New Milford, N.J.: A Quiet Community Tucked Into a Busy Area

Commuting to NYC from New Milford NJ is a nightmare- don’t let this article fool you. I’ve been been commuting to the city for over 25 years from different areas of Hudson & Bergen county - the last 7 from New Milford and they have been the worst. NJTRANSIT bus schedule is a joke. They are never on time or don’t show up and it takes at least 90 minutes to get to Port Authority not 50 minutes as stated in this article. It’s gotten so bad that I left my City job and got a job in NJ, the pay cut is worth the additional time with my family and no more aggravation. I was spending a total of almost 4 hours a-day commuting.

I grew up in New Milford and loved it. As a real estate agent in the area, I always recommend it to clients, especially those who commute to the city.

Been here for over 20 years. What I like about NM the best is that its very safe and the Police in town do a great job. You can literally walk your dog at any time of the night and not have to worry about anything except a few deer running around in the neighborhood. My kids all went to through the school system and did well. Considering whats around us (towns), NM is still a good value and a good place to raise a family. Best of all, you can be in NYC in about 20 mins on a good day and area shopping (Malls) in about 10 mins. Its the quality of life that people appreciate here.

New Milford is a nice town. But you have to like Cap Cods, split levels or bi-levels. There's not a whole lot of colonials (in the affordable price range i.e.). And if you're commuting to NYC, you'll almost certainly need a car, as very little of the town is within walking distance of a bus or train station

$19k in annual taxes for a $765k house!?

@AW It's unclear from your comment whether you think that;s high or low

Welcome to NJ....

@ED DOC Me thinks you're looking for approval and rationalizing your move to CA. I too moved to CA from NJ 20 years ago and am thinking of returning. How about that!
ED DOC (NorCal)
I’m sorry, but I found the photos of downtown and, even more so, the residential area incredibly dull and depressing. Kind of like a photo essay of why I left NJ for California!
Julian (Maywood, NJ)
@ED DOC, what's so great about California? High taxes, celebrities, and paparazzi everywhere. It's fun to visit. But I wouldn't want to live there.
Isaac (NY)
@ED DOC Then you know there are a few hundred more suburban towns in New Jersey, and hundreds more in the region if this borough isn't up to your high standards.
Laidback (Philadelphia)
@Julian ED DOC lists NorCal as his location. Not the realm of "celebrities, and paparazzi everywhere"
