic performance. If Harvey had not asked for the ball, or if Collins had not acceded to the request, people would have complained about that too. The Mets lost the World Series because of too many mistakes, and in that game in particular, because of a misplay by both David Wright and Lucas Duda.

Terry managed the team through some very difficult seasons in the Mets organization. Through it all he maintained his focus on player development while fully supporting general management and ownership. Terry is clearly a team player in the best sense of the phrase.
In the first year that Terry was provided the tools to make a serious run at the Division title (with late July acquisitions), he guided the team to the Division title and 2 playoff series wins against strong Dodgers and Cubs teams on the way to the National League penant.
The Mets played very competitively in the World Series against a very talented Royals team (who were battle hardened after losing in the 7th game of the WS last year).
Young players, players with injuries, new acquisition players and veteran players alike were all coached and managed in a consistent manner such that whenever asked, they invariably commented on how wonderful it was to play with such a great group of teammates. Supportive team chemistry was very evident on the field, in the dugout and in the clubhouse.
Thank you Terry for all that you have done for the Mets organization, including your time with the Mets minor league teams where you helped develop many of the players we root for at Citifield today.
Your contract extension is well deserved. See you in the spring.

Perhaps the Wilpons will get a shortstop, a second baseman, a first baseman, retire poor David Wright and some grown up leadership in the locker room, a bull pen that can close a game. Get rid of Clippard, Neise, Reed. Get rid of Murphy, Duda and start loading up on some offense. The Mets have too many pitchers but not enough defense and offense to be a force yearly. This year was fun, until it wasn't.

Kudos to Terry. He was roundly criticized for some game 5 decisions but he got them to the World Series against the odds. He maintained an upbeat mood on the squad and the guys played hard for him. I am glad that I will get to see him for a couple more years.

I thought Mike Harvey was managing the Mets...

No crosstown love, it seems. Not news. Collins managed 2 distinctly different teams this year before and after the trade deadline, and got the most out of both as he has done every year he's been here. The mistake of giving in to Harvey will pay great dividends with playets in the future: he demonstrates trust in his guys. He should be Manager of the Year, as should Girardi for different reasons.

sour grapes...
Steven - No sour grapes at all. I was having some fun with my comment. I am for the Yankees, but wished the Mets well in the Series. I believe Terry Collins made a poor decision based on what he considered at the moment to be good reasons and gave in to pressure from the crowd and Mike Harvey. He took the high road in owning that decision so good for him. Mike Harvey should look inside himself and consider his egotism and resolve to be a better team member.
Well deserved. During the NLCS, one of the broadcasters (I think Ron Darling), noted that even during the awful seasons the Mets had from 2010 to 2014, Collins never lost the clubhouse. Players want to play for him. Maintain and develop the talent, and the Mets will continue to succeed. The ball's in your court, Messieurs Wilpon.
