It’s cool that Billy Joel referred to the Palisades in “Miami 2017”:
“And life went on beyond the Palisades
they all bought Cadillacs
And left there long ago”

I have lived here for 15 years, and I love it. Great neighbors and neighborhood "vibe," very close to and convenient commute into NYC, and the property taxes are well priced. I highly recommend it!

@Peter Understandable that you would see it that way if you have only been here for 15 years. Those who have been here longer have seen the changes and it is really a pity. It used to be a good family town with a warm feel, now because of the overbuilding less parking, the police don't monitor the people parking without permits, the schools are overcrowded and building trailers to accommodate. The planning board, real estate and town council/mayor are destroying what is left of this town. There were many stores along Anderson, all it is now is restaurants, cafes and nail salons, very little retail - poof gone broke waiting for the town center to be built - took 12 years + . That's not planning, that's just sad.

I grew up here. Unfortunately, the town is being (has been?) ruined by rampant overdevelopment and lack of zoning laws due to political corruption. The same family, the Calabreses, have held the mayorship since the 1950s and own a real estate and development firm that is rebuilding the town. Small houses with gardens have been replaced by massive duplex townhomes with driveways instead of front lawns. Towering high rises are built next to small single family homes. It is all about the political machine and the money. Most residents don’t seem to care.

@Nancy I grew up here too. And come back here too every week. Political corruption is apparent. It’s an open secret and nobody wants to upset the status quo because then they’ll have a problem with the town for something. It’s much worse in Fort Lee, but at least the same political family hasn’t controlled the town for decades. Same thing in Englewood Cliffs with the Parisi family.
The school system would be great but the burden by the underperforming Fairview district for high school education is what is the overall problem in bringing grade averages down. Wouldn’t recommend but don’t have an alternative for the price.
Nice neighborhood but underperforming public high school most concerning.

A famous CLiffside Park resident, Maysoon Zayid, gives her hometown a shoutout in her ted talk about having Cerebral Palsy -- how they both have the initials CP! Check her out on General Hospital. Her hometown should be proud!

If you live in the town you have to put up with the poor planning where more two families go up where one families existed prior so it's very close quarters at inflated prices and a yard area that's so small with no play area for children. it's a general don't care attitude of the municipal town and council and the ever increasing taxes. People come from other areas to park here for the commute so finding street parking for you or visitors is difficult. It used to be a great neighborhood but the new administration is in league with the family real estate business lends itself to crony relationships with them and construction companies and a general clandestine atmosphere. If you do care about the government you might be better off elsewhere.
