No disrespect intended, but Bohemian Rhapsody was mediocre at best. Rami Malek is very talented, but difficult to bring Freddy Mercury to life on screen. The first half of A Star Is Born rocked, but second half was also quite mediocre. Difficult to understand how Green Book and it’s primary actors didn’t score more (Mahershala Ali is genius). Otherwise it was a pretty fair night.

What possible justification is there for not giving Keri Russell best actress for The Americans? She gave unforgettable performances week after week.

Caitriona Balfe should have won! Outlander all the way! #CatrionaBalfe
Charlie (Sydney Australia)
Bohemian Rhapsody was so quickly dismissed and panned by the NYT - "Another one bites the dust". I'm sure that critic must be scratching his head right now. I've never seen such a dislocation between critics and fans. I guess the GG's are about the fans.

Only 20 years ago, the "Golden Globes" were hardly noticed. To be fair, they are 75 years old; however (quoting Wikipedia), "The Academy Awards are a set of 24 awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry & It's equivalents – the Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Awards for theater, and the Grammy Awards for music – are modeled after the Academy Awards. I believe about 15 years ago, the Golden Globes took on a life of their own. While doing a decent representation, for me, they are more like "The Peoples Choice Awards", similar to "Reality television. Although this occurred around the same time social media exploded, this is not a coincidence; it is more like they became a part of it. It's as if the Golden Globes wanted to be a dumbed down version of the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys & Grammys; all into a single, self serving thing: Money. You cannot watch "Late Night With Steven Colbert" (genius) or "The Tonight Show" (with Jimmy Fallon) without this occurring when an actor is introduced: "Please welcome Golden Globe Winner" (or "Nominee") ___ (insert actor's name), or "Please welcome Academy Award Winner" (or "Nominee") ___ (insert actor's name), etc. The studios began promoting (through the Golden Globes) all kinds of actors, films, etc. Now their largest income device is "Disney World", or "Universal City", etc. They are extremely expensive for families; much more than taking them to a theater. Attendance is dropping sharply due to Amazon, Netflix, VUDU, etc.

Hooray for the Americans! What a wonderful show with such great acting and realistic story line.

I stopped watching award shows since they became a platform for the political agenda for Hollywood. It used to be fun. Not anymore.
Cat Figueroa (Florida)
@Barbara D thats exactly how I feel and the ones that deserve to win never do !
Greg (Chicago)
@Barbara D - Yeah! Since Brando is ‘73, who watches award shows?
Gina B (North Carolina)
really sad BlackKklansman made no motion in this ocean of blindness albeit yes, Glenn Close.
Easy Goer (Louisiana)
@Gina B I agree, albeit in a slightly different manner. I don't watch the Golden Globes, for reasons I already posed. There are so many actors who have never won a Golden Globe, and especially, an Academy Award. I love to see Willem Dafoe win (I don't even know if he was nominated). He is due at The Academy Awards. It's like Dustin Hoffman was for decades, until finally he won for "Rain Man" (1988). Paul Newman didn't win for almost 40 years, until "The Color of Money" (1986). Ironically, Tom Cruise was in both films. The most egregious omission is Stanley Kubrick; Although he won an Oscar for FX in "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), it is mind boggling he never won a "Best Director Oscar". He is the absolute pinnacle of directors in the 20th Century. He was very moved accepting what is truly the highest director's award: The Director's Guild of America (DGA) "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 1993.*Please note: In 46 years he made only 13 feature films; all different genres (he removed the 1st, Fear & Desire/1953 almost immediately). This is voted on only by his fellow directors. It meant the world to him. His acceptance speech, which he filmed and sent to the DGA to play is incredible. He said in his acceptance film he could not come because he was working on "Eyes Wide Shut (1999), starring Tom Cruise & Nicole Kidman. He tells it like it is, in his own inimitable way. It's on the DVD or Bluray Disc of "Eyes Wide Shut". He died 6 days after finishing that film: March 7th, 1999.

We had a great time watching the awards. Loretta Mae stopped off at Sheetz and got hotdogs and pizza for everyone to eat. I wore my fur coat that I bought in 1972 to make it feel like I was a moviestar at the awards. My friend Dixie brought some beer and we had a good time.

Of all the winners, I was most happy to see that Richard Madden ("Bodyguard") won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The series is riveting, with numerous "twists and turns", Mr. Madden's performance was amazing. Bodyguard is a British tv series and can be watched on Netflix. Only 6 episodes for season 1, hopefully there will be a season 2
Cheryl K (Indiana)
@Vietnam Veteran I agree! Loved, loved that show and all the actors were great especially Richard Madden.
Paul (Milwaukee)
I am disappointed that Glen Close is not included in the list of winners
JR (Providence, RI)
@Paul She is included: Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Glenn Close, “The Wife”
Larry (Home)
@Paul - Might wanna look a little closer...
Kevin (Rhode Island)
Alan Arkin didn't get an award for his performance in "The Kominsky Method" and Michael Douglas got an award for his appearence as Michael Douglas. Unbelievable!!!!!
Jil Nelson (Lyme CT)
@Kevin Michael Douglas won as acting coach Sandy Kominsky. Please study up on this.
Sparky (NYC)
Green Book was the best movie of the year. Delighted to see it get some love. I thought Christian Bale was impressive as Dick Cheney, but mimicry (which is what it is) is a lesser art than creating an actual character as an actor. I thought Viggo Mortensen was transcendent as Tony Lip.
JB (Asheville, NC)
@Sparky Im with you on this- one of the best films Ive seen and Mortensens' perfprmance was award worthy. Fingers crossed for the Oscars.
KMT (California)
@Sparky Viggo Mortensen's performance is certainly worthy of an Oscar if not a GG. My fingers are crossed. Green Book was my favorite film in 2018.
lew (Mi)
If only I had the Infinity Gauntlet. With one snap half of these movies would just disappear.
msd (NJ)
Disappointed that my two favorite films, Can You Forgive Me? and Stan and Ollie, got lost in the shuffle.
Darlene (PA)
I was disappointed that "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" did not win more. Such smart, funny writing and acting.
Marge Keller (<br/>)
@Darlene I totally agree. It's an incredible series with such smart writing and acting. If I'm not laughing then I'm crying. Fantastic series!
Marge Keller (<br/>)
Darren Criss Patricia Arquette Patricia Clarkson Rachel Brosnahan Richard Madden Sandra Oh The Americans Finally, an awards show with winners I could not agree with more. Everyone of these individuals were outstanding in their perspective role. Funny how "The Americans" are receiving more awards after the show ended than when it was being aired. I thought it was a little eerie how much Michael Douglas is beginning to look like his father.
Sidewalk Sam (New York, NY)
Not that everything in this list of winners is a bad choice, but I find it difficult to believe the voters actually saw "Zama" and "Leave No Trace," and neither one of them made it even into the nominations list.
