Much of the challenges presently facing Afghanistan started with anti-monarchy Afghans using the alien communist political ideology to topple the royal family. Then they turned on each other, and Moscow needed to ensure communism flourished and so militarily invaded the country. Then the U.S. saw the an opportunity to 'bleed the Soviets,' and took full advantage of this by providing material support to anti-communist Afghans, known as the Mujahadeen, or holy warriors. After the Soviets hastily withdrew, the U.S. and USSR abandoned Afghanistan to OBL, foreign fighters, and Pakistan culminating in 9-11. Then the U.S. militarily invaded Afghanistan to punish Afghans for attacking the U.S. Problem was Afghans had nothing to do with 9-11. So, Afghanistan is a casualty of superpower and regional geo-political machinations. Afghans will recover as they have for 1000s of years, but the international community squabbles over its future, as though then own Afghanistan. They are finding out the hard way that Afghans own Afghanistan!
