I'm so happy to see "Green Book" nominated - even if it's in the Comedy category. There is a lot of humor but it's not a funny subject. The article says, "But “Green Book,” adored by some for its feel-good depiction of interracial friendship while leaving others appalled by its reliance on racial clichés, emerged as a factor in five categories, including Viggo Mortensen’s lead acting, Mahershala Ali’s supporting work, best screenplay and Peter Farrelly’s direction. The strong showing for “Green Book” could give the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences cover to embrace it as well." Why would anyone be appalled? It is BASED ON A TRUE STORY. The men actually said and did those things. The racial cliches are part of racial life. That's the point.

Have the Coen brothers finally lost their appeal? I haven't seen a word mentioned anywhere about "Ballad of Buster Scruggs", either in praise or as a slam or snub. I thought it was very difficult to determine whether I liked it or not. A friend was disappointed when I at first didn't say one way or another, or whether I recommended he see it. I finally said he has to watch it himself; if I can't decide myself whether I liked it, I can't tell someone else if they will...and I don't like that question anyway. It will live on in the netherworld of Netflix, just like an old DVD. Perhaps British/Europeans will take to it, as "old West" stereotypes abound, intentionally and tongue-in-cheek which the Coens do so well, which they seem to enjoy.

@Aaron Let me help you with your opinion. The movie is awful. The little vignettes don’t work on their own as individual short films, nor do they amount to anything artistically or commercially interesting when amalgamated as a whole. In each segment it appeared the actors were as befuddled as I was in watching their performances. Their choices always seemed to be, I’ll just go over the top. With the result that the characters were even more unbelievable and unmoored compared to other Coen brothers films

Not a word about what ribbons everyone is wearing this year!

Omg, Sandra Oh is great in "Killing Eve", but the true star, the one whose performance is truly unique and awe-inspiring, is Jodie Comer, who plays Sandra's foil and nemesis, the hit woman Ms. Oh's character spends the series pursuing.. An episode or two in, I had to turn it off and go online to find out who she was- I was so impressed. She MADE the show what it is. When I read about the show, I figured her character would be some stereotypical stunningly beautiful, glamorous Hollywood version of a "hit woman." To my surprise, while she is beautiful, she was very funny and quirky, and brought depth and vulnerability to what could have been a same-old same-old performance (but not enough to make her sympathetic - she made the sociopathy of the character pretty evident too!) Honestly, she was outstanding. I couldn't believe she wasn't nominated for an Emmy but I figured she'd be nominated for a Golden Globe for sure. Bubkes! I am shocked and disappointed. Now, if Benedict Cumberbatch doesn't win for "Patrick Melrose" - whose performance is a tour de force (you MUST watch it!) there truly is no justice!

I am amazed to see that anyone actually takes this nonsense seriously or even pays attention to it anymore.

@Doctor Woo Am I missing something, Doctor Woo? For someone who doesn't take this nonsense seriously or even pay attention to it...you were forced to read it and then take the time to write about it?

Was My Brilliant Friend ineligible?

Glad to see "The Alienist" got nominated though it probably won't win.

Lady GaGa is a precious soul. I researched female celebrities one year as part of a community fundraiser directed by and for women. Out of all the research I did, of women of several generations and various skills and talents, my heart was filled with learning about Lady Gaga. Here is a woman who left home before 18 even, to find her way of her art. She worked hard, and a lot. She went on to entertain us and endear us. But in the midst of it. This young woman is generous - more generous, I found, than many of those way her senior. She doesn’t brag about it. She’s humble, she’s herself. And let us be grateful. I hope her nominations for “A Star is Born” goes far and wide. She was perfect - as she demands of herself. There is so much more to this woman than what most of us will ever know - she has great talent - and she has great heart. Lady GaGa - You Go Girl! :)

The Kominski Method received some well-earned credit. Clever script, excellent acting, good entertainment minus oppressive political overtones. Too bad First Man didn't receive more notice. Real heroes like Armstrong aren't in right now.

Glad to see Green Book do well. My favorite movie of the year.

Typical of the GG noms. Artistic lite. One of the best pix in y-e-a-r-s got very little love... FIRST MAN where are you?!
