I want to travel all around the world. The first place that I’d travel to would be either California, Italy, Czech Republic, or just about anywhere in Central Europe. My mom was born and raised in Czech Republic and she loves it there. I’ve seen so many beautiful pictures and amazing stories. I also love their culture, food, and language. My grandma makes Czech food all the time and it's amazing and bursting with flavor. Czech Republic has so many unique traditions that I would love to learn more about.

I think one of the places I would like to travel to is the Azores. I have been there previously and I loved it. I would get out of my apartment and I would walk to the beach across the road. Not only was there a conveniently located beach, there was wonderful food. The streets were full with food trucks and it just so happened that we arrived right before a big festival. I was able to watch from my balcony the parade as the streets came alive with culture and celebration.

I'd like to travel Bhutan, the world's happiest country. Its GDP is very low, but people's happiness is on the very top. I am really curious about it. How could a poor country happy???? So I'd like to figure it out by myself.

I would love to travel to Dakar, Senegal. I absolutely love any place by the sea. I am also very interested in surfing, so it caught my eye with the boy surfing as the picture. It also seems a little "out of the box" for a place I would visit, and I love to try new things. Another place I saw was Los Angeles. I have always wanted to go there. It just seems like there is so much to see and so much to do. There is also a beach there. My ideal vacation is a beach with good waves, so I could surf all day. I do not like to go to cold places, so the vacations in the mountains and canada were not for me. However, I do think being a traveler as your job would be amazing. You would get to experience so much of the world, and who knows, maybe I would end up loving the mountains and other places like that.
SENE (Courbevoie, FRANCE)
The country of my dreams for my vacation is Dubai. I have traveled a lot but it is the only destination that is close to my heart for the moment. For the new adventurous and a different culture for me. With the biggest skyscaper, it is impressive and amazing ! The sun also makes me want to go there. I would like to discover also their culinary dish seen that I am greedy.

Sometimes I dream of traveling to Asian countries, because I love the culture, the many kinds of foods, the mind set... Especially in Japan. People are always there for you here especially for foreigners. Her mind are just amazing than others. They are open-mind. I really would like to go soon to discover all of that. I think this a beautiful idea to travel there. And I'd like to go after Japan, in South Korea. I already go with my family in Gyeongju, Jeju Isle, Busan and of course Seoul the capital of South Korea. I prefered Busan just because when the sun sets, everything becomes animated. And the city is more beautiful than Seoul for my opinion and my experience. I have a projet with my little sister to go soon to do Japan and then South Korea. I'm in a hurry to take plane, to take off, and finally to reach the destination for about a month. It's mu energy to move forward in life and in my desires.

One day I hope that I can travel to Tahiti . I have always wanted to go there , it looks just so peaceful and beautiful. The French Polynesia also known as Tahiti is creating a more eco friendly habitat. For example a hotels like the Brandos resort is using coconut oil power plants. They're also are solar panels and an organic garden. It's also home to over 1,000 marine life species. Bora Bora is actually the birthplace for overwater bungalows and consist of 118 islands. The islands there self are just so gorgeous, who wouldn't want to go there. Since i've wanted to go there since I was probably 8 I would love to go swimming with the sharks.

If I were to be given the job of the "52 Places Traveler" my life would be complete. Having the opportunity to experience new places filled with amazing people, cultures, and religions would allow me to not only expand my own mindset, but to also make new memories. Traveling to Puerto Rico and seeing the rebound of it's cities damaged by Hurricane Maria, rather than just reading about it, would encourage a larger sense of gratefulness within me that my home is still safe and standing. Seeing the banks of the Tungabhadra River in Hampi, India would generate within me a greater appreciation for nature's beauty. Being tasked with this job would definitely come with some challenges. Simple luxuries that I am accustomed to have every day, may not be so easy to come by when traveling to 52 places around the world. Having the opportunity to travel all across the globe and experience new things would outweigh any challenges I may face. I would be so grateful if I ever got the chance to have the job as the "52 Places Traveler" for the New York Times, gaining experiences and facing challenges that no other job would provide.
Zoé Q (Courbevoie, France)
One of places that i would like to go : Autralia. I would like to travel in Australia because in my opinion, it's an amazing place. There are animals at once fascinating and frightening. You can have sharks, kangaroos, big spiders, ostriches, snakes, koalas... Very uncommon animals where i live (Paris), so for me it would be very impressing to meet one of them in the wild and not in a zoo. Also you can have on the one hand, the red sand desert, on the other hand, the beautiful ocean, but also the architecture of Sydney, or the nature of Canberra you know. So maybe for me, it would be better to make a road-trip to see the entire continent or at least, the most interresting whose one of the islands around. I am sure that over there, there are so many activities to do, so many things to see, and so many to feel!

If I were to travel to a place on this list, I would honestly travel to Portugal. Portugal seems like a really nice place, I'd love to see the "green lushness" and the hot springs that were mentioned in the article with my own eyes. As much as I love food, checking out the restaurants in Portugal would be very exciting, along with trying all of the foods that they usually serve on a casual afternoon. For me to travel to Portugal I'd also need some requirements fulfilled, like a nice warm place to stay, like a hotel of some sort. After getting everything set up I'd have a nice long schedule of what to do, and where to do, when I'd go there, and what form of transportation I would use. After getting all of this figured out, I would have possibly the best traveling experience ever. Of course, this isn't all guaranteed, since nothing on Earth is everyone's view of being "perfect." To end it all, Portugal seems like an amazing place to travel to, just to visit.

If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Japan. Its my favorite destination in the whole world
Ilyana M (Paris, FRANCE)
I love travelling, it's one of my favourite hobbies. I have the chance to travel all around the world and I think everyone should travel at least once in your life because the world is so wonderful with beaches, mountains, forests. I really want to going in New York City because it's the city of fashion, where you can do everything and i love the buildings, the scyscrapers , the architecture, the streets, everything is beautiful in NY.
Lisa (Paris,France)
The Maldives I want to go to the Maldives because the landscapes are amazing. I already went to the Bahamas but even if the ocean has the same color, I think those islands are the most beautiful things in the world because you can swim with sharks, feed rays, do amazing pictures. Dubaï I want to go to Dubaï, because I have never been to this town and there are so much things to do like go to the desert and do quad, to the Burj Khalifa for see all Dubaï from the top of the tower, do shopping in the mall, walk around on the Marina for see all the yachts... Los Angeles I want to go to Los Angeles because I already been but I was little and I have very good memories. I want to go to the beach, to Melrose street for do shopping and to the city around like Malibu and Hollywood.
Lopes (paris)
I would really like to travel to these different places because they are all beautiful. But the place who i would like the most traveling is Mexico because it is a wonderful place with sea, palmers and tipical houses. Also because i would really like to learn about mexican culture or latina culture in general. For example "El dia de los muertos" with all desguises, decoration, food...I would also like to visit New york for the big building and skyscraper and slovakia for the snow.
antoine Rousseaux (paris)
I would like to travel around the world but if I were to choose among the 52 places I would like travelling in Costalegre in Mexico the place is so beautiful. but also Eilat in IsraËl the place is so beautiful and so natural the water is so the water is totally tranparent, I really want to going in Italy in Golfo Paradiso. I would like to go in USA to visit Santa Barbara,Santa Monica,Los Angeles and New York they places are so mytical and super visited.
the real Adil Rami (Marseille)
I'm a person who likes to travel around the world but if I do choose a destination, it's Japan. I love everything in this place. The architecture (temples, parks...), the hotels and the food. In the pictures, the country looks so beautiful and calm and they are to many festivals and events. I think it must be a great and unforgettable trip but it's more expensive.
Havana C (J.R. Masterman: Philadelphia)
I would really enjoy traveling to these places because traveling is so much fun and getting to see the different cultures in multiple places is so unique and interesting. I would enjoy visiting these places and writing about them because I really enjoy writing about my travels. Some things that would be fun about this job would be being able to experience other cultures and the different ways people live around the world. For example if I were to have this job I would try the food and the different ways they make their foods. I would also like to experience the music they listen too and the types of movies the make, as well as the attractions and parks. Something that would be challenging about this job would be having to rearrange your schedule to be able to do the activities you would want to do and still find time to write about those experiences. Something else that would be difficult would be managing the money used on the trip if the company didn’t pay for it. Another thing would be if you wanted to do an activity that day and the weather would not allow you to do so.
hanna (paris )
If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Bali and tour the entire country.

