This is fun to watch. But, I think the greens are too soft; the course is not able to defend itself. I'm hoping the weather shows up in a serious way -- more wind and rain.

@Ralph Good luck wishing for more rain, which would make the greens even softer.

As long as Donald Trump has no interest in the course it will be fine.

Northern Ireland - like the Republic of Ireland - is a beautiful country. Royal Portrush is a proper links course - no trees, acres of deep rough, slim driveways, vicious wind changes, deadly bunkers & nowhere to hide. At least the locals are sociable, knowledgeable and likeable.

Nice place. The Royal and Ancient needs to bring more Irish courses into the British Open cycle.

"Royal Portrush will not have to wait so long for another Open, with a commitment from the R&A organizers to bring two more Opens there by 2040." With the upheaval to all things British that is Brexit, who knows if Northern Ireland will be a part of the United Kingdom in 2040? They might decide to leave the UK to remain a part of the EU and avoid a hard border with the Republic of Ireland...

Organizers have committed to two more tournaments at Portrush by 2040. 2040 is a long ways away. And if Northern Ireland leaves the UK before then?

Best wishes to course & fans. Looks like McIlroy and Tiger will not make the weekend. Also, David Duval shot 91 after getting a 14 on the par 5 Seventh hole. Kentucky’s J. B. Holmes leads after round one shooting 5 under 66.

Gorgeous setting and a challenging course. I am pleased every time Northern Ireland gets a positive boost.
