It is time there is a close oversight of the Red Cross. They enjoy a lot of autonomy and public support which is okay but we may find the Red Cross operation may not be up to high standards we assume it has and the rules are sometime arbitrary without sound science or logic. About a month ago a Red Cross blood collection mobile unit which seemed like from the middle of the last century was parked in Louisville, KY and had a generator which was along with the mobile unit burning fuel and putting out thick smoke and polluting an otherwise clean environment. while parked. I entered the unit to donate blood and everything with my blood sample and health tested satisfactory and then they passed on an online history questionaire which had travel history based on my history of travel to a certain country they told me that they cannot let me donate blood for a year as long as I do not travel again to the same country until a year from my previous travel. I told them that it is ridiculous because I felt there was no rationale or justification for their discrimatory policy. I think this is just a tip of the iceberg that would make me think twice next time I consider donating money to the Red Cross. We all have an urge to be generous to certain well known organizations like Red Cross and Doctors without Border but I would suggest cautions and due diligence about the charitable organizations.

I hope that all the missing hostages are found alive, preferably in reasonably good health.

This woman is a real heroine and I hope the Red Cross can bring her home to NZ.

I hope the Muslim community in New Zealand will voice their support for her safe return, in gratitude for how the country stood by them after the mosque massacre. It is people like Ms. Akavi make this world liveable. I pray for her safe return.

@Herodotus Hoping I'm not misunderstanding you but your post implies that NZ Muslims have a particular responsibility to voice their support as a show of gratitude to their fellow countrymen and women. NZ stood by its Muslim citizens because they ARE ALL New Zealanders. Praying for Ms Akavi's safe return home.