I'm a person who likes to travel around the world. My future project is to travel to Dubai because I like this town. Dubai is the town of my dreams. I love everything in this city. the architecture, the pictures, the hotels, the desert, the food, watch Dubai from Burj Khalifa, everything is great, everything is beautiful. For me, it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Rahim (Paris, France)
i would like to travel to all of these places i think to see the different ways people live and how things work around the world would be cool.
Na'Dera White (Masterman)
Out of all the 52 places on the list of places I can’t really decide on one. They all sound and look pretty fun and relaxing. But I do think that my ideal travel destination would be someplace calm, and not too hot, but also not too cold. Also somewhere I can also learn about their history and culture but also have fun. I’m not saying that I want to go somewhere and just relax, I would also like to do a few things there that I wouldn’t be able to do at home. Something that I know my mom wouldn’t let me do. I would also want to try the food that they have because when you have lived in one place your whole life you only really eat that places food. Which means that sometimes it’s the same thing over and over again. Now I don’t think that I would be able to learn a whole new language, but I might be able to learn a few words like hi and bye. But, the thing is if I want to learn a new language I am going to have to go somewhere far like France. If you can’t already tell I really, really want to travel somewhere. And I would really love to be the 52 places traveler. I think that the idea of going all around the world would be really fun. The only thing is I would probably keep forgetting to take notes, and I would only take pictures.
Molly Hatfield (Masterman School, Philadelphia, PA)
When I was looking at these places they all looked so amazing. Some specific ones that really stood out to me that I would like to visit are: Munich, Germany; Marseille, France; and Perth, Australia; as well as many others. I would love to go to Europe and Australia. I've never been to any three of these destinations- I've never even been out of the country! One place that did not make the list, that I think should have is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. That may be a little biased (well, maybe a lot), but Philadelphia is a really cool place and has a lot of cool things to do. Philadelphia has a lot of cool public spaces, and also has a lot of interesting museums and theaters. It also has a big role in US history. For me the perfect travel destination is somewhere where I can be a little adventurous, but I can also just relax. I think it would be so cool to go somewhere where I can learn about a new culture, try new foods, and practice another language. I think it would be pretty awesome to have the job as the 52 places traveler. I think one challenge though would be trying to enjoy the place you are at while still making sure you get all the important information about the place.
Kate Chin (Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
Out of all the places, I would most likely want to go to Lyon, France. I have a very sharp culinary interest, as I aspire to become a culinary chef when I get older. France is known for their elegant and flavorful food, and I would like to try it so I can see why they blend well/how they make certain textures. I have been to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Williamsburg, New York City, and Hong Kong. Los Angeles’ bustling Koreatown is very fun to explore and has amazing food/facial products. You never get bored in Las Vegas, there’s always so much you can do. Santa Barbara has an amazing hip food service perfect for foodies. Williamsburg is very historical and pleasing. New York City and Hong Kong display the bustling city life in a fun manner, and has historical sites, food places, and shops to check out. I would definitely recommend Osaka, Japan. Osaka is around everything in Japan- the Weeb Central in Tokyo, the Cup Noodle Factory, and the amazing aquarium. My ideal destination is somewhere that can be adventurous, but also calming as well. I enjoy going to diverse countries and feeling the thrill of learning new cultures. A mix of both bustling city life and beautiful scenery would be the best balance. I would like to have the job as a travel writer. I think it would be fun to visit new places and showing other people what amazing things they have in store. It might be challenging to find specific things for each country, and to make them all sound diverse.
Abdoul Diallo (Julia R. Masterman, Philadelphia)
In all of the beautiful places that the New York Times listed, the place I would like to visit the most has a deeper meaning than just the scenery. I would like to travel to Dakar, in Senegal. This place is very special to me specifically because it is where my parents were born and raised. I would love to see the culture there and try new things that I have never done. The scenery looks very nice so that would be a bonus to why I would want to go there. This is also pretty much my ideal location, a place where I can chill and relax next to a beautiful beach, and also explore the culture and learn new things. It will also be cool to meet new family members I haven't seen before that still live there. That is why I would love to travel to Dakar, Senegal.
Maia Keenan (Masterman, Philadelphia)
Out of the 52 places on this list I think that I would most like to go to Danang, Vietnam. My mom’s family is from there and as it said in the article, it says in the article, it is the “Miami of Vietnam”. There are many great beaches and a lot of amazing food. I have only been to two of the destinations on this list which is Las Vegas and New York City. I only stayed in both of these cities for a few hours. New York is very busy and has a lot of stores and buildings and people walking everywhere. While I’m on vacation, I like having something to do and finding an adventure. Even though I would get to travel the world and see new things, I wouldn’t want to have this job because I think that I would rather be in Philadelphia.
Natalia Bieszczad (Masterman, Philadelphia)
I rarely travel to new places but when I do I love it because I love visiting new places, with different lifestyles. These experiences are lots of fun and I find them to be a great way to escape from real life for even just a moment to relax or have some fun. Personally, I would love to travel to 52 places and then write about them then also get paid. This would seem like the perfect job for me however I could also see how after a while this could get a bit tiring and I could get homesick. Traveling from place to place constantly and not settling back home afterwards can be exhausting. Out of the 52 places to go in 2019 I would want to go to all of them, as I have not visited any although I would most want to visit The Azores in Portugal. This place seems to be a perfect travel spot for me because I love going to the beach and the first thing I see are the beautiful waters so I am automatically drawn to it. The volcanic craters, natural hot springs, and heritage sites in the Azores seem intriguing. Overall, this place looks like a beautiful paradise and I would love visiting these islands in Portugal and traveling as a job would be lots of fun and it could teach me many new things about the incredible world that we are living in.
Megan Moriarty (Danvers, MA)
If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Italy and tour the entire country. My Great Grandparents sailed over to America from Italy, but besides that piece of knowledge, I still feel I only know so much about them. I've read books and watched shows from all different places in Italy spread among various centuries of history. Each time, I learn a new element of Italy's culture and I would love to witness all the country's beauty in person.
Kaya Perelman (Masterman School, Philadelphia)
Traveling has always been a big part of my life, and I travel a lot. I love to travel, and though many people may disagree, I would want to go to all 52 places. Many people would also prefer staying at their house as long as they want, but to be honest, not going outside for longer than a day is not something I would want to do over a break. I have only been to a few of the 52 places, so being able to travel to all of them sounds great, but it would . Most of the places I would want to go are places that are very small towns and have pretty beaches. I don't really like cities because they are too busy and there is a lot of stuff going on. I would rather stay on a calm beach than be in the middle of a big, loud city. I like to travel because I get to learn more about different places and then I am able to recommend them to my friends and family. I would recommend Belize or some other places in Japan because I had an amazing time there when I visited. I also recommend Panama, which is part of the 52 places, but you might not want to go if you don't like hot weather. If you don't like traveling far, camping is also a fun option to consider.
Darlene (Philadelphia,PA)
Out of the 52 places to go in 2019 I think I would go to to The Azores in Portugal. The reason I would like to travel to The Azores is because it is a subtropical volcanic island. It has lakes, steaming natural hot springs . New restaurants in Ponta Delgada include locavore Casa do Abe and Tasquinha Vieira, which specializes in local, cuisine. Also there are two new hotels opening in July. The only place I’ve been to on the list was New York City and I had a nice time there. Although, two things I can’t lookover that are literally the worst things in New York is the crowdedness, which comes with the traffic and that the Subway stations are the hottest places I have ever been. Some countries that didn’t make on the list that people should visit are The Bahamas and Paris. The Bahamas is because the weather there is beautiful along with the water and many resorts with amazing things to like scuba-diving. People should visit Paris because they have amazing French cuisine and a major city that is a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. They have a 19th century cityscape and there are many famous landmarks such as as the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Sometimes it changes, but my ideal destination is a place where I can relax and do things I’ve never done before like go scuba-diving and go on adventures.
Jonnah Berger (Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
Out of the 52 places on the New York Times list of where to go, I would go to the Ice Caverns in Calgary, Canada. Although it might be very cold there, it seems very interesting and fun. I have been to regular caverns before, but with ice, it may be different. Also, I have been to other places in Canada before so it could be very fun. I have been to some of the places on the list of 52 places. For example, I have been to New York City, Puerto Rico, and Houston. In New York city I have gone shopping on Black Friday and went to go see a musical. Also, I went there to see friends and watch the U.S. Open. In Puerto Rico, I visited Old San Juan and went to a nearby beach. The water was really nice. Finally, in Houston, I saw family and went to the space station museum there. I would recommend San Jose, Costa Rica. I have been there a couple of times when I was younger and enjoyed it a lot. There are a lot of things to do. My favorite was ziplining and going to the numerous beaches. Also, many people speak English so if that is the only language you can speak people will adapt to you.
Lucas Awad (Masterman,Philadelphia)
If I could go to any of the places it would be Wyoming. I have been there before. It was an amazing experience. The Tetons are amazing, and the air is so pure. Although I have traveled to many places throughout the U.S, I think that Philly should have made the list. It is a great city and deserves more credit than it receives. It has food and culture and history and great schools.
Henry Scott (J.R Masterman Philadelphia PA)
I have never been very fond of traveling. I would never go to a place just because its asteticly pleasing. Of all the places listed I think New York is the one I want to go to the most. The one place that I think should have been put on the list are the Pocono Mountains. When your there the beutey of the mountians comes as an afterthought because of all the other things your doing. I swam a mile in a lake their once, slept in a structure made entirly out of a tree, and learned how to make fires and wepons. Its fun to have weekends where you are in the outdoor and I love it.
Zephyr Spatz (Philadelphia, @Masterman)
I think that if I could travel anywhere on this list, I would go to the Islands of Tahiti. It seems like a paradise. I rarely go on vacation, though I've been through most of the U.S., and to be honest, I'd rather be in Philly than anywhere else in the world, but these islands seem like a great place to travel. I can't imagine how great it would be to take a trip to such a place, especially if I was being paid to do it. Being so far away from a large country would be kind of strange, but also peaceful in a way. If I was going to leave home for a while, Tahiti would be the place to go.
Ereena Lalu (J.R. Masterman School,Philadelphia)
I would probably wan to go to Tahiti, because it seems like a very relaxing, and beautiful place to be in. In school, I get pretty stressed out and hardly have any time for myself without having to hear "Go study!" from my parents two minutes later. Overall, the island seems pretty awesome. I would recommend going to Kerala, India, because unlike North India, most of what you see is a bunch of green jungles, birds, rivers, and basically nature all around. Despite that, you can go to cities such as Kochi and Trivandaram, which are major cities in the state. The food is amazing, though it doesn't taste like Indian food that you can get in the store. My ideal travel destination is where you can relax as of now, as stated above, and I would love to got to a different country. I would go to the suburbs because I feel like you can act like you've lived there before. I would love to be a 52 places traveler, because I want to visit new countries, and experience new cultures.
Reza Chity-Guevara (Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
I would like to travel to Munich. The reason is that I have never really been anywhere in Europe and I think Germany would be a nice place to visit. Specifically, Munich is because from what I read and saw it has amazing architecture. The image shown is of a lovely opera house, with a great domed ceiling. I would like to see such things, the reason for that is because I like the way structures are built particularly those from the past. The reason is that they provide a sense of what humanity could do at a time less developed then the present time of now. It shows you the beauty of humanity, through achievments, and also through magnificent structures that tower over you with many lights, statues and images. Now, in reference to whether or not I would like the job of going around to these places and writing about it is probably a no because I do not really see myself and some sort of amazing write so even if I could see amazing places I probably couldn't communicate the feeling of seeing these places through writing.
Ahsaan M. (Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
Out of all 52 places on the list, I would like to visit The Azores in Portugal. The Azores seems like a natural island that provides some of natures, most enjoyable features such as swimming. I am a person who loves to travel and I really enjoy new experiences. I've been to two of the places on that list, and they were New York City and Los Angeles. New York City was great because I got to walk around, visit some of my family members, I've even seen three plays on Broadway. Los Angeles was cool was because I got to go swimming, I went to the beach, and I even went to an Angels game. My ideal vacation consists of food, amusement parks, swimming, and wildlife. If I had the opportunity to get paid to travel, to different places around the world and write about my experiences, that would be great. Sure you could get jet lagged a lot and miss out on spending time with your family, but you're getting paid to do a hobby, it's like a dream come true.
Justin Time Liu ( in Philly)
I would like to travel to Eilat because I like animals and in Eilat I can dive into the Red sea and see many sea creatures. But I since I'm not rich, New York would be the place that I would most likely go since it's the cheapest option even though I've only been there a few times. I like envirments that have many animals that you can see. Or a country with very different cultures and traditions then me since it's great to learn about their culture. But in reality, I'd probably go to New York since that is the closest and cheaper than all of the other options.
Abibat Lateef (Julia R. Masterman)
All the 52 places listed sound like fascinating and wonderful places to go and discover a world you never knew of. Although I would love to visit any of the places on this list, I am most intrigued in visiting Eilat, Israel. This sounds like an enticing place to go and enjoy nature and the Earth’s beautiful wonders. This place is a paradise and ocean wonderland. With great cuisine and lots of new experiences, who wouldn’t go to this luxurious fantasy world. Out of the 52 places listed, I have only been to New York. New York is a beautiful city with many things to do and see, and I hope to visit again soon. Being a 52 places traveler sounds like a dream job. Not only am I going to places completely new to me, but I’m having unforgettable experiences. This job would be slightly challenging because you’re moving around so many times. You’ve also never been to most of these places, so you’re unfamiliar with the people and their culture. This is also the best part of it because you’re getting to know new cultures. It does sound like a tiring job to travel to so many places and write about it, but with good pay, it’s not bad at all. What really matters is what you discover and experience on the wonderful journey.
Amalia T. (Philadelphia, PA)
I want to go to Panama; Eilat, Israel; Paparoa Track, New Zealand; Tatra Mountains, Slovakia; Calgary, Canada; Falkland Islands; Gambia; Wyoming. The places that I want to go to all have one major factor. That is that they all are surrounded by nature and possibly animals. I have been to Las Vegas; New York; Wyoming; Los Angeles. Las Vegas was a very good portal to the National Parks in the Southwest. New York was too loud and too crowded for me. Wyoming has Yellowstone which is amazing and I hope to go back again. In Los Angeles, I went to Disneyland when I was really young and I don’t really remember it. My ideal vacation spot is somewhere where I can just go outside and spend a few hours watching animals. One place that I really recommend visiting is the Galapagos. I really enjoyed my time there as I really appreciate wildlife and the drastic adaptations some creatures have to make in order to survive. This is a great destination for animal and nature lovers but one should only go if they are going to understand the great ecological pressure this place is under and respect the strict rules of the Galapagos that have been put in place to protect both the humans and the non-human animals who have adapted to call this place home.
Maya Kowal (Masterman School, Philadelphia, PA)
Where Do You Want to Travel? Part 1 - Of the 52 places named by The New York Times, I would want to go to Costalegre the most. I think this is because I really love tropical weather and beaches, and I feel like it’s the perfect place that has all of that. I have been to Munich, Germany, and it’s very beautiful there. In the article, it talked about how Munich was known for opera and things like it, but I honestly think it should be known for the fabulous German food that they serve. I can’t wait to go back. - I would recommend Venice, Italy. It is “the city drowning in water.” And it really is, but it’s beautiful. All sorts of shops with good quality but low prices, little alleyways, the best gelato, old churches, monuments, and possibly anything a tourist would want to see. People should visit Venice because of their glass making. I saw men molding vases out of hot glass right in front of my eyes! That’s a pretty big tourist attraction. - My ideal vacation is a relaxing vacation. I like to be at the beach and not have to worry about anything. However, I love exploring and trying adventurous things, so I think I would like to relax most of the time but then try something out of this world (skydiving, etc). I would like to go to the Caribbean. I do like visiting cities and how modern some of them have become, so I think Costalegre is perfect for that.
Liam S. (Masterman, Philadelphia)
I think out of all of the places on the list, I would want to visit Japan. I just think it would be an interesting trip, especially since one of my aunts live there so they could be our own guide. The pictures i’ve seen from there are just gorgeous, especially the one in The New York Times article. I know it’s sound a little cliche but the culture there is amazing. The nature and building are beautiful and of course there is the food, which is great. I just think it would be a great experience.
Mahjeah Haile-Jenkins (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
My ideal kind of travel destination where be a place where I can relax, learn about different cultural things in that area and enjoy nature. I would pick this due to my curiosity. One of my main goals is to travel around the world and visit every continent. I know this goal will take some time, but why not start planning where should I go first and why am I going there. My ideal destination would be Honolulu, Hawaii. I say this due to Honolulu being so beautiful and the beaches there are amazing, but I just want to go to learn a new language and taste their cultural foods. Some of their cultural foods are Hawaiian Plate, All Natural Shaved Ice, Strawberry Mochi. Loco Moco and Manapua. Another additional thing to add is that visiting places around the world sees me that there are more beautiful things other than life itself.
Aryan Patel (Philadelphia, PA Masterman)
After reading the list, I decided that I would like to go to Northern Rivers in Australia. I say this because it looks like such a relaxing place. That's the kind of traveler I am. I like to go to places where I can spend time with my family and enjoy the scenery. Now don't get me wrong, I do love to do thrilling activities but my main goal is to relax. I also chose this place because Australia is a place I've always wanted to go to. The picture looks like a place where a family can enjoy their time together. I am not a big traveler and I like to stay at home or stay close to home. I occasionally like to go to different places but it is just not something I can get used to. I usually enjoy most of the trip except the part getting there. The wait is just so long! I chose Australia because it is a new place and I would like to experience what it feels like to live there and I would love to try their food. One place that should be on this list is Can Cun, Mexico. It is a beautiful place and has lots of activities for those who love to explore. The food there is scrumptious. The beaches are so amazing with nice calming waves. Can Cun is also a place for those who love to relax.

