This article, a new beginning, is long overdue but most welcome today.
I note instantly that the content of this article exactly matches what 100s, perhaps 1000s, of us comment writers have written in comments whenever an appropriate article appears.
It has been our job to try to inform comment readers that our country lies behind the horrors occurring in the Middle East and Latin America that drive people to become asylum seekers. To that we now add our role in contributing to the climate change that will confront millions with a choice, flee or die.
And our America is hard at work making things even worse, supporting the Saudis in the genocide taking place in Yemen.
Thanks to living in the Sweden, the "western" country taking in more asylum seekers per 100,000 population in 2015 and 2016 than any other, I have had the chance week by week to get to know the stories of people like those described here, people who come to the Red Cross to meet me and my volunteer colleagues, themselves from "somewhere else".
One of the best experiences in my long life.

Thank you for sharing this story, and even more importantly for respectfully acknowledging the responsibility of US foreign policy in the outcomes and the creation of this crisis. It is too often missing from Western media.
