Who are these so-called caregivers? Probably the same sort of people, lacking any modicum of self-control, capable of abusing their own children.
Perhaps they have their troubles; no doubt. Earning a low salary, with its attendant anxiety and frustration, if that's the excuse, however, is no excuse for savagery, whether on the job or at home.
On the other end of the spectrum: Jessye Norman's death at age 74 is a sad loss for the music world and for New York City, whose Metropolitan Opera stage was graced by Ms. Norman's glorious powerhouse of a voice and elegant presence.
We human beings are a complicated lot.

Every time I hear about this, it brings to my mind the fabulous old-style Disney World ride Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, which stayed a standout for so many Florida Disneygoers, such wild effects done without computers, even as the attractions all around it got more technologically complex. Then, suddenly, the magical old style ride was gone - and it feels like when we look at special effects that were done beautifully in the 1960s and even 1950s, when no one had even thought up the concept CGI (computer-generated imagery) in the arts yet.