I would love to go to Chongli in China or the Tahiti Islands in Bora Bora. The idea of a skiing/snowboarding hub seems so cool. I love snowboarding and I have become very good at it over the past few years. Most days I would rather go snowboarding than go swimming in the ocean, but I still love the ocean. that is why I have the Tahiti Islands. It seems so cool how the houses are above the water and you can swim to another person's teepee. My sister read something somewhere and has been telling my parents that she wanted to go to Bora Bora. I thought it would be like any other beach vacation but it clearly does not look like that. It looks so unique and fun. I think the Big Island in Hawaii could have made the list. The different sand colored beaches are so unique and cool. So are the two enormous volcanoes. My kind of vacation is either a big city with great food, a place where you can snowboard all day, or a place where you can swim in the beach all day. I think the job would be a really fun one to have seeing different places and stuff, but it would be hard to stay away fro home for a while. Seeing new cultures and trying new food is fun and all, but in the end your family and your home is the most important thing. Also, while you may be having fun in different places, something bad could suddenly happen in where your from, and you would have to leave.

I want to travel to Eilat. I would love to explore the depths of the sea, finding any animal possible, emerged in its deep blue. Every aspect of the trip seems wonderful. I have only been to New York City, as it is the closest and cheapest option near me. I think an incredible place to visit is Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, as its beaches are stunning and will have your jaw dropped, not to mention how insane the resorts are there. My ideal vacation would be very adventurous, with parasailing and deep sea diving. Trying out new things and getting out of my comfort zone is what really makes me happy. This job sounds like a dream job, too. Maybe you have to work hard sometimes, reading and writing instead of enjoying. However, I feel that getting paid will compensate for it.
Naiima Jabati (Julia R. Masterman, Philadelphia)
The place I would love to go to is probably Los Angeles. With its diversity and many different fun attractions, like, the Hollywood walk of Fame, the Hollywood sign, Universal Studios, Disney World, and one that I would look most forward to, the LA Farmers’ Market. In this area, many people speak different languages and have many different cultures and styles. This would be the equivalent to going to many different other places when you could easily go to one place and experience that different places around the world! I would definitely look forward to trying the man other foods that have different tastes from people around the world. Many fun places could have the influence of these many people reflect the diversity of LA.

