The gas line explosion in San Francisco should be a warning. Expect more of them, after Diablo Canyon Power Plant is shut down and we only become more dependent on gas.
Californians seem to believe Diablo Canyon will be replaced by renewable energy, that somehow solar + wind + storage + efficiency + demand response etc. will be capable of replacing one source of clean electricity that's always there when we need it. It won't, because it can't.

@BobMeinetz That's true. Thank you for bring that up. Unfortunately I don't think our comments on Ny Times will affect the big decisions being made like this, but maybe if all Californians were made aware of the fact that nuclear power is good, we could reopen Diablo and build more.

The explosion was caused by a contractor’s backhoe rupturing a natural gas pipeline. The associated electric power outage was due to transmission line damage, not anything you described.
Please take the time to be informed instead of seizing on spectacular events to proffer irrelevant opinions.
