I often think about moving back east as I miss it. We would get a good price for our house and could afford something in this range. However, the taxes are like a 2nd mortgage and would make it completely out of reach.

Why doesn’t the NYT do a story on the outrageous taxes being paid on these homes. How about a story of our senior citizens that built these homes and got taxed out. We really need a new metro section to key in on issues killing New Yorkers and high property and school taxes are two issues to begin with.

@Mick Funny thing though, the houses sell. And I believe all the communities represented here have excellent schools, the primary driver of suburban real estate values/taxes. There are plenty of lower cost options in the NY area and of course you are free to re-locate to a place you deem more affordable. Try Kansas. (Bring back the SALT deduction!)

There is no escaping taxes here in NY. And no, the school districts that these house are in, are not top notch. Do your homework before telling me to move.

@Mick $24,235 a year in property taxes alone. Mind-blowing.
