Include more poetry. Partied out in N.Y. C. was a pleasure. It captured the moments after a party, brief meeting, or an encounter when you can see the person you just met and wonder about them.

"Beer may feel refreshing, but it’s not ideal for hydrating purposes." You wouldn't have guessed that from reports from the folks gathered in the park between buildings between 9th and 10th Avenues on Saturday night. The corner deli, which mysteriously had light and refrigeration, was doing some great beer business and their customers were feeling very quenched - while those of us who were well above ground were in the dark except for our phones, worrying about how they were coping stuck down on the street. (No wonder emails weren't returned that promptly. They were having a Blackout Beer Party.)

Meanwhile, there's an article elsewhere in the Times questioning whether New York and its residents *really* need air-conditioning!

@L My a/c wasn't working and the sweat literally was sluicing down me as I dubiously read that story.

@L more air conditioning means more climate change. If you have an ac keep at at 78 if not higher ... that is totally doable.

With this upcoming heat wave, one can only hope that another "extremely unique" blackout doesn't occur again. And haven't we heard enough about Jeffrey Epstein by now so that we can fill in the rest of the blanks?

@N. Smith As I wrote in response to a similar criticism you made last week, the Jeffrey Epstein story is important. It involves the decades-long sexual assault and trafficking of underage girls, an abuse of the justice system at the highest levels, powerful men able to silence witnesses, a socialite who covered for him, well-connected rich people and celebrities who were happy to socialize with him despite his sex crime conviction, and there's a connection to the president of the United States. The information that emerged at the bail hearing was new. Epstein had a safe full of cash, jewels, and a Saudi Arabian passport in a name not his own. I can assure you that's not the stuff of the typical bail hearing. If for no other reason, people who should read these articles to learn how the other half lives. There are literally hundreds of stories published on the New York Times website every week that you can read instead if you dislike the Epstein stories.
