The Epstein Investigation, Now That He’s Dead

If Barr had really been interested in protecting Epstein, he could have sent one of his guys to Manhattan to check out the facility before putting Epstein in there and by having a look at some of their old videotapes from a month or two ago. He could still do that now, just for the fun of it. My guess is Friday is pizza and beer night, Saturday is open cell door day. And wild sex and drug parties are so common that mostly the guards sleep through them.

Why are there jokes about what is going to happen to all of his properties and wealth? This is a very serious thing that should be taken care of and put under investigation. This is a very suspicious act, killing himself in jail? The times is mocking all of us by telling us a short version of a story, the times does not care, no one does. It’s just here to get the people angry about what this country has become.

Not a well-done show, obviously. As a subscriber, I deserve better. So, do others. Here's a suggestion: Wait till you have a story unless you want every show to be nothing but sound bites. I could create a show like this myself.

Epstein seems like he was pretty smart guy. Or at least cunning. I’m hopeful that he has put somewhere safe (or with someone safe) the full list of his co-conspirators. Let’s hope he was (is?) able to outfox the men who want him dead and quiet.

This is the reason that I subscribed to the New York Times. Your investigative skills are needed on this story. Please investigate it fully. It doesn't matter who is involved Republicans, Democrats, Celebrities, Men, Women. It is never ok to rape women. It is never ok to rape girls. It is never ok to rape anyone - boys, men, girls, women. It sickens me that rich, powerful people are trying to cover this up. If you have done the crime, you must do the time.

I will be brief. I smell a rat, maybe, many rats.

This podcast references the trove of documents that were released last week and which contained "potentially explosive" accusations as they're described in the clip. Those accusations are about high profile men in the political and business world. Yet the clip's audio fades as those accusations are about to be mentioned. What is the Times's thinking about not naming those high profile men? They have all denied the accusations. I won't mention them here only because I think that the Times would not publish this comment. The accusations are explosive and for some men hard to believe for me personally. However, their names are out in the public domain and mentioned by many other news outlets. Yet the Times dances around doing so itself. Has the Times or anyone tried interviewing Virginia Giuffre, the woman making these accusations? Has the Times or anyone tried to determine whether these accusations have any credibility?

I am afraid the level of corruption of those in power in our once great country is so much deeper than we could have ever imagined. This "coincidence" surrounding the circumstances of Epstein's death reeks of conspiracy. Where are the honest politicians (if there are any) who will demand that the truth be known regardless of the consequences to those who might be involved. Where is the outrage of the American voters who just look the other way and say "I don't care"??? Well I care and so should all of you. This is not the country I grew up in and I want it back. Let your reps in Washington know they will not have your vote unless they are willing to make that demand and let the chips fall where they may!

Anyone else not able to get today’s episode in the Apple podcast app? Obviously, I was able to listen from within the Times app (and did), but it’s not as convenient.

@Harriet I got it in my iPhone's podcast app. For some reason though it was already tagged as having been recently played. So it didn't show up in the regular feed.

This new approach of using sound bites to tell the story detracts from the podcast. Please, simply present the information without the interruptions.

The Daily is very informative. It helps me and many listeners enormously if there's a transcript to read at the same time I'm listening. May I request Michael Barbaro and others on his team to facilitate such a provision by inserting a clickable (icon) option along with others (on top right). Thanks..

I’m a luddite, can we we a print copy of the broadcast?

Men like Epstein are probably able to conceive of their eventual end by suicide. They live their lives on a path to suicide. But most vainglorious men can not conceive of departing alone. I believe Epstein will be one of those destructive men, who choose to name their cohorts. Someplace locked away, or in someone’s possession is a declaration written by Epstein that will qualify those who traveled his depraved life with him. If we are lucky, the document or film will become public before an army of powerful, rich people, complicit in Epstein’s crimes, and named in whatever document he left, can destroy it.