Of all the places mentioned on the list, I would most likely love to visit Panama or Santa Barbara, California. I would honestly love to travel to all of these places but the soothing picture of Panama really got me. I love water and the beach and the clear waters in Panama are amazing. I have also always wanted to go whale-watching and in the description, it said that you could find that there. My ideal vacation is when I can relax but also see many exotic things which Panama really succeeds in. I would also love to go to Santa Barbara, California because I love food. In the description, it states that there are many new places to eat including ice cream and has jaw-dropping ocean views.
Jason S. (Philadelphia, PA)
Part 1: I would like to travel to many of the exotic places on this list, as when I travel I like to experience other cultures than the one I experience at home, because that I can experience at home! I would especially like to travel to some of the Eastern Asian destinations, because they look foreign and beautiful! Some other destinations that looked interesting include the Paparoa Track, NZ, Tatra Mountains, Slovakia, and Calgary, Canada! I have been to Sault Ste. Marie (Canada) many times before, which is near the ice caves, and I have been to New York City many times as well. Other than that, I have been near some of these places, such as Los Angles, CA, Northern Rivers, NSW (I have been by it on a train), and the Frisian Islands! I would recommend Ghent, Belgium, as there is so much history there and so many beautiful churches (there is even a castle!) downtown, yet there are modern services, such as city trams, and beautiful, serene canals and waterways! I would also recommend Pittsburgh, PA, as even though it is a smaller city, it is compact and build well, there is plenty to do, and there are trams and bus routes servicing downtown! If you can find the time, it is simply fantastic to kayak down the Allegheny River, and back up again! My ideal vacation is a relaxing one, where I am free to explore at my own pace, but in an exotic area where I can experience a new culture, and try new things, like local food dishes!
Jason S. (Philadelphia, PA)
@Jason S. Part 2: I think that it would be fantastic to be the New York Times travel writer, because I love traveling to all sorts of places. I think that I could do a good job immersing myself in the culture and then writing about it afterward! I think it would be fun to always travel to a new place every week or so, but it might get tiring, and I wouldn't get to go home for a while! I think that being able to travel many places and the get paid on top of that (as long as all the expenses are paid by the New York Times, although it would be ok if the expenses are not paid!) might outweigh the negatives for this job, and this job sounds like it might work very well with what I like to do!
Jonah A. (Masterman School)
I would love to go to the island of Olkhon in Lake Baikal, Siberia, Russia, as well as the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. I would like to go to these places because I like the cold, as well as mountains, and both of those places provide plenty of both. I would also like to go to the Setouchi Islands in Japan, as it provides beautiful scenery, and can expose me to culture. I have been to Yellowstone, and Jackson Hole in Wyoming, both of which I would gladly revisit, as they give off a profound feeling of being closer to nature. I would recommend traveling to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, because it is very similar to some European cities, but also has a North American metropolis. My ideal travel destination is somewhere where I can have fun, whether being in nature, doing something like fishing, or enjoying the culture, like going to a popular dining destination. I would not like to have the job as the 52 Places Traveler, because I enjoy my life where I am right now, and have many obligations to attend to, that I wouldn't be able to as a travel writer.
Sabrina Mintz (Masterman, Philadelphia)
I think that I would most want to go to Setouchi Islands in Japan. In the description it sounded so beautiful. Also, the article talked about bike riding through citrus and olive groves which sounds like so much fun. I love biking and rarely get do to it, and it would be amazing to be able to ride through such a gorgeous place. I've always wanted to travel far, but the farthest I've ever traveled is to Mexico and going to Japan would be so amazing. The food is delicious and i would love to actually eat japanese food in japan.
Person (Colorado)
@Sabrina Mintz you should totally visit japan! it is so much fun with so many places to go. no matter what kind of food you get, its always good! i recommend japan to anyone who is considering that option.
Molly Flaxman (Masterman School Philadelphia)
Traveling has always been a huge part of my life. My family is from all over the place, so we are always visiting family in Ireland, going to see old friends in Spain, or even seeing where my 5th great grandpa lived in France. My past experiences have really influenced what I want to do when I'm older: Travel the world. Out of the 52 places to visit, I honestly want to go to all of them. I would love to see different beaches, new sights, new activities, and of course, new food. But there where 3 places that made me think "I need to go there right now!" One of those places was Puerto Rico. Not only is it a beautiful island filled with new culture and sights to see, But It would be so cool to see how much it has rebounded after the hurricane. I’ve seen pictures and I’ve read articles, but it would be absolutely incredible to see it in real life, not on a screen. There is so much going on in Puerto Rico and I have to see it! Over the summer, my cousin went to Panama, an I haven’t heard a single bad thing about it! There are beautiful beaches and gorgeous tourist attractions. Plus, new eco-resorts are in the making, and it would be amazing to experience one. The last place I need to go is Eilat, Israel. I am partially jewish, so seeing more of my ancestors culture and religion in Israel is on my bucket list. Underneath Eilat’s stunning red sea, there are thousands of brightly colored fish, gorgeous coral and an ideal place to snorkel. This incredible paradise was made for me.
George Siokos (Masterman Philadelphia PA)
Out of all the 52 places I couldn't pick one, but I can narrow it down to top three. If I had to i would go to Munich Germany, Aberdeen Scotland, and Wyoming. Out of all these places these three stuck out the most. I have always wanted to go to Germany as my babushka has family there i would like to meet. Munich also has a lot offer. I have Heard there are some of the best museums and theaters there. Germany it self is a great place to visit. The Ardennes would have to be my number one place on this list, if it was on the top 52. In Aberdeen Scotland, there are beautiful landscapes and there is a old fashioned train ride from London to Aberdeen that would be the star of the trip. And last but not least Wyoming. The landscape there is amazing. The mountains and the plains remind me of cowboy territory, and now that i think about it, would be fun to ride a horse around. I have only been to one of these places sadly, and it was Williamsburg. I have to say, i thought it would be boring but i loved it there. If i you are a history buff, go to Williamsburg. If I would say to go somewhere not on this list I would say go to Pennsylvania. Any average deer hunter would love it here as there is plenty of woods and deer.
Benjamin Chiem (Masterman - Philadelphia, PA)
-Of the 52 places named by The New York Times, I would like to visit the Setouchi Islands. I would like to visit this destination because it seems peaceful and it seems like a journey I would remember. I have been to some of these destinations which are New York City, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. They were all memorable trips, Las Vegas and New York City were my favorites, but I liked New York City more. There were many places to go such as Time Square and Central Park, I would like to go again someday. -My ideal kind of travel destination is somewhere that is peaceful and somewhere where I can relax. I would love to go to a country where I can learn about their culture and try new foods. I would like a trip where I can enjoy nature and revel in the excitement of a bustling city because I might remember the trip more. -I would really enjoy the job as the 52 Places traveler because it would be fun to visit all the different places, see the different cultures, and try the different foods. Somethings that may be challenging are the fact that you're in a plane a lot and remembering everything to write about it.
Sienna Shelton (Masterman, Philadephia)
-Of the 52 places named by The New York Times, I most want to go to Dakar in Senegal. I have been to New York City. I think New York City is a place full of great opportunities, and it can be so big that it can be a little bit overwhelming. I last went to NYC around December of 2017, and it was so much fun to walk around and it would seem like I would have a better experience if I stayed longer, instead of just for a day. When I recently went, most of the time I went shopping and tried some new foods, because I went to a vegetarian place. - My ideal kind of travel destination is a place to be kind of adventurous. I would like to learn more about their culture and possible practice speaking another language, but I would not want to try new foods. I would probably choose a place pretty familiar with the food I eat, but a new place to experience new things and learn about the place’s culture. I would prefer the place be in a sunny place where the temperature is similar to Philadelphia’s. I would go during the summer most likely, so I’d hope that it would be pretty warm during the summer, but not too hot, and that it would be chilly at night to the point where it isn’t that cold, yet it isn’t very hot. I would like to enjoy nature, because if it were in the city, I’d feel a little overwhelmed, and I just want to do things on my own schedule, rather than feel pressure to walk around and sightsee.
Ian Birley (Philadelphia)
I would love to go to the Setouchi Islands of Japan. I would love to go there because they are home to many art festivals and events and I think it would be an enjoyable experience to see some of Japan’s beautiful art in person. I also would love to mountain bike there because there are many breathtaking islands to discover the beauty of. I would enjoy going in 2020 even more because they will have started the shooting star challenge which is a microsatellite that will make the first artificial meteor shower which sounds like it will be a spectacular experience. I would also be privileged to go to Hong Kong because I would love taking the bullet train to Beijing. The history there is rich and vibrant and it really speaks to me as a person. I would also like to learn about the culture of China and how it differs from ours. In all, I would love to go to Hong Kong for the experience.
Ivan Gutsol (Julia R. Masterman)
My family and I are a family who travels a lot, I am very thankful and it is a luxury. Every spring break and summer we travel somewhere new! Usually some place warm in the spring and Europe in the summer. Out of these 52 places I have been to Puerto Rico, New York, and Munich but most of these places I haven’t and don’t plan to. Most of these places are warm and similar to each other and after visiting European and Caribbean cities they look alike. However I really would love to go to Japan, Tatra mountains, and the Frisian islands, somewhere colder, somewhere with mountains, beautiful nature. I believe that there is no reason to go to a vacation just to lay in a resort or sit at a beach. When going on vacation you must experience how it is to live there, experience locals’ culture and arts, visit historical locations, and talk to locals. The world is so vast and different and visiting similar locations is not the best way to explore it all. Here is my suggestion, next time going on vacation don’t go to Disney World go to Mexico, not for a resort but to explore the ancient Mayan civilizations, go explore!
G Jap (Masterman School, Philadelphia PA)
The place I most want to go to is Doha, Qatar despite the fact that I have been there already; although it was only for a brief amount of time at the Doha International Airport. Some of the destinations that were listed were places I have been to before as well such as Williamsburg, New York City, and Dakar. The reason I want to go to Doha though is because of the Doha International Airport. My ideal kind of travel destination is mostly focused towards the trip rather the actual destination. Doha International Airport was probably the second best airport I had ever visited. The architecture was absolutely breathtaking, and I enjoyed just walking around the airport. Too add on, the airport was nice and clean, and the food was not too bad either. That is why when I saw Doha on the list I knew I wanted to go there again, and instead of just staying at the airport I would like to take a look around at the attractions such as the National Museum and Library. The place however, that did not make the list, but I really recommend to visit is Changi Airport in Singapore. Changi Airport was the best airport I had ever visited in my life, and it truly deserves its place as the number one airport in the world. The building was beautiful, and the food was great. It was also probably one of the most hospitable airports I have ever been to. The workers there were nice and welcoming; everyone looked happy. I really recommend going to Changi Airport the next time you travel.
Hanna Sh (J.R. Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
Personally, I think it would be super cool to go to places such as Hampi, India, Santa Barbara, California, Panama, Setouchi Islands, Japan, Zadar and other islands, Croatia, Las Vegas, Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal, Russia, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and the Islands of Tahiti. This is because of some of these places have gorgeous architecture, while others have beautiful beaches, sunsets, sunrises and scenery. A place where I can just relax would make for a wonderful vacation, although practicing a cool foreign language while being there and learning something new would make the vacation even better. I want to go somewhere warm, or hot with a light breeze, and warm beaches. Otherwise, a foreign country would be fun too.
Lily Sklaver (JR Masterman School Philadelphia )
I love to travel, but sadly I have zero time to actually travel. All of the places given seem really interesting, minus Columbus, Ohio (no offense). In the future, I would love to travel to Munich, Eilat, Setouchi Islands, Ontario Ice Caves, Falkland Islands, Lyon, Marseille, Perth, Hong Kong, and the Islands of Tahiti. I have been to some of the places on the list, such as, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Danang, New York City, Wyoming, Los Angeles, Houston, and Columbus. Personally, I think that the North Shore of Oahu should be on the list. You should visit them because the beaches there are amazing, there is so much to do if you're the adventure type of person. If you go in the winter, surfing there is great, and you can watch professional surfing competitions. My ideal travel destination is somewhere with a beach, but near a big city. Somewhere where you can learn a new language and immerse yourself in the culture. I would love to have the job as the 52 Places traveler. It would be fun because I would experience 52 places, and be able to explore and enlighten other people on why they should go. A challenge would be that I would be leaving my entire life behind. Although, it would still be amazing to travel around the world as a job.
Tiko ML (Eagles Country)
Personally, I would like to go to Puerto Rico because I like to go to the Caribbean and my family is from the Caribbean. I want to see the change in Puerto Rico after the devastating earthquake that just happened. I want to experience the weather and the new traditional foods. I have some family from Puerto Rico on my mom's side.
Teddy (Someone on land)
I would love going to Portugal because when I went there it was the best time in my life. I have been to cliffs but I did not go to the rocks and jump off the rocks. I would go and visit my friends and family. Personally I would love to do this job because I want to explore the world. I would have the time of my life. Philadelphia J.R Masterman
Hank (Philadelphia, PA)
I would love to go Santa Barbara,Setouchi Islands, and Las vegas. They all look and seem like wonderful and fun places to travel to especially the Setouchi Islands, because I love the stuff that comes out of Japan and I would love to go there
Rhoslyn Kersten (Philadelphia, PA Masterman School)
- Personally, I would like to go to the Islands of Tahiti, Vevey, Hong Kong, Dakar, Marseille, Lyon, Golfo Paradiso, Aberdeen, Falkland Islands, Olkhon Island, Tatra Mountains, Paparoa Track, Costalegre, Danang, Salvador, Zadar, Ontario Ice Caves, Setouchi Islands, Munich, Panama, Hampi, and Puerto Rico, or basically a lot of the places. I love to travel and when I get older I would like to travel all over and learn about the cultures there, as well as see the destinations. I have been to a couple of these destinations, like Santa Barbara, Williamsburg, the Northern Rivers in New South Wales, New York City, and Los Angeles. I have only been out of the country once in my life time and that was to go to Australia. I loved going to Australia, seeing the Sydney Opera House, and feeding Rainbow Lorikeets. - This summer, I am going to Israel. I am so excited for this trip because my sister got to go a bunch of years ago, and now I get to go. Also, Israel is so beautiful and it has so many things to do everywhere. I am going to go all over in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and so many more places there. - I would definitely be the New York Times 52 Places traveler. I love to travel and I think I would have a lot of fun going all over the world experiencing all of these cultures. I think that this job would be hard if you had a family because you would be gone for a long time. The best part about it is how you get to travel all over for a long period of time. I think this would be amazing.
