Fresh, young Romano beans (Roma) are delicious, even if you don’t particularly like green beans (I don’t). Fresh butter beans are exquisite. October beans? Add them to your list. Finally, fresh blackeyed peas. Good thing we have a large garden. And to think I didn’t like vegetables.

Are they any good without having to chop up a baby sheep?? Seems so unnecessary

Talk about the obvious being mansplained to you. I once told a subway rider that his private parts might need airing but the MTA was the the most perfect choice to do so.

US summer vegetables, even though it is winter Down Under?
Applause!
Patronising comment @Tuvw Xyz. Our country is as large as the US. In the north it is very hot and so we have access to fresh summer vegetables all year round. Also I get local marvellous array of winter vegetables.

Just one problem. Pod peas taste better frozen than "fresh" ones that have been harvested, shipped and then sold. Both taste and nutrients are lost during the time from field to farmers' market

While living in tbe south a few years ago, I was fortunate to find fresh pinto beans....amazing taste!

You are still my hero! This again proves that. Thank you. I cook from your books and from your NYT's recipes. They never fail to satisfy my taste buds and those I feed from your inspiration. Thank you. Today's summer vegetable recipe is excellent.

This is about green beans? I would add that green beans are excellent when fried with bread crumbs on their own in butter, and in an omelette or scrambled eggs, with white mushrooms and green onions.

Not green beans, but beans that have ripened and their pods have been shelled.
