I have just witnessed one of the worst plays of 2019. While the theme was topical, the presentation, direction, and performances were dreadful. Just putting in some Spanish language phrases doesn’t mean you relate to the people who speak the language and live the culture. I am supportive of immigrants who come to this country for a better life. This play did not describe that situation. It was poorly written, directed and overacted. The first half of the play used cheap humor and seemed more like a soap opera. The topic needs to be explored on the stage, and I hope another writer/director will do a better job.

I was very moved by the difficulty in crossing the border illegally and in navigating a clandestine life in America. The Greek tragedy gave the story structure, but the performance of the lead actress gave it wings.

I don’t know which is the worst part of this story, the cultural appropriation, the political correctness, or the lack of creativity.

@Mon Ray Oh. Did you actually see the production?

I saw the production last night at agree with the criticism. The theme was topical but the writing was from a soap opera, heavy handed, poorly executed and trite.
