How lovely that this author wrote a book about a trans girl of color that doesn't get hurt. I am torn about the gloomy narrative about trans women of color. On the one hand, it is entirely clear that they bear the brunt of the bigotry and violence that trans people suffer. On the other hand, I am afraid that more kids of color will be fearful about living into their true identities and will decide to live in the shadows. Not all trans kids have a difficult life. I see trans kids every day who are socially successful, mentally fit and academically strong. Mainly, they come from loving families, live in tolerant communities and are from financially stable backgrounds. Ah, privilege.
