Recently Christiane Amanpour interviewed Christian Picciolini, a young man who'd been a far-right leader. He's had since left the movement, wrote a book about it and works to get young people out of it. He said that there was a concerted drive in recent decades to infiltrate local police departments to carry out the far right's agenda more effectively. Where this is true, it would explain why efforts are lagging to quickly and effectively shut down anti-Semitism and hate crimes .

“When they use terms like open borders, that’s right out of the white supremacist playbook. “
I was listening to KPFA yesterday and open borders were exactly what the program and guests advocated. As well as being anti-Semitic without giving it a thought.
Our inability to actually have a back and forth conversation in this country drives extremists on all sides.
God help us.

Where was all this attention to the rise of white nationalism when within the space of 10 days, 3 Black Churches were burned to the ground in Louisiana -- a story that didn't even make the front pages.
And all this coming at a time when we know this is just prelude to more attacks on ALL Americans?
Time to call it out for what is is -- namely, Domestic Terrorism.

(all these are FBI statistics)
There were 7,600 reported hate crimes in 2016, and 7,100 in 2017. The violent crime rate was 386.3 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2016, and 382 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2017. If Trump emboldens violent white supremacists, why are these types of attacks declining? Please kindly and respectfully inform me.
According to the FBI, in 2016, there were 7,600 reported instances of hate crimes. In 2017, that number dropped to 7,100. In 2016, according to the FBI, violent crime rates were 386.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2017, it dropped to 382 per 100,000 inhabitants. If Donald Trump "emboldened" these people, than why have these attacks decreased. Feel free to kindly and respectfully inform me.
Attacks by White Extremists Are Growing. So Are Their Connections.
And the bigot in the whitehouse, or Mara largo on the golf course, refuses to blame white supremacist, HIS supporters.
“Very fine people”. the bigot declared, after the Charlottesville anti Semitic marches.

The idea that we can expect any correct action by Trump on this topic is profoundly misguided. In the first place he has shown again and again that he is a racist and a race-baiter; in the second he is liar who has almost never been willing to admit his lies. Engaging with him is a mistake. Treat him as he deserves: someone whose utterances are not worthwhile.
But this shouldn't stop us from pointing out that bigots of virtually all stripes have been encouraged by Trump's presence, and we should also press politicians supporting or excusing Trump about this. Just don't waste your time on the man himself.

The example set by the highest office in this nation has become both example and license for hatred and violence, as you have indicated - it is escalating. What is also disconcerting is the religious culture around this president that embraces such violence in its own highly apocalyptic religious views. We are clearly in need of civil leadership that can turn us toward the issues of social justice that builds common vision, reconciliation and peace.