Yehuda Mahlab (Masterman - Philadelphia, PA )
- I like to travel to different countries instead of close places because I love to experience more cultures and see stuff I would not normally see in America. - Some of the places on the list I have been too, include, Eilat, Hong Kong, and New York City. Eilat was beautiful and it was a great vacation where I could adventure around not just the city but the historical parts too. Hong Kong, I did not really visit but, I was just there for a night. When I stayed there I could remember the big city and all the people that were there. Finally, New York City which is only a couple of hours from where I live, is a place I have been too multiple times. It is the city of dreams and a concrete jungle. - I would most want to go to Eilat again because of how much I love Israel but I truly would love to go to the Ontario ice caves because I enjoy an adventure and really learn about the world. - I would suggest going to Iceland because of the beautiful scenery and the amazing caves, waterfalls, mountains, and glaciers. I visited this over the summer and it was not too cold, so summer is the perfect time to go. Also, the town is nice with many small shops and stores. But, the food can get a bit pricey. - My ideal vacation is one where I can explore the culture, geography, and the food. Vacations where you just sit beside to a pool is not fun for me. I feel being curious and exploring the differences between your life and other people lives around the world is exhilarating.
Sam Doyle (Philly Philly)
Out of all the 52 places on the list, I would want to go to Vestlandet, Norway. My family is part Norwegian, and I have always wanted to go. I love the country's beautiful landscape. It is all so picturesque and serene. Norway to me seems like the perfect place to rest. The one place I have been on the list is New York, and it was for like 36 hours. I would still definitely recommend it to anybody who hasn't gone. It is really just an amazing place filled with the coolest stuff. If you do get the chance, try to visit Broadway. I got to see the Lion King while I was there, and it was an experience I will never forget. I have two places that I think should go on the list. The first is the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing places that anyone can go to in their lifetime. It is a little bit of a struggle if you really want to fully experience it by going below the rim, but it is worth it. The second location I would like to see on this list is Normandy in France. Normandy is filled with the coolest historical spots, towns, and food. It gets you away from the more tourist centered versions of France like Paris. I really love traveling and I am very happy and grateful I have the ability to go to cool places.
Anya Finlay (Masterman- Philadelphia, PA)
I love traveling and I think that it is a great way to experience other cultures while having a good time. My family often takes trips over the summer and we enjoy traveling outside of the country to visit places that are much different than Philadelphia. After looking at the 52 places named by the New York Times, I think that I would like to go to Setouchi Islands in Japan the most. They look absolutely stunning with the beautiful trees, water and small islands off the coast. Setouchi also has scenic bike trails throughout the island which sounds like a fun way to tour the landscape at your own pace. I have been to both Williamsburg, Virginia and New York City several times because I live on the East coast. Williamsburg is amazing for an educational trip while New York City is a fun way to experience a big city with modern buildings and delicious cuisine. One destination that is not on the list that I would recommend is the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. I traveled there with my family in 2015 and they are really amazing. The animals and experiences that you can find, whether you’re taking a hike or swimming in the water, is beyond incredible. I would definitely want to have the job as the 52 Places traveler because I would love to experience the culture, food and nature in all of these different countries. While it would be hard to not see your family during the time I think that it would still be an amazing opportunity to explore the world and try new things.
Niara Hughes (Masterman,Philadelphia, PA)
Looking at the 52 different places the place I most want to go to is Panama. I would love to go there because Panama is a beautiful country with lots to offer. The resorts are close to the beach and provide whale watching and scuba diving. Also, the resort is eco-friendly and that is one of my main concerns when I travel because I always feel guilty when hotels dump waste in the ocean because I could do something to stop it. Additionally, this destination checks off all my needs and wants for a perfect vacation. For example, when I go on vacation I don't want to come back home feeling like I need another vacation so when I go on a trip I aspire to relax but still find time to have fun. Moreover, when I aspire to be adventures I can go out on the streets and experince the extensive culture encompassing me by trying the different restaurants, stores, and beaches. Furthermore, I believe that this would the perfect place for me to go because I will be emerging my self in a different culture that would get me out of the house to experience something new and exciting.
Nyah Price (Providence, RI)
Personally I would want to travel to Puerto Rico. I would want to go there because it is the country my mother is from, but I have never visited it. I want to be able to see the place that my mother grew up with my own eyes and see family I either haven't seen in a long time or at all. To swim in the crystal clear water and lay on the beach. To eat traditional food that my mother never learned how to cook, but loves the taste of. To be able to discover a side of myself that I have never had the chance to fully realize, by going to a place that should also be my home.
Ami S (Masterman, Philadelphia)
All of the places on the list seem really fun and interesting, but I think the place I want to travel to most is the Ontario Ice Caves in Canada. This is because they seem really fun to explore and walk around in, and I really like icy and snowy places. I also want to go because in some time the caves might not even be there, since climate change is getting pretty bad. The only place I’ve been to on the list is New York City. I really like it because it’s so busy and there’s so much to do. You can never get bored. I’m not really sure what my ideal travel destination would be because I don’t travel very often, but I think I would like an adventurous place with lots of nature and places to explore. I don’t think I would really want to be travel write for The New York Times. While I would love to explore all of these places I think I would be homesick, and you can visit a place for one week and then move on.
mariska (masterman school, philly)
Out of all the 52 places to go shown by the New York Times I would either want to go to the Islands of Tahiti in Bora Bora or the beautiful Setouchi Islands of Japan. When I vacation I definitely want to relax and adventure and I always opt towards a warm beach stay. I live in the city and I am constantly bustling around and moving. Going to the beach is so relaxing and going to a place like the Setouchi Islands and the Islands of Tahiti would allow me to experience new food and culture while also allowing me to explore and relax. I think the job of the 52 places writer would be amazing and super hard at the same time. On one hand I would love to love to get to experience all of those places and get to share my experiences but on the other hand it would be terribly hard to not see me family or friends for that long. Sure I would make new friends and meet new people but say i was only at a certain place for a week at a time, I would feel so lonely. If i was ever offered this job it would be an extremely hard decision.
Ona Stocovaz (Masterman)
All of the places to visit sounded and looked amazing. Personally, I would like to go the Perch, Australia. I would like to go to Perch because Australia seems like such a fun place to go. You can also do so many thing in Australia, you can relax on the beach or go exploring the town. Perch is an isolated town on the coast of Australia and that is the exact type of place I enjoy visiting. I would not like to travel to all 52 places and right an article about them. I would not like this because you would be traveling and working constantly. This means you would have no lime to enjoy the trip and you would almost always have jet-lag. Plus, visiting 52 places means you would only spend a few days in each place, so even if you did find time in your schedule to see the sites, you would have very little time to do so.
Nico M. (Masterman, Philadelphia)
Out of the 52 places, I would most likely enjoy Salvador, Brazil the best. This is because my aunt came from b=Brazil ad it seems like the Brazilian atmosphere is fun and you can have a good time. Also, the people there are so uplifting and fun to be around. Somewhere that is ideal to me is probably somewhere tropical and fun. I like to have a good time especially if I am on vacation and it would be a good memory to have. Tropical places are ideal because in Philadelphia, it is usually cloudy and rainy so it would be a nice experience. If I got offered the job to go to all 52 places I would accept it in a heartbeat. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and it would be so fun to see the world outside of where I usually am, Philadelphia. I would love to take pictures and write about the place because it would be something that you remember forever.
Brian E. (Masterman, Philadelphia, PA)
The NY Times 52 places to go in 2019 looks amazing! I had a hard time deciding where to visit at first. Of all the 52 places, I would visit Lyon, France. I think this place is a good balance of everything I would like to do on vacation. I have never been to France before, but I have always wanted to. My ideal travel destination is a place where I can relax and immerse myself in new experiences. I like to taste new food when I travel, and would love to be there when Lyon plays host to one of four countrywide International City of Gastronomy projects. It’s an indoor exhibition that showcase France’s cuisine. I can just imagine tasting the different foods! I wonder if the people of Lyon like chicken wings as much as I do...or whether I'll find a new favorite! Also, Lyon offers culture and arts, not to mention some beautiful national parks. I think it would be fun to learn to speak French and to observe French culture. This Summer, Lyon hosts the World Cup, and it would great to be among the spectators and cheer on the U.S. women’s soccer team as they try to win their 4th World Cup. I probably would not want the job of traveling to all 52 places for the NY Times even though it's a wonderful opportunity to travel. This job would take me away from home for over a year! Some of the 52 places are pretty remote, with hardly anything to do. I would get homesick pretty quickly without my family and friends and I can't imagine not being with them for so long.
Samuel Hamilton (Masterman)
Out of the 52 places in the world named by this list the place I would most want to go would be the Ontario Ice caves in Ontario, Canada. This would be my number one destination because I really want to go to canada, I like the cold, and caves sound cool (pun intended). I would also want to go see the ice caves because I was too young to remember the only time I went outside of the country. The only places on this list that I’ve been to are Los Angeles and New York City. personally I find New York to crowded and to many people drive in Los Angeles. If I had to choose between the Los Angeles and New York I would probably choose New York because it is closer to where I live right now. One place that is not on the list that I think you should go is Philadelphia because it isn’t as busy a New York and it has lots of historical landmarks (just don’t come during football, people get very aggressive). My ideal place to relax is where I have some stuff to do but not so much that I feel pressured to rush through and stress about making it to places on time. If I had the option to get paid to go to places all around the world I would do it if I didn’t have a family and wasn’t still in college, because I want to have a good work life balance which this job might not allow for. Even though I can fantasize about all this travel as much as I want, the likelihood that I’ll find myself with a job flying around the world is very low.
David W. (Masterman School Philadelphia, PA)
out of the 52 places, I think I would enjoy Danang, Vietnam the best. I am a large fan of Asian cuisine, and Vietnam is one of the best places to be. I have never been there, but a lot of people I know have. I feel jealous. Vietnam also offers a great amount of history, along with amazing tourist sights, like the Khai Dinh Tomb in Hue, and the Hang Son Doong Cave. Vietnam just has so much that interests me. If I would be offered the job of traveling all 52 locations, I would accept without doubt. Even though the first thing in my mind was that I don't have to pay for anything, this is sill a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the world's diverse culture. Some places on the list I don't have any interest in, but most of them I will enjoy very much.
Kenneth R. (Masterman School, Philadelphia)
We live on such a beautiful planet with so many extraordinary places. The New York Times list had some of the nicest looking places I’ve ever seen. Even though they were all so beautiful I decided on only 2. These 2 places were Danang Vietnam and the Tahiti Islands. Both destinations looked so intriguing because of their attractions and sheer, mesmerizing, beauty. I've never been to both of these places but I dream to some day. My ideal place is where I can equally adventure and relax. Its a vacation after all so you don't want to be rushed. However, if you only do and experience one or two things all the time your not really living life. Personally, I would love to travel the world trying different foods. To do this you need to be adventurous. I also like just laying around at the beach. This might be one of the most relaxing things you can do. I feel there is a fine balance to these things. If you find that balance you'll have the best experiences. I feel that traveling to these places for a job would be one of the best jobs in the world. You could experience so many new things and meet so many people, while getting paid! However, there could be difficulties in the job too. You would to buy so many plane tickets that if just maybe one flight had an altercation your whole schedule would be out of sorts. The job is both pros and cons but in the end seems amazing.
Lily Chancey (Philadelphia, Masterman)
I love to travel, although I don't find much spare time to get out and about. Every single place in the list provided looked absolutely breathtaking and incredible, and while there were so many choices, I found myself stopping to take a closer look at Aberdeen, in Scotland. While it may not have been as beautiful or exotic as some of the other destinations on the list, I have always found myself to be fascinated with all things Scottish. I love how the Scottish accent flows, and I have always been amazed by the landscapes and "lochs" in Scotland. What made this location appear even more impressive to me was the old fashion trains, which combine two things I love: old fashioned vehicles and overnight train rides! In spite of all of these reasons, I would also have loved to visit Puerto Rico, as my foster brother's family is from the island of Puerto Rico. I think that it would have been an amazing experience to immerse myself in their culture so that I could great understand the way that other people, including my brother's biological family, have lived their lives. As he was born in America, I think that it could be a wonderful chance to experience the origins of his own culture and to see how much of it his family brought into America. I have been to Williamsburg but spent most of my time at Busch Gardens because the Colonial Williamsburg wasn't up my family's alley. We also went to Las Vegas, but only because we were flying in to the airport there.
Talia Porzio (Hoggard High School, Wilmington NC)
I am your average student, stressed from the amount of homework and the constant pressure I’m always under. I will live in my little bubble for most of the year forgetting that there is an entire world out there to explore. After reading the fifty two recommended places I found The Islands of Tahiti to be one of the places I want to explore. I have always wanted to live on the water and be able to experience something that I could not find anywhere. What made it stand out was “Tahiti’s clear, warm waters offer views of more than 1,000 species of marine life.” This would be something you would only receive once in a lifetime and living on the water while seeing more than a thousand species of marine life is something extraordinary. I want to experience a time where I could reduce my carbon footprint on the earth and the Brando Resort offers great options on how to be eco-friendly. “The Brando resort’s eco‐friendly facilities include a coconut-oil‐powered electric plant, an organic garden and solar panels.” This would be one of the places I would stay if I were to visit The Islands of Tahiti along with staying in a water bungalow.

