Somewhat reminds me of some folks I knew while I was in my early 20’s. Not NYC, but photographing the same under-belly, if you will, of certain places.

Thank you as always for your excellent articles and for covering stories about the art produced by people from marginalized communities. I often assign your articles to my art history students.

Stories like this always remind me that for all the acceptance and rights’ protections lgbt(...) people have gained, and still have yet to gain, I truly miss the deliciously transgressive and underground aspects that used to define gay life.

@Sam Francisco Ditto that... we had our own paradigm to fit into, and it was fun and ancient and secret agent... those piers in other places were Roman ruins, sprawling city parks, suburban woods, and perhaps the funnest bar scene in history...What we've gained is to be the awkward newcomers to marriage and a society we were always suspicious of and betrayed by over and over.
