Wow, what a brave guy Varitek was in 2004. He wears a helmet, mask, glove and vest to his 'fight'. And Red Sox fans revere him for his machismo. Go figure.

Play ball!
Boston fans just like to boo. I will never understand how they could boo Garciaparra when he played against them from LAD. He was an amazing player. We Yankee fans always cheer our heroes even when they've left us, from Reggie to Cone to Pettit, etc. And Varitek was a thug who attacked Rodriguez solely to give his teammates something to rally around. It worked. Just like steroids do.

As a life long Yankee fan I only wish I could be at Fenway to boo this phony lustily.
To Saux fans: show no mercy.

A-Roid has no place in Baseball, let alone Fenway Park.

Why this fraud, detested individual is deserving 2 columns in 3 days by Kepner and Waldstein?
What exactly is the point both of you are trying to prove here?
If you really have that uncontrolled urge to write, how about writing about the Royals and Astros great start of the season?

Yankees fans hate the Red Sox and Red Sox fans hate the Yankees.
But hating the Yankees is a bigger deal in Boston than hating the Red Sox is in NYC. Because as cities go, NYC is the big leagues and Boston, for all its charms, is Triple-A. Sorry but that's the way it is.

As long there are Yankee fans still booing Rodriguez, I'd say what's the point. Sox fans don't dislike Rodriguez as much as they dislike the Yankees and their fans. I'd love it if the Sox signed Rodriguez next year at a bargain rate.
Every he hit he got against the Yankees would spell sweet revenge.

Um, he's still under contract, for two more years. He's go a full no trade clause. Only way the Sox get him at a bargain rate is if the Yankee$ waive him. And the Sox have plenty of hitting. Can he pitch?. .

Somebody ought to tell the Bosox fans it's just a game! There's lots of room for passion, rooting, cheering and booing in FUN.
Would they have hated him had he joined their team instead of the Yankees?
Like most baseball fans I have never had much love for A-Rod.
But he deserves repect for how he played most of his career. And so do Bonds, and Clemens, and McGuire and others.
I wonder how empty the Hall of Fame would be if any player who ever used any psychoactive or bodybuilding substance were denied admission since its inception.
Androgenic steroids and the precursor substances constitute only a small fraction of substances players have secretly or openly used to enhance perfomance--especially before testing/screening was instituted and before the use of PEDs was banned by MLB. Even supplements obtained at "health food" and "nutrition" stores that contain ephedrine or the like, high doses of caffeine etc. To paraphrase that self-righteous know-it-all Mad Dog: any baseball fan "worth his salt" should get off their high horse and give Alex a break.

re: Ron Clark
There is always people so clueless that make comments about the "small" effects that come from drug use among professional athletes.
Maybe Mr. Clark ought to have a talk with Don Hooton whose high school age son died from steroid abuse and in his grief created the Taylor Hooton Foundation to teach young athletes not to follow the examples of selfish and nihilist professional athletes like Alex Rodriquez.

A-Rod paid his debt and is entitled to play. The fans paid for admission and can boo or cheer. But do not confuse this with the issue of what these players have done to baseball. Even Cooperstown asks fans how these cheaters' statistics should be preserved and portrayed in the future. I will never forget or forgive McGuire for his arrogant self-promotion after breaking Roger Maris's record in front of the Maris family.
And I don't recall other players resembling Bibb the Michelin man!

Such celebration of the cheater's progress towards a career home run mark built in part upon years of cheating. Is a great first-month batting average and slugging percentage really all it takes, New York Times?

He's hitting .232 after striking out 4 times yesterday and hitting into a game ending DP in the 13th. Hardly a great month.

Boston fans write homophobic slurs on their own faces, and then wear women's masks at the game? I wonder what Freud would say.

Precisely.