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do when it is summer. Traveling allows me to get out of my cozy house and discover the world around me. Eating, playing, and relaxing is definitely my type of vacation. Of the 52 spots to visit, the one that was most appealing to me was Costalegre, Mexico. I would love to visit this spot because it has a beach and also the beach is not that crowded. I definitely think Ireland is a beautiful spot for a vacation. During winter break I had a big family reunion in Dublin, Ireland and it was beautiful. There was a gorgeous ocean view from my uncle's home on the hill and the streets of Dublin were magical and historic. Visiting Dublin was an amazing experience for me and I do certainly recommend it for others. I am the type of person who loves the sun and water so my ideal vacation spot would be a nice sunny hot beach with a cool ocean. I would love to have a job as the 52 places traveler because it would give me an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and explore different cultures and people. The most fun thing about this job will be discovering new things and traveling all around the world! The most challenging thing might be sleeping and also being homesick. Traveling to 52 places might take at least a year to complete which might make me homesick and I might have jetlag, but despite that, I would love to be a 52 places traveler!

I would like to go to Las Vegas in the United States. There are many reasons I would want to go there. First off, I like the United States and I wouldn't like to leave my country when I am happy here. Second, it would be the farthest I ever traveled from my home, Philadelphia. I always would have liked to go West, just to see what it is like. I never really move that far from my home, so it would be nice to get out of the East. I like Las Vegas because it would be different from any other vacation I have been on. Vegas is a wild, crazy place. It just fits me! Also, whoever had this job, they did great, and they are one of the luckiest people alive.

Out of the 52 places, I would want to go to Aalborg. It has unique architecture and is highly modernized. I just like the thought of a modernized place where everything is set in the future instead of the past. On this list, I have only been to the Ontario Ice Caves a few months ago. It was very cool (no pun intended) and interesting. However, there are some great places that didn't make the list like the Great Wall of China and the Eiffel Tower in Paris that are really unique in its own way.
Ayush Pandejee (Julia R. Masterman)
Out of all the places on the list, I would like to visit the Ontario Ice Caves. I think that this would be a cool place to visit considering that caves and ice are really cool. On this list, I have been to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York City. I think that Las Vegas is very cool, especially the strip, because it is full of lights and casinos. Los Angeles, I have been to when I was very young with my parents. I have to New York City a lot of times. The most recent time I have been there was on December 30th 2018. I think that Santorini, Greece should have made this list considering it looks very cool in pictures. I would like to visit this place in my life. This place is very cool - it is near a sea and has white homes. My ideal place of vacation would be a place to relax for a bit and then to explore and adventure. I would like to go to another country and try their food. Also enjoying nature can be very nice because cities look the same. This job to travel to 52 places is very cool. New York Times pays for your travel and you get to explore places for free. I would love to have the job of traveling to 52 places. Overall, all places on this list are very cool. I would like to have my opinion and that would be to visit the Ice Caves.
Jessica Hou (J.R. Masterman School, Philadelphia, PA)
Of the 52 places, I would most want to go to the Setouchi Islands in Japan. I've always been so fascinated by Japanese culture and their lifestyle. I love the way the environment is so clean and quiet as depicted in many animes. I really want to try authentic Japanese sweets and candy. The only place I've been to on the list is New York City. I love New York City. It is extremely crowded with some unpleasant people, but the diversity and community is so great. You can talk to a lot of people on the streets and find a lot of people of your race. A lot of immigrants open shops; you can find really diverse food there. One place I recommend going to is Fijian in China. When I was there over the summer, I was on a lot of car rides and a lot of the times I saw thick and large mountains. They would stretch on forever. When you are on the road, it's like your driving through a mountain. In addition, there were so many animals just roaming around. There were stray dogs, but they didn't look like stray dogs. They were clean and beautiful. Sheep and lamb also roam around the roads. I tried to get close to one of the lamb, but the mother screamed at me. The lifestyle there was also really different than in the U.S. Often times after lunch, me and my cousins there would just walk down a highway (it's mostly empty) or a dirt path for fun. My skin was not used to the sun, so I got a sun burn ten minutes into walking. Most people take naps after lunch, so it's really quiet.
Ona Stocovaz (Masterman)
All of the 52 places to visit sounded and looked amazing. I would not like to travel to all 52 places and wright about my experience. I would not like this because you would be traveling constantly. This means you would have no time to enjoy the trip and you would almost always have jet-lag (depending on how you travel). Plus, visiting 52 places means you would only spend a few days in each place, so even if you did find time in your schedule to see the sites, you would have very little time to do that.
Sarayah W (Masterman, Philadelphia)
Personally, I prefer to travel, however, I also like to stay in the comfort of my own home. There are many places on this year list that I would like to visit one day, but out of all of them I would love to go to The Azores in Portugal. I would love to visit for its lush green forestry and beautiful wildlife, when I travel I would prefer to go to places that are relaxing and somewhere that contain wildlife that I wouldn't see in my normal life. My ideal destination is somewhere I can try new foods, learn about different cultures, and learn to speak new languages. So having a job where I could travel around the world to 52 unique locations, would be amazing. Although it comes with being in environments that I have never encountered before, not speaking their language, jet lag and being away from home all the time, I still would love traveling around the globe.
Laila (Masterman, Philadelphia )
I would absolutely love to be the 52 places journalist. It would be so fun to see all these places but it would also be a big pain. You would be away from home for a very long time which would be tough. You would also probably be exhausted the entire trip and always jet lagged which is a big pain. Preparing for the big trip would be hard too. You would have to learn all of the city's and country's norms and what is appropriate and what is not, so you don't offend anyone. Even if it would be hard, I would still like to do it. It would be fun to see different places, people, and to be apart of it all. One place I recommend traveling is to is Russia. Over the summer my mom and I went to Kyzyl, Tuva and Elista, Kalmykia. I am not being bias, I’m not even Russian, but I would recommend going there. It was so cool to go someplace many people have never heard of and never heard the language. It was amazing to see the different way of life that's unlike any place I have ever been.
Janey L. (Julia R. Masterman, Philadephia)
If I could travel to one of the places on the list, I would prefer to go to the Setouchi Islands in Japan. Before I even went through the list, I already had a passion to go to Japan for a trip. I wanted to see Japan's beautiful nature and try some of their traditional foods. Setouchi Trienniale 2019, a major art fair interests me considering it will be held at Teshima and Honjima which are less frequented to create a balance between the nature and the art. There are so many different places to go, some focusing on the natural beauty of Japan like cycling on trails with citrus trees and olive groves. I would love to ride a sea plane with Setouchi Sea Planes to take scenic flights to small and larger islands. The food that I could try on the trip also inticesme considering I could try authentic Japanese food. Japan seems like an ideal place for me to travel and relax to have a fun time in a calm place. I have been to other places on this list such as Los Angeles and New York City but they are bustling with traffic and people, so I would want to ideally travel to a peaceful and less crowded place to experience its natural radiance. Although I enjoy the idea of travelling and would like to try to visit most of the places on the list one day, I think it's nice to do it in moderation and relax in a feeling of comfort and familiarity before going to a entirely new place with some difficulties like language barriers and directional challenges.
Sierra McKinley (Philadelphia,PA)
Personally, I do love to travel, you get to see all of these new things and also get to get out of the mess going on around you. I am lucky that I have had the chance to go to a lot of different places and try all the different things. From the list, I have been to Israel, Las Vegas, Mexico, New York City, Washington, Las Angeles, Houston, and Ohio. I loved all of the places with all of the color and sounds and sights, it was beautiful. I like to go places that are warm but not were when i went to Israel it got so hot almost above 110! The only thing about going to places you may know little about is you have to adapt to their culture. If you do not know the language it can be hard t go to a place because you will not know what most natives are saying. Going to places that you must wear specific things will be hard if you do not know what you're supposed to wear and just wear what you would have on where you live some people may find it offensive. The amazing thing s that they hired a person to actually go to everyone of these places on the list. I would love to have that job a job where you just have fun pretty much the whole time, and you get paid! The one hard part about having that job is you would be away from your family for a very long time needing a least 3 days in each place. I would recommend putting the Bahamas on there, specifically Atlantis, I went to that hotel and it was amazing.
Eric Li (Masterman, Philadelphia)
Of the 52 places, I would love to go to Hong Kong, where most of the infrastructure is, or Chongli, where winter sports are fun there. Places that did not make the list that deserve a spot are Venice, Italy, Chengdu, China, and Xi'an, China. They all have great food and very good architecture. You can spend a lot of time there and not get bored. My idea of a great place to go is where there is a sort of "food tour" because I am interested in the foods that different people in the world eat. I like a more nature kind of scenery. I would love to be a 52 places traveler. Challenges would be to understand the differences and the language. Good things would be basically to go different places and still get paid. That is amazing. You can have a taste of the entire world.
Samuel (Masterman)
I want to go to the Tatra mountains. they look like an interesting place to have lots of adventures. I think the list is pretty good. there are different things for different people. I would like a place in the outdoors that has WiFi. This would be a nice combination of adventure and relaxation. It might be fun to go 52 different places, but if you even spend 3 days there, plus a day for flying there, that's four days. Multiplied by 52 is 208 days - almost 2/3 of the year. I don't think I would want to spend that much time away from home because there are a lot of aspects of my home that I really enjoy. In conclusion, I probably wouldn't want to travel somewhere for more than 1.5 months. And only up to 1.5 months if it's really fun.

