It’s unfortunate that the writer, in a nowadays inevitable effort to be woke, starts his review with a snarky comment about a TV show he evidently knows little about and perhaps has never seen. For its time—more than 50 years ago—and for network television, Star Trek was groundbreaking in its depiction of an international crew and exploration, albeit allegorical, of social issues. It led to successor shows with a growing diversity of human and alien characters.
Fortunately, I scrolled down and saw photos of the works on exhibit and, finally, the writer’s review of them. I think I’ll make the trip to Queens. The lesson: Don’t hold reviewers’ attempts to be clever and in the moment against the artists whose work is being reviewed.
