It feels really unnecessary that Chelsea Manning was dead named in this episode. I really enjoy the daily's coverage but I request that you re-evaluate your editorial choices in the circumstances.

The NY Times, like most media, writes down what the government tells it to report. I remember Jayson Blair too, which was just a red herring to distract from more important issues. WWI and WW2 were specifically planned and brought about to build world government and no escape from tyranny. The establishment did not want any more Harry Elmer Barnes types (like Julian Assange today in some respect) telling the truth about the war. So, a whole world of propaganda has been built about all this. The U.S. is just as guilty as Germany--certainly through our government's Nazi-like medical experiments and MKUltra mind control projects which are only the tip of the iceberg for what they do. (Kate in the Godfather: "But Michael, senators and presidents don't have people killed." Michael Corleone: "Oh, who's being naive Kate?")

We are all charlatans here in this messy world, no? As long as we are left untouched, let them have it...When it comes over to our turf------watch out-----the entire edifice of ethical issues we struggle with throughout our lives simply collapses. Who out there can claim moral virtue?

Re: "The Moral Complexities of Working With Julian Assange." Your well-produced and intelligent program presented on "The Daily" was very illuminating on this important topic. I came away from the podcast more aware of how carefully journalists for The New York Times handled this difficult problem of writing about sensitive and classified information while also taking very seriously the spirit of freedom of the press. I found it helpful that this podcast brought together issues, and relevant people involved in the nine-years-long events which served very well in creating a coherent picture. It was very obvious that the process of working with Mr. Assange was one of delicacy, nuance and, above all, heightened judgement on the part of The New York Times' journalists. Thank you for an enlightening program!

@Cate The United States has no right to have a worldwide military presence. It is costing us trillions of dollars. The southern border wall is a complete distraction, and this arrest of Julian Assange was brought about for its timed purpose as well. Remember George H.W. Bush telling us that Iraq will "not be another Vietnam"? Yeah, it's gone on far longer than Vietnam. We never really leave anywhere, and the average American citizen is paying for it spiritually and materially. Most people are much poorer for all this intervention and certainly less free. All the 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto are in place in America, and across the world. We don't need Joe McCarthy (who was 99.9% right) sniffing out conspiracy. It is all around us in the U.S.S.A. Moral decline doesn't happen this deep and wide unless it is formal policy from the top down and the bottom up.