Travel is a way to get out of this everyday sort of bubble our society lives in, and be submerged in to a variety of different cultures, tastes, smells, and traditions. Personally, I've been lucky enough to experience as much as I've experienced in my thirteen years of life, thanks to my parents. I'm a bit of an adventurous soul, but also love to have a relaxing minute or two, considering I put myself under a lot of pressure during the school year. I think a place I would love to travel to would be somewhere in Asia or Oceania, as I've never been to either of those continents (although I've been to Istanbul before). More specifically, New Zealand, or Japan. A location I would love to visit again would be the island of Tzia in Greece, or Reggio Calabria in Italy, because those places are somewhat a paradise on Earth. An ideal sort of traveling destination for me would be somewhere that has both a Mediterranean or tropical climate, with it's fair share of beaches, but also a place with a city full of somewhat trendy, modern, or exciting places to spend a day exploring.

Antarctica, I believe it is the best place to go at the moment. There's the historic Antarctic museum, there's the geographers that do research, and there might just be aliens. It also it just so beautiful that it hasn't been touched by humanity.

There are so many places in the world to visit, and when I become older I would like to devote a part of my life for traveling. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to go to Dubai. The worlds biggest mall is located there along with the only 7 star hotel. In addition, I heard there are a lot of cool roller coasters. Other than Dubai, another dream destination would be Thailand. I would love to experience a new culture and try the different foods. In pictures, Thailand is breathtaking and I would go there in a heartbeat. A final destination that I would want to go to is Cambodia. There is this show called a Survivor hosted by Jeff Probst, and during one of the seasons it was held in Cambodia. The view was extravagant and I am speechless in how to describe the islands. Having a job as the 52 place traveler sounds phenomenal because you would get to take a break and visit places that your heart desires. In addition, all you have to do is write about your experiences. Everything is taken care of, and it would just be a extremely long vacation. Although this job sounds great, there are also downfalls. You may have to be away from your family and friends, and that can always make you feel lonely. Though there are downfalls, this job still sounds great. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things in life, so that you can get another.

I would really like to go to the Setouchi Islands in Japan. In general, I love the serene and beautiful landscapes and the climate Japan offers. But since I am more of an adventure person, I love that it has mountains, waterfalls, and hiking trails to experience. I adore traveling, as I think it is a great way to culture yourself in the ways of the world while having fun. My ideal destination would be a warm climate with cool, seaweed free waters and mountains to hike. I personally love to try different cultures, so that I can understand other people in the world. Nature is truly amazing for me, and I like getting away from civilization once in a while. The 52 Places traveler sounds like a really good job, as you get to visit different countries free of charge. You also get to relax and have fun, which can be especially important for adults who have a lot to worry about in their lives. I think what would be fun about the job would be to run around the world, meet new people and try new foods, and relax in hotels. Something that might be challenging would be having to leave a country, especially if you liked that country, because they you might have a feeling of longing to return while you know you might never go back. So in a way, you would get homesickness in a place away from home.
Hope A (Masterman, Philly)
Traveling is one of the best ways to learn. You are exposed to different cultures, as well as encounter the history embedded to the place. One of the proven best ways to learn is to experience what is being taught. Personally, I would love to visit the Setouchi islands in Japan, Thailand, or Danang in Vietnam. My mom was born in Vietnam but was raised in America, a result of being forced to flee during the war. It would be so nice to go and revisit some of the few memories she has as well as enrich my knowledge in the culture. I have already been to China, and from that one trip, I have learned so much. I know the difference between the real Chinese food and Americanized versions, as well as practices and beliefs. Growing up, I ate (and still eat) a lot of diverse foods that typically involved a large majority of Asian food. Pho, banh mi, and jok (rice porridge) are some of my favorites. However, there is still a lot more to try. Next, I would also like to visit Japan. Again, it has great food, but also looks really peaceful. Searching up "Setouchi Islands, Japan" brings you to pictures of beaches and cherry blossoms. It is also known to have really nice, clear waters. Finally, I would like to visit Thailand since it is rich in culture and people. On top of that, it also has really great food.
Nicolas Dorazio (J.R. Masterman School, Philadelphia)
I love traveling. I love seeing the sights and tasting the food and meeting the people. I don’t like getting airsick, though. There is just so much to see in the world and so little time to see it. Going out of the country to try new things is an experience I wish I had more of. For the most part, I have stayed in the United States for my entire life. Only once, on a trip to Canada last summer, have I journeyed out of the country. There are so many places that I want to visit, yet I fear that I will never be able to get to them all. Some of these places include Beijing and Shanghai, China; San Diego, California, USA; Tokyo, Japan; and Seoul, South Korea. I’d also like to visit many places in Europe, including Germany, France, Spain, the UK, Italy, Greece, and Rome. I’m not entirely sure where I want to go in each of these countries, yet I know I’ll be on the lookout for new experiences wherever I go, especially new foods. The experience of eating new food can not be compared to anything else in the world. It is so amazing, even if the food itself is disgusting and you spit it out immediately, you know you tried it and now know to veer away from it. If you like it, then that experience just got so much better. Then you can eat as much as you can while you are there, then when you come home you can look for restaurants that serve the same dishes. If I could choose one place to visit, I’d visit Seoul, South Korea to learn more about my heritage and culture. I love new places.
Bailey Dyer (Florida High School, Tallahassee, FL)
I would like to visit Puerto Rico the most. I would like to go there because my stepmom grew up there and her mom currently lives there. I would like to go to San Juan in particular and experience everything that she grew up with. I not only want to see San Juan, but I would also like to see the more rural parts as well. I want to learn how to cook the traditional dishes from those areas and expand my culinary knowledge. I have never really traveled but I would suggest going to Thailand. Thailand is the top destination on my travel list. The area is so diverse with culture and people. Everything there is absolutely beautiful, and the food is amazing! I mean come on, they have Pad Thai. My ideal travel destination is somewhere that is very different from my home. I like to experience different cultures and learn from them. I love eating authentic foods, I found that is the best way to learn about a culture. I would love a place with plenty of city, but also rural areas in nature. I would be absolutely ecstatic about being the 52 Places traveler. That opportunity to connect with people different from you, and learn something new is once in a lifetime. It would be so fun to meet people, visit historic places, eat new foods, and really learn about a new culture. I think the challenging part would be a language barrier, but that would never stop me from enjoying myself. I’m sure I can communicate well enough with hand jesters and google translate.

Out of the 52 places on this list, I would most want to travel to Eilat, Israel. Many of my family members are Jewish, and I've always felt a strong connection with Israel. I have only been once, almost five years ago, but I really want to go again. Israel is a beautiful country, and I'm sure that Eilat is as well. The assortment of aquatic life also sounds very intriguing, and would be something that I would like to check out. I also think it would be fun to see Eurovision 2019, although I know it is unlikely considering my schedule. Israeli musicians have made some amazing songs for Eurovision, such as Golden Boy by Nadav Guedj, and the song that won Eurovision 2018, Toy by Netta. I love music, and I feel that Eurovision 2019 would be the perfect opportunity to experience different music from all over the globe, as well as the beauty and wonders of Israel.
Evan Barefoot (Hoggard High School)
I've had the opportunity to travel because my mom is from France and we have family all over in Portugal, Spain, England, Canada, etc... As much as I love traveling to visit my family and see these countries, I have always wanted to go to Africa. I don't know specifically what country because all the ones I have looked at are equally as interesting. The article mentioned Gambia and Senegal, they weren't in my choices, but after reading about them, they are. Africa has always interested me because of the culture and the differences in our ways of life. Some people in Africa barely have anything, but they still manage to be happy. Whereas here, it seems barely anyone is truly happy. We have abused the things we want and confused them with things we need. Going to any country in Africa would open your eyes and help you grow as a person. I think experiencing these things first hand has a stronger impact on a person then reading about it or imagining it.
Lauren Kreis (Tallahassee, FL)
Of the 4 out of 52 places named, I want to go to Puerto Rico. I want to go there because I enjoy the arts and would like to walk along the boardwalk. I have been to Panama, which is one of the destinations listed. I really loved the markets in Panama, where you could by crafts made by the indigenous people. I recommend that people visit the Galapagos Islands located off of Ecuador, there you can eat really good seafood, see wild life that you can see no where else, and you can sit on many different types of beaches. My ideal travel destination is anywhere where you can see something beautiful or experience an adventure. I like to be up early and see everything possible while I am somewhere. I love to learn about new cultures and eat new foods. I like to go places I have never been before because that way I get to see new things and enjoy every part of the world. I would love the job to travel to 52 countries and write about them. I love to travel. I have been doing it since I was five, so I am pretty experienced with the routine. It would be fun to eat different foods, see amazing sites, and look for the best parts of each place. It would be challenging to find things that would appeal to a lot of people. Everyone wants to do the touristy things, but the richest parts of countries are what the locals eat, or the untouched sites. So finding a good mixture of touristy and local would be the trickiest. Also communication if I don't know the language.
Reilly Garvin (Danvers, MA )
To start off, I found this article very intriguing. Travel has always been a topic that really interests me. I feel like the idea of being successful enough to travel the world with my friends and family in the future is one of the main things that motivate me to work hard. Out of the 52 places on the list I would love to travel to Hampi, India and the Setouchi Islands in Japan. The pictures of each place provided in the article look stunning and I would find it really cool to learn more about the Indian and Japanese cultures, especially since they are so different from American culture. Another place on the list that intrigues me is Los Angeles. The article mentions how they are in the midst of building a museum dedicated to the art and science of film making and that is a career choice that I find really interesting and am thinking about studying in the future. I have actually been lucky enough to visit Santa Barbara and Puerto Rico. My older brother’s wedding was in Santa Barbara and then my family and I took a cruise that stopped at Puerto Rico for a day. I was around six years old for both trips so i don’t really remember a whole bunch about the actual places which is unfortunate.
Elodie Poussard (Massachusetts)
I am in love with traveling. Going to different places, getting to experience different cultures and ways of life is truly a breathtaking experience that I wish to do more of. Of the 52 places mentioned by the New York Times, I would love to visit both Puerto Rico and Hampi, India. These two places have such a rich culture that is much different than mine here in the U.S. I would love to experience the different foods, sights, and living that these unique places have to offer. In my opinion, these places are ideal travel destinations because they offer unique culture and a variety of different places to see and experience. My ideal travel destination is a place where I can learn about a culture that is completely different from mine because it will give me a greater knowledge of the world I live in. I don’t want to go on vacation and do nothing, I want to learn about people and ways of life. I want to experience, the lifestyles of others across the globe, allowing for different perspectives on my lifestyles. Whether it be busy city life or cal, beach living, I would love to experience those places and see what they have to offer. I would absolutely love to have a job that travels 52 places, that is like a dream job! You have the opportunity to experience the world and do things others dream to do. The only challenging thing about this job might be leaving your family for long periods of time, however what you gain from traveling the world is absolutely worth it.

