Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson revive the sit-com genre with this bright and exciting show. With a couple of disappointing exceptions (ex: a scene with the son "learning" how to be a man by catcalling girls under the prideful gaze of the father and grandfather), "black-ish" is consistently smart and funny even when it pushes and presses the audience to think while laughing. When there is no message, it's just as funny. It's just plain funny.

Black-ish makes us laugh. Yes, it's sometimes goofy, but so are we. Maybe it is similar to old TV comedies, but they were funny, satirical, and often found humor in real life situations. The writers are amazing ahd the actors deliver the lines perfectly. Once viewers stopped questioning what the title meant and watched it, we were hooked. Hope the series is renewed.

Great show. Deserves a renewal. My granddaughter loves to do her take on Tracee's lines and my grandson reminds me of Junior. All the actors are so talented.

Finally someone speaks the truth about Spanx and other 21st Century contraptions to harness women! Here's to freedom and Ms. Ross' courage to speak it!

While it's great that the subject matter of Blackish is being treated in a network comedy, the show is unfortunately waaay too broad, ham fisted, and ultimately uninteresting. It's set in the real world with people dealing with real world problems, but that's the beginning and end of its connection to the real complexities of life.
the actors in blackish are fabulous, the writing is good, and although sometimes the narration skews cheesy, this is network TV. I hope it sticks around for a long time! go Tracy!

I did not know that Diana Ross was/is her mother. Live and learn. A lotta talent in that family
My hope is Ms. Ellis won't do another interview with this person again. Stormy hair?????

When I come back in my next life, I want to look just like Tracee. She's beautiful, my idea of the perfect woman.
And I love Blackish. The kids are adorable.

Please renew for another season. We discuss this TV show in my class and I would hate to speak about it in the past tense.

If any TV executives happen to be perusing these comments, I'd like to pitch my support for a second season of "blackish", not only is this show well-written, well-acted, and hilarious, it's also socially relevant by reintroducing the concept of an educated, upper middle-class Black family to the small screen...and Ms. Ross is a hoot!!!

love this show and have enjoyed Ms. Ellis-Ross's work since I first watched "Girlfriends"

I second the call for renewing the show. I don't watch too many sitcoms, but I heard some TV critics saying black-ish was good when it premiered so I checked it out (and now catch every episode).
The characters are enjoyable, the actors are very good and funny, and the writing always has me laughing. Laurence Fishburne's wisecracking performance as Pops is a bonus.
ABC should renew this! (if they don't, I wouldn't be surprised if another network snapped it up).

Tracee Ellis Ross is smart, funny and gorgeous - loved seeing this snippet and would love to see a longer article about her growing up with a famous mom and making it in Hollywood. Black-ish deserves a second season - would love to see more of TER!

Never saw Girlfriends, but Tracee Ellis Ross is one of the best things about blackish. Sometimes the writing is just so goofy and the situations so anodyne, I feel like it's some 1955 show that time travelled. Other times the show is sharply honed into satire or even farce and I am excited for its prospects.

What, no questions about Girlfriends! That show was really realistic about the ebb and flow of friendships, having same-sex friends and sometimes having to break up with them or even seek therapy. They also acknowledged the existence of money. It was like bizarro world Friends.

Well of course you don't like spanx....you don't need it!
Love Tracee Ellis Ross, she seems like a genuine and down-to-earth person in spite of being raised in the frenzy and glamour of Hollywood. Kudos to her family.

She wasn't,t brought up in Hollywood, for record. She attended one of the finest schools in the US--Riverdale Country School in the Riverdale section of The Bronx. Her mother gave a wonderful speech to her graduating class.

Just wanted to say....I have loved your work since I first saw you on "Girlfriends". You rock and I hope to see more of you on TV, movies, wherever.

black-ish deserves a second season and tracee is a huge reason why.

I just love Tracee Ellis Ross! Great interview. I'd love to read a longer one.

Same here! I am such a fan.

Love her. I still think she should have won an Emmy for her acting in the final episode of Season 6 of Girlfriends where the whole "It Girl" thing crashes down around her. I haven't given up hope for a Girlfriends reunion movie (or TV movie) - I miss Joan, Maya, Lynn, Toni and William.
