USA wins in the short term. China wins in the long term. This is called a win win negotiation.

"The trade talks could help clear the way for higher-level talks this month when President Trump attends the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland." Trump is clueless how the world economy works, so why is he attending??? He is probably going to mouth off saying how the US is being taken advantage of and now that he is President he'll make all pay, so don't expect a discount at his hotel while visiting Washington! I am just waiting for another Trump farce to unveil at Davos.

It is difficult to accept that any meeting with Trump involves “higher level” talks.

Blunderbuss tactics, the marquee feature of the Trump administration, don't really work well in the far east. At this point, any outcome from these talks is completely random.

"U.S.-China Trade Talks End. Now High-Level Talks Can Begin." High-Level? There is no there, there. The Trump administration asserted that there would be no retaliation for our tariffs. There was. They have no clue how the real world works.

This is honestly just one more "sounds good" initiative during the Trump disaster that will never work. Neither side can be trusted at all since China is China and Trump is Trump. A "deal" under his fitful rule means nothing at all. And if there are so called "private meetings" between Trump and Xi like he had with Putin, we are in even more trouble than we are now.

‘China is China and Trump is Trump.’ The Chinese didn’t vote for the CCP but Americans did Trump. So it really should be ‘CCP is CCP and America is America.’ Otherwise I agree with your comment.

It will be a win-win situation for both countries. Trump needs a short trade war to claim victory. He can use it to boost sagging stock market and confidence for 2020 election. Xi needs a long trade war to build up domestic industry such as chip and airplane for self reliance. But he will settle for a short trade war as well to calm the domestic population. Our economy are so intertwined with each other that we rely on each other. If we work with the Chinese, we benefit from it. If we don't, both countries will be hurt. Better to start the cooperation now than later.

Trade wars such as the ones Trump has initiated bring instability, not victories. No matter the outcome, we the American people have lost stable markets for our products, good prices for our products, and found rising prices for what we purchase across the marketplace in no way compensate for the losses Trump has inflicted. Waging trade wars to alter trade deficits is ignorance personified. That person is Trump.