Out of the 52 destinations given by the New York times, I would most like to travel to Golfo Paradiso in Italy. I have alwasy loved to travel and I have always wanted to travel to Italy. The oceans are very beautiful, and there's so many types of food to try. Some destinations that I have been to that were on the list are New York City and Los Angeles. These are very famous crowded cities that have much to explore and are great places to get to know. My ideal kind of travel place is where I can both relax, yet be a little adventurous. I enjoy exploring and also having some down time for myself. I also definitely like to try new foods and learn about different cultures when I travel, for I find it very interesting how people have different ways of life. The times hired a person to travel to all these 52 destinations, and I would love to be the person that has that job. Being this person would allow you to discover so many new things about places all over the world. It would be very fun to try new foods, visit beaches and meet new people. Something challenging might be getting sick from these different foods and new environments that this person may not be used to. However, I this opportunity would be amazing and life changing.

I consider myself a traveler due to the fact that my family accommodates any gap in our academic schedules with an adventure. Though I have been around the world and have seen the different cultures and way of life, I would love to expand my knowledge on the world around me. My favorite trip of all time was my trip to Japan, rated seven on this article’s list. On my travels, I saw amazing sights such as Mount Fuji, cherry blossom trees, bamboo forests and many more unique and interesting places. What I personally found impressive was the transportation systems. As discussed in this student opinion, there are many different types of transportation, such as a main port for cruise boats, the bullet train and cycling. There has been one place I've been wanting to experience for years, London. They mention London several times in other articles to add to the experience. Scotland, Frisian Islands, and Australia's articles all include a mentioning of London. I feel compelled to try their traditions, such as tea and “biscuits”, their railroad system and their tourist attractions such as Big Ben, the London Eye and their historical palaces where past Queen’s may have lived. But if I had to pick to go to a destination on that list, it would be Japan. I adore the culture and how clean and organized it is compared to other countries. I felt relaxed with the transportation systems, hotels, and how they maximize the space to effectively provide more attractions.

"Every dreamer knows that it is entirely possible to be homesick for a place you've never been to, perhaps more homesick than for familiar ground." this quote, said by Judith Thurman, perfectly describes how I feel. I've been so focused on this feeling for so long. I was so confused on how I could feel sadness at being away from a place I had never been as if it was my own home, that I googled it so much that I found a word for it. "Ferweh" is a German word that has no direct English translation but pretty much means "far-sickness". I never realized how little of the world I had seen until I moved out of my bubble and flew with my Mom from my tiny beach hometown another little town, except this one was in Greece. My brain was so amazed by the cultural differences, such as eating dinner at 12 am, the millions of stray island cats running around, and not being able to flush toilet paper. I know those differences aren't that big of a deal but I was amazed that all I had to do was get on a flight to be shown a completely new mindset and culture! Travel was important to me before that trip but it truly drove home the fact that traveling was a huge passion that I needed to pursue. The main subject of my "fernweh" was stated in the article which isn't very surprising. Japan. Japan is a must-see country on my travel list. It's so silly but every time I hear "Japan" my heart leaps and feels heavy with what I guess is longing. One day I'll visit the country. I'll make sure of it.

I would most like to travel to the Islands of Tahiti. Tahiti is such a beautiful place, and the culture is amazing. In French class a few years back I did a research project on Tahiti, and since then I’ve been longing to go. There are beautiful beaches, cute tourist shops, and fun activities for everyone. Some other places I would love to travel to would be Mykonos (Greece), Florence & Venice (Italy), Marrakech (Morocco), Okavango Delta (Botswana), Chiang Mai (Thailand), and Reykjavik (Iceland). I think that exposing ourselves to different cultures and geographical regions make us more aware of the beauty of this planet. Ideally, I like vacations where I can relax but also learn new things as I explore the area.

When I think of what I want to be able to do as an adult, I think a lot about how much I want to travel, and that I want to see as much beautiful places that I can. I think that the world has so much to offer us, and I want to get as many good experiences as I can from it. The place I wanted to see the most from the list of places recommended for travel would be Panama, because it seems like it has many things you can do there, and can explore. I have also seen pictures online, and the scenery there just looks so exotic and beautiful. I also think it is very interesting how there are many ecologically friendly resorts in Panama, and how the tourism of Panama are trying to find new ways to protect the ecosystems from pollution. I would recommend Idaho as a good place to hike and see mountains, rivers, and animals, because it is not well known for tourism, even though they have many amazing things for people to see. My ideal destination would be someplace where I could go hiking and explore, but also be relaxed. It would be somewhere fairly warm, and preferably peaceful and quiet. If I could go anywhere in the world, I would simply want to be somewhere beautiful where I could forget about the rest of the world and just breathe. Sometimes things get too stressful in life, and I would want to be able to take my time and just let go of all my worries if I could get anywhere in the world to travel.

I travel every year and leave the country. However, I have always wanted to different a different place for once. I usally always go to Mexico. I have visited a lot of places in Mexico but one day I want to be able to travel to Paris or to Europe. After reading this article, I want to find a job in where you work and travel because I want to visit the whole world. First I have to go to college and become something though. I am extremely excited for my future.

From the 52 places named by The New York Times I would most want to go to is Puerto Rico. I would like to go there because The New York Times mentioned the islands and cruise ships with nice performances and historic destination. It sounds like I would really enjoy my vacation there because I would learn new things while enjoying myself on the cruise ship at the same time.

Ever since I was young I always would imagine myself traveling across the globe, exploring different countries, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures (I have never yet but I am keeping my hopes up). After reading the article and thinking, I noticed how amazing, crazy, and lucky we are to live someplace so magical and full of new discoveries. However, one of the places that stuck out to me the most as I was scrolling through this list was the Elqui Valley, located in Chile. There aren’t any specific cities or countries that come to mind that weren’t included in the list, but I would recommend places that are worth exploring. Someplace where you can enjoy and appreciate nature; which is very out of the ordinary considering we live in a society where manufacturing and capitalism are at the forefront. My ideal vacation place would be somewhere where I could explore: go on hikes, watch the stars, go to cool cities with amazing history, learn about new cultures, and try new food. I think it would be a little stupid of me to say that being paid to travel around the world would not be an amazing opportunity and job, so yes. I would absolutely take this job, with both the pros and cons it comes with. I do believe it must be hard to constantly be changing environments and leaving people you love behind, but being able to do this is a once in a lifetime chance only a sliver of people get the privilege of being apart of. So yes, this opportunity would be breathtaking.

It has always been a big dream of mine: to get to travel the world someday. Even though, the only place I’ve been to is a little village in Mexico. However, I think that I would personally want to travel to Paris and Greece. I’ve never actually been to these destinations. However, something about there cites; attract my attention. I believe that the author missed the country, Mexico. Mexico should be a country that people should visit. Not because it is the only place I’ve visited. However, it is because the food and cites are amazing. My ideal destination would probably be Greece. It seems like an amazing place to relax and have adventures in. I’ve heard and seen online-that Greece has the best spot to view a sunset; which I honestly want to see for myself.

My biggest dream is to travel. Having never left the country, I rely on the internet and experiences from friends to tell me about the world outside of the US. Last year I got to know two foreign exchange students that had come to the US for a year and it only fueled my passion for travel. It amazes me how different cultures are and I want to learn about them all. The Tatra Mountains in Slovakia caught my attention. I live in a port city, right by a beach community so its always fairly warm. It would be interesting to go to a place that has snow and it's sweltering hot for 75% of the year. Also there are many outdoor activities that I have never tried before (due to lack of snow) like snowboarding, skiing, snow tubing, etc. Due to the three universities nearby, I will get my full on learning about the culture and way of life in the area, with street art, cafes, and restaurants in the regional capital of Tatras, Kosice. The world has so much to offer and I only hope to be able to witness a small bit of it in the future.

In my lifetime, I have visited five of the seven continents. Travelling has always lead me blindly into the most thrilling and unique experiences. I will take any chance I get to pack my bag and experience a new lifestyle, and I am constantly searching for ways to broaden my cultural horizon. There was one destination included in the article that sounded very rare and intriguing: Isla Palenque, Panama. When reading the description, the part that caught my attention was "the resort grows some of its own food, has furniture made from fallen trees and maintains a no-plastics policy, including subbing papaya shoots for straws." It would be a totally new experience for me to "live off the land", and get away from all of the sounds overpopulation. There are so many special landmarks on the Earth, each with distinct cultures and people, that I don't even know if it's possible to visit them all while maintaining a steady income or home. I want to see the world and absorb everything that it has to give, and I intend to try my best to do so. With that said, I don't want to pick just one of the destinations listed in the article, because they are to different to decide. I want to see it all.
