Is there anything about democracy and modernity that the colonizing countries shared with the countries they dominated?

Several African countries are calling for a recount of the votes. A recount supervised by African countries or the UN could be a solution to the present situation, which may erupt into violence.

Trump is now probably looking at Kabila as a role model. Once a Dem defeats him in 2020, Trump will try to keep living in the White House while the victor can dorm in Blair House. Or Mar A Lago.

Many U.S. allies (like Saudi Arabia) are run by murderous dictators. Many U.S. allies (like Turkey) are run by dictators who are presidents in name only. Other countries, like Russia, with which Trump is trying to ally the United States, are run by dictators who are presidents in same only. The dictator of China, Xi, is called China's "president" by the NY Times. Why does the DRC get special scrutiny? Because they are weak and relatively unimportant?

This ongoing catastrophe is only made possible by the international interests that prop up Kabila's corruption and the various militias that perpetuate conflict. How? Through corrupt deals with the government to access minerals such as cobalt and coltan; through helping transfer profits to offshore accounts so that they aren't taxed and can't enrich the common Congolese people; through enabling illegal trafficking of raw minerals into Rwanda and Uganda to hide their true origins and avoid complying with the Dodd-Frank Act; through land and resource grabs, especially from the indigenous Batwa people; and through arms trafficking for profit.
