‘Glass’: 5 Things That Left Us Scratching Our Heads

1) "Staple keeps saying she has only 'a few days', though she never indicates why." -- There is something called a "psychiatric hold" where someone arrested is evaluated up to 72 hours, this was Ellie's cover. The specific hospital wing had special cells and the water tank, and (while implausible) was understaffed to minimize witnesses to their abilities. 2) Deliberate misdirection by Elijah to manipulate David and Ellie Staple. Comic nerds in a store later say: "The mastermind always has a 'real plan'. 3) I wasn't happy with the way David died. Unfortunately his time in the water tank weakened David to where he couldn't get free. The thug chose to kill him that way because Ellie could spin a cover story to any investigators or media. 4) My only answer is Stockholm Syndrome (look it up), and perhaps because Casey thought she could help "Kevin" due to his similar past of abuse from his mother. 5) Elijah's plan was to inspire others who might have superpowers and criminally expose Ellie and her Clover faction. "And videos capturing police abuse, sad to say, rarely create lasting change." Elijah knew that the footage would also be seen by local, state and federal authorities, judges and jury. Kevin killed while unarmed (Casey an inch from the bullet's path), Elijah denied medical attention, and the footage of David's murder being the most damning. Kevin and Elijah were killers, but the laws on use of deadly force, homicide, conspiracy, negligence still apply.

1. It is not understaffed. You can clearly see security details throughout the building when David and Kevin arrive. There were always two orderlies working at a time. Why need more for only 3 people? One of which, I might point out, they believed to be heavily sedated; they would not need to supervise him. There were orderlies for the other patients I'm sure; the three main protagonists were not the only patients comprising the facility. To conclude, there were many other orderlies, it is just that only a few were required for Kevin, Elijah, and David because, obviously, you do not need many for 3 people. 2. Elijah was never truly planning on this; he only said this to lure out David by threatening a terrorist attack there. He also said this as to not raise suspicion of his true plans. And obviously, that worked, as Dr. Staple did not give another thought to the event because she believed she had ultimately succeeded in preventing them from reaching the tower. This was also designed so that the audience would believe that Elijah's plan had failed, making the final twist/reveal more mind-blowing. 3. The movie is designed off the premise on superheroes existing in the real world. That is why there was not huge final showdown; it's supposed to be realistic. And as for how he was drowned by the weaker man, that question is jut dumb. Obviously if you inhale water and nearly drown as David did, you are going to be weak for a while. 4. She understood his pain and wanted to help him

Seriously awful, poorly plotted movie. Two of the three main characters are mass killers that we're suppose to have sympathy for?! The idea that there is a shadow government that is watching over these heroes is both unbelievable and silly. Per the usual, save for sixth sense, I'm left not caring, the long, pointless, director cameo and the long "bravura" McAvoy death scene, put the cherry on top.

I really liked “Split” in large part because of James Mcavoy’s wonderful performance. I thought “Glass” was ok but the storyline was sloppy and disappointing in a didn’t dot all its i’s and cross all its t’s kind of way. For instance, Mcavoy and Willis immediately being taken to a mental hospital at the direction of a psychiatrist was beyond ridiculous and flies in the face of due process rights. Ironically, Paulson’s character later advises Willis’ character’s son that his father’s vigilante activities disregarded due process. Equally insulting to the viewer’s intelligence is that the hospital could conduct surgery on Samuel Jackson’s character without consent. Ugh!!! As said in this article and the other comments, there were other disconnects and head scratchers. I expect to suspend disbelief with this movie genre but not to the level this movie requires.

I agree that there were some odd plotholes, like the drowning of Dunn in a small puddle. However, i understand somewhat of Casey's sympathy for Kevin, as she has seen his multiple personalities. She knows that the original "Kevin" is still there somewhere even though other personalities have taken over. In "Glass", we (and Casey) actually see a little bit more of the original "Kevin" personality than in "Split". I had the feeling that what Mr. Glass was trying to do wasn't just to broadcast the videos and establish faith in superheroes, but also to be a catalyst for other superheroes to emerge. He mentions in one of his last lines that this was an "origin story". I had interpreted that as a hint that Casey, Joseph Dunn and perhaps also Mrs. Price would emerge as superheroes of some sort in a sequel.

@luckydice88"I had interpreted that as a hint that Casey, Joseph Dunn and perhaps also Mrs. Price would emerge as superheroes of some sort in a sequel." That is how I saw it as well. Maybe a franchise of characters similar to X-Men that gives M.Night something easy to continue and make boockue bucks. Especially with that weird organization or agency.. I mean this could be just like X-Men.

I waited 18 years for a sequel to Unbreakable-one of my all time favourite movies. Waited and waited... for at least one more movie about how Michael Dunn develops in his role as ‘superhero’. So much more could have been done with that plot line, alone. 18 years pass and Bruce Willis is 18 years older. Loved the Split movie! Another main character waiting to be developed. Finally, the day arrives! And my hero dies in a puddle. I should sue for cruel and unusual treatment. It’s almost as if M Night Shymalan just didn’t want to deal with these characters anymore. So much potential- lost. I want to cry :(

@Deedubs I agree— more of his crime fighting would have been great. Disappointing end for a great character. The son will take over if there is another movie.
Tisa (California)
@Deedubs I feel the same way.

And what was that final scene in the train station about...prelude to a sequel?
Scott (Canada)
@JONWINDY Dont forget - the three people waiting to see what happens. The father of a hero, the mother of a mass murderer who called him "extraordinary" and the girl who comforted the serial killer. Wow - and were supposed to feel what about them?

Yes, drowning Dunn certainly spoiled the ending for me. Are we to believe that his son just stood by and watched?
Matt Canon (Houston)
@Merlin Balke "Are we to believe that his son just stood by and watched?" No, because that's not what happened at all. In the scene before David gets drowned, two of Ellie's SWAT disguised grunts stop Joseph from approaching and escort him away from the scene. Only after David was dead was he allowed to approach, where the grunt was performing CPR (so they could later claim they 'found David' facedown in the puddle and 'tried to revive him'). They didn't need Joseph being a credible eyewitness in court or an investigation; and certainly didn't need him interfering in any way that might allow David to recover and regain the advantage.

This movie was beyond ridiculous. (SPOILERS) Crumb is a wanted killer and kidnapper of women and he's put in a low security situation like that? And none of his intelligent personalities never figure out that all they have to do is cover their eyes to escape? And this secret society that's been around for years just can't rent a private conference room in a hotel but meet in a public restaurant while they wait for non members to eat and leave!? That final shot of the three survivors with the uplifting music includes the mother of a mass murderer and the supportive victim of a abusive psychopath and we're supposed to feel good that the world now shares their secret? I loved Unbreakable but 19 years later Shyamalan couldn't think of anything for David Dunn but have him go after You Tube assaulters and for Mr.Glass to sit around the asylum. What a lack of imagination. Oh and the movie featured absolutely the worst old age makeup in any movie in the last 20 years.
Dlove (Boynton )
@arodriguez oh my God I absolutely agree with everything that you said. It just absolutely made no sense he ruined it!

After reading all the reviews and youtube comments, I'll just buy a bottle of head and shoulders shampoo. Thanks for YOUR thoughts.
Waitress (B)
...why was Casey the only one who could stop the beast? Couldn’t anyone tell out his full name???
Lee Harding (Australia)
@Lynn Clark Hair shampoo comes in bottles in the U.S.? We get it in plastic containers...
