Ms. Largarde has in my view really distinguished herself at the IMF by helping to turn around that organization's historically toxic desire to squeeze the very blood out of countries in financial difficulty. The functions of a central banker are different and I hope she proves as outstanding in her new role.

Lagarde's job title has changed but her job description has not. Her job description remains the same -- defend European banking interests.

Ms Lagarde shares the responsibility for impoverishing Greece unnecessarily in order to protect German banks. No doubt the Greeks will now be erecting a statue of her.

@Soracte The hubris was Greek politicians being talked into borrowing billions with a lot of help by Goldman Sachs, with little ability to pay it back. I say this as a Greek American.

Good news: a highly qualified and capable leader.

@Olympian Please read Yanis Varoufakis memoir. It may change your opinion.

@JM Surely an impartial judge in such matters.

No doubt Ivanka approved after their discussion at the G20.
