"They don't like me but they can't touch me." I know that cops are professionals and must be held to a higher standard than civilians. But if I had to deal with the same aggressive petty criminals every day, put up with their taunting, and find myself physically threatened, it would be hard for me not to react. Sometimes when I'm on the train and a guy lunges through the car cursing, you know, the usual, I wonder how I could flatten him were he to aim his lunge at me. A habit of musing acquired in the late 1970s. I know, I am not supposed to feel this way.

“An image circulated online purporting to be a bathtub selfie of the new congresswoman…” Some Congress stories just make you proud to be an American! This one almost makes your hand clutch your heart. :) Tune of “America the Beautiful” For dutiful, tenacious guys Who help us to explain The urban legend travesties That energize our brain Ephemera, ephemera Debunking can be sweet. But - time’s always good In this cyber-hood To tweet two viral feet

I hope I’m not losing the Mayor’s point, but the part about “adding muscle” brought to mind that I’m not sure the deviation from his 3-hour workout schedule is a great idea. Thinking decades back, Mayor Bill seems very similar to that bad boyfriend you just can’t make yourself say goodbye to, so you kind of hope he moves on from you: He steals money off your dresser when he thinks you don’t notice; avoids any question he doesn’t want to answer by making it your issue that you even want to know; very openly flirts with guys who might be a better catch than you - but your friends who really know you, but don’t really know him, can’t believe this guy actually is considering devoting his life to you and that makes you feel great! Look at that screen with all the countries; he promises you the world, and you so want to believe him. (Sounds in a way like every other episode of “Sex and the City.”) (Isn’t the normal Brooklyn Y schedule 9 to 12?)

“In 2017, he didn’t have a written speech — just bullet-point notes.” Any word on whether the bullet points were numbered? (Maybe folks should find out and do the opposite!)

PIZZA WAR How do you end such combat? Lotsa deep red faces. Take the route that's honorable: Pizzas at ten paces.

Mr. de Blasio claims there's plenty of money in the city ("brothers and sisters" -- oh, come on) and it needs to get redistributed. How much money will get taken from middle-class New Yorkers? Because don't for a minute think that those of us who have lived frugally, saved for a rainy day, and are now -- counting the years that remain -- still worrying about having to shell out money to doctors and hospitals, will not bear the brunt of our mayor's socialist tendencies. "Brothers and sisters"? Is he kidding?

deblahsio speech ... zzzzzz worst mayor in the history of civilization and the sign moratorium ... i get it but uhm why do we bother to have any laws in the city at all if we're just going to ignore half of them (marijuana etc), or are laws only applicable depending on one's skin colour??

SALACIOUS DELIVERY I called the number in the book And ordered my evening pizza With plenty of cheese & lots of gook For me and neighbor Teresa. The pie arrived right on the dot And smelled delicious, but A sculpted scene on the cheese was hot-- Somehow I'd called Pizza Smut.
Ken (Staten Island)
Where is that bookseller on Fifth Avenue? I'll never buy anything there, but I'll stop in whenever I'm nearby to ask for a copy of "Lonesome Dove".
Freddie (New York NY)
@Ken - Ha! That brings to mind that great line by Alice Roosevelt which went something like "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit here by me and tell me what's your mind."
Jeffrey Zuckerman (New York)
Here’s a novel policy idea for Mayor DiBlasio: How about a laser like focus on making the city run better? The roads are a mess. Traffic is horrendous. The subways are as filthy and run down as they have been since the 1970s. Surely, there is room for a NYC Mayor to lead on social policy initiatives, but first and foremost, get the basics in place.
AC (New York)
@Jeffrey Zuckerman Yes! He cant even get the basics down correctly (low income housing without heat, the lead paint fiasco etc etc)

I wonder if that vision includes less corruption. Currently the city is being sued for $2M in damages by a de Blasio crony who admitted in the past to trying to bribe the mayor. Why the lawsuit? For claimed loss of business when the city no longer allowed illegal activities after the bribes stopped working. You can't make this stuff up.

My workplace show title - Soul Drain.

@Brendan Sounds like an awful place to work — but I'd watch that show.
