Anything government run is a disaster especially in New York the answer is not to throw money at a problem with no oversight. See the future for gov run health care

@EAH First of all, this is a non profit, not a government agency. As a health care provider, I deal every day with private and government insurance companies. I'll take the government run ones any day. They pay me quickly and fairly, and I don't deal with ridiculous denials designed to increase private profits. The only private company I dealt with that was better than anyone was small. It was eaten up last year by one of the huge companies, and now I'm dealing with all the delays, denials, and frustrating calls with 2 hour hold times. Anything government run is not a disaster, despite a certain segment of the population repeating that line over and over again. Do you believe our military is a disaster? How about local law enforcement? Is your trash regularly picked up? Ever needed assistance while traveling internationally? Are you aware of the life saving research that goes on at the National Institute of Health? Do you rely on weather forecasts? Take subways?Visit national parks that are clean and well preserved? Are your roads plowed during snowstorms? The list goes on...

The culture of child protection has totally changed in 23 years. There's truly a presumption that dysfunctional families can and should remain together. CWOP's goals have been internalized by ACS. So, misspending aside, the group has succeeded and us no longer necessary.

@Janet
I'm not so sure that's true, Janet. I represent parents accused of abuse or neglect by ACS in the Bronx and our clients still face an incredibly high rate of so-called "emergency" removals of their children from their care. I also think that to call families involved in the child welfare system 'dysfunctional' ignores the racist and classist violence perpetrated by the system. Most parents that we defend are court involved because they are black, brown, and/or poor, not because they are dysfunctional.
