Europe Shut These Migrants Out, Then Libyan Rebels Bombed Them

This is absolutely the EU’s fault. Turning desperate migrants away to see them drown or taken hostage by human traffickers when they, Europeans, colonized these countries is an abomination. How can you deny responsibility?

It is sad that these people were killed but it is not Europe’s fault. It is the sovereign right of every nation or bloc to control its borders. A hard stance on illegal immigration can be a lifesaver. Look at how successful the Australian policy has been. There are no drownings of people attempting illegal entry into to Australia, because the traffic has been halted.

@Pelasgus Italy colonized Libya, Ethiopia and Somalia. There is a long history of exploitation. Yes, they carry responsibility for destabilizing these countries just as we destabilized Iraq.

Why should Europe always get the blame for the plight of those migrants? Their own governments should also be scrutinized. I admire the new president of El Salvador who acknowledged the responsibility of his own state in tnis unfortunate situation.

This problem originates in the migrants choosing to go through Libya precisely because it is in disarray due to the civil war and is seen as easier to traverse (and parts of its coast are closer to Europe.) The migrants chose Libya, Europe is closing its borders, so now it seems unfair to insist that all comers be given safe haven when the government cannot overcome the rebels!
