The podcast makes the claim that the Chinese does not have its own fake news, but fake news in the form of government propaganda can also be a problem. Both communism and capitalism, taken to its extremes, can become dysfunctional. On both ends, the dysfunction stems from greed.
What is missing in this discussion is perspective. All of China's prospects rest on continued economic growth and providing a nocibly higher standard of living for its citizens. Without a doubt, China has had a remarkable period of growth but it can not last forever. When a recession comes the people will not stand for it and the party will crumble as it has in every other cycle. No country and defy the laws of economics forever, no matter how skilled their leadership.
The commentator is so confident in this, as are the citizens of China. It reminds me of the turkey and the farmer, each day the turkey is fed by the farmer, and each day the turkey grows a little more confident the cycle will continue forever. So on the day before Thanksgiving, when the farmer arrives with the ax, the turkey is more confident than it has ever been that the cycle will continue...
What's the song that starts at 10:01? Thank you for your time.
Wow, when was the last time we'd seen China as the bad guy in the movies, you ask??
When did we *ever* see Israel as the bad guy in the movies???
It's interesting that all Americans politicians have to make a great show out of getting the AIPAC seal of kashrut -- yet Hollywood schlock offending the ChiComs is sooooo sinister...but of course if there's one thing American history has demonstrated time and again, you can always unite both Left and Right by playing up The Yellow Peril.
