Anyone find it ironic that the the house in the Great State of Texas (tm), so beloved of "Cut taxes on the wealthy" Republicans, has the highest property taxes, while the house in much maligned Connecticut has the lowest?

@Jeff Suzuki You're kind of comparing apples and oranges. The Texas house is almost 1000 sq. ft. bigger. Galveston is a city, and Lyme is not particularly close to any major city.

I adore that Galveston house but honestly y'all..... hurricanes.

That Galveston home is just a beautiful period home for that price but is that reflective of coastal pricing being effected by climate change? Seems a very nice price, surprisingly so. Nicely done Oregon property too...peaceful inside and out. Very temping.

@Name The price more likely reflects the fact that climate change is not impacting prices. BTW, have you priced houses on the Jersey shore or the NC outer banks or the Florida coast or anywhere on the shores of the Pacific? They continue to group not down.

That soaking tub in the TX house is divine! But overall I'd choose the Eugene house; clean, modern lines, sufficient space, desirable location. And really, the right price.

wow! lovely interiors and homes, with lots of natural light and really affordable. However, after a daily commute to work that includes MANY MANY flights of stairs to ride the trains and subways, I am done with stairs. My next house, empty nester house, will need to be 1 story.
thank you NYT for a peak into the homes.

I have looked at the Connecticut house on Realtor.com. It's really lovely. Prone to flooding? I almost wouldn't care.

@B. Hi B, So glad you like our Hadlyme home! Whalebone Cove is tidal and gets to a higher level with the Spring snow melt but no flooding. The former owner, who lived there 33 years, said the water never reached the bottom of the deck. The house sits up from the barn and the cellar has always been dry as a bone.

That Oregon home speaks to me. Gorgeously, modern in an forest.

The setting in Lyme, CT looks fantastic. You would find me on the deck overlooking the cove.

@DeMe Hi DeMe, So glad you like our Hadlyme home! Sitting on the deck overlooking the cove is one of our favorite places as well!!
