Congrats!

Do you really believe that James Beard Foundation is a national arbiter of good taste? I am doubtful of the efforts of well-meaning food reviewers and critics to inlunce the tastes of the nation of hamburger-with-ketchup eaters.

@Tuvw Xyz Hi there. I don't think they are trying to be an arbiter of 'good taste' - or if that's their (un)intended mission. Or that they're trying to fancy-up the habits of average Americans
From what I've read and seen, they are trying to shine their spotlight on people/organizations/chefs that are doing good [through the lens of food]. Sometimes that means providing exceptional service... sometimes it means having an outstanding design... sometimes it means being a humanitarian (like Jose Andres) that helps needy people - and inspires others to do the same.

This is good. It helps shine a brighter lamp on the increasing number of amazing restaurants that are enriching their communities in cities and towns large and small.
As to the recent changes - I love seeing that more diverse chefs are being recognized. I love seeing that chefs - be they male or female - are being celebrated equally. Good job to the James Beard folks. Watching the awards is an emotional roller coaster!
As an amateur at-home cook, I closely follow the chefs and restaurants that are nominated by James Beard, and try and experience their restaurants whenever possible - especially when I get to travel.
I love discovering the fancy new places as much as the classic restaurants that have been there for decades. And really appreciate that this organization not only celebrates greatness inside the kitchen and dining room, but also what the individuals do in their communities.
