What if You Could Literally Talk to The New York Times?

I like it when I can hear the reporter read her report and not me because I'm using my word emphasis, my word meaning and getting subtle emotional signals, because the person reading adds a sort of third dimension to what the writer is trying to communicate and not what you think it means.

Not interested. I read, in part because it's a much faster way to assimilate information. I can read at 250+ words a minute, but the average speaker is in the 150 words a minute rate. That's a big difference in my morning...

I second @Jonathan's comment. Alexa has already been shown to be entirely too intrusive in people's lives for those (few? Age-determined?) who still care about our privacy. Sure, use Alexa if you must, but don't limit your interactive voice content to Google-related devices.

Interesting. If NYT pursues this, please don't limit content/functionality to smart speakers, which I and others have chosen not to bring into our lives. You could use the NYT app as a channel for this sort of content, perhaps enabling an audio-only version to work with CarPlay and the Android equivalent.

I would like a little more information than the Daily gives me. I listen in the mornings while getting dressed and would really like a quick summary of what happened the day before plus anything new overnight. AND PLEASE could we have it 7 days a week?? I do not die on Friday night and wake up on Monday morning!!

The world has become so divided and not just politically. As I won't have anything to do with Amazon seeing this is "Alexa-only" is a turn-off. OTOH, I'll bet there are just as many people that shun Google. Let's throw FB into the conversation to get readers riled up :-). Rather sad although I admit to being more part of the problem than a solution.

Alexa, tell the Times I don't care about Hillary's emails. They should cover what a colossal tool Trump is. Before the election. Alexa, tell the Times their crossword puzzles are too hard. I'm way not that smart. Alexa, tell the Times that push audio is SO 2010 and this is 2019. Alexa, tell the Times I never bought an Alexa and don't see it happening. I hate talking to machines. I hate machines that talk. Nokay, Google, not you either... Alexa, does this make me old?

@Dejah Alexa, tell the Times their crossword puzzles references are way too obscure.

The article doesn't tell me what to ask Alexa to do in order to listen to this content. So I guess I'll have to ask her.

Well I don't use Alexa but everything Apple. It would be nice to ask questions like "Let me know the vote on Brexit after it happens". Some others "What happened with Donald Trump today, the short version", "are there any new recipes today", etc. Also the morning news. Your initiative is still what you think I should hear and not what I have an interest in.

I don't have an Alexa (Amazon knows too much about me already), but as described, this service leaves me underwhelmed. You publishing a quiz and me answering the questions is not "talking to the Times." When I can say "Hey, Alexa, tell the Times to stop picking on Bernie" and be heard in any meaningful way, then I'll be impressed.
