Three Wild Fires burn through the state of California, destroying forests, homes and loves. The fires burn from San Francisco to San Diego, all across the state. Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, Many think humans are to blame. Watching media coverage of these fires is just heartbreaking. Landmark forests are completely obliterated and people's lives are being completely turned upside down. Instead of being supportive of the firefighters and everyone helping to put an end to this, he blames them, saying the fires were caused by gross mismanagement. Dylan McNey, known to many of the triple survivor, survived 2 mass shootings, one of which was the largest mass shooting in American history. The most recent shooting he survived was in Thousand Oaks, California. Residents were just beginning to come to terms with the shooting at a country music bar, then another tragedy hits. "grief compounded by grief" In a response to the shooting, Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor of California calls it "nothing short of a tragedy"
Aniyah S. (Providence)
The state of California is in desperate need of help due to the three raging fires that are burning across the state. Many celebrities are donating towards the cause, not only because they can financially, but because their homes are also being devastated by the fires. As the governor of California said "This is not the new normal, its the new abnormal" the abundance of fires that have plagued California in the past few years is heart-wrenching. For the president of our country to blame the fires on the lack of management and not the actual dry temperatures and high winds is preposterous. James Woods has done a great job trying to share information on the fires and helping those in need.
G Jap (Philadelphia)
I think Mr. Wood’s efforts are commendable, because he is using his fame for a righteous cause. Many celebrities just use tragedies, such as the California wildfires, to only build a false good reputation; their opinions only go as far as being sympathetic. Mr. Wood is a celebrity though who shows compassion, the desire to help those who are unfortunate. He is actually doing something to help the victims of the wildfires by using social media to help connect people, which is what social media should be used for in my opinion. In summary, I admire Mr. Wood for taking action. No, I do not know of any other celebrities using social media to help victims of the California wildfires, because I do not use social media. In regards to Mr. Trump’s response; I disagree with his statement. The lack of management has not been the cause of the wildfires. The real source of the conflict is climate change.
G Jap (Philadelphia)
Edit: I am creating this edit, because I forgot about how the fire in California was even started. Although climate change is creating more wildfires, this incident was not about that. I apologize for my mistake.
Natalia Bieszczad (Philadelphia)
Mr. Woods is truly an inspiring figure. The fact that he is using his fame to help those affected by the wildfires is admirable. The wildfires have caused so much damage and separated so many families. Mr. Woods is helping the people find their loved ones and get information on the spreading wildfires. We need more of these amazing people that use their fame to help, not only for their own good. I think Mr. Woods is an admirable person and we need more of these types of people in the world. I hope everyone stays safe in these tragic fires.
Samuel Hamilton (Philadelphia)
I believe that if you can do something to help those affected by the fire like Mr. Woods is trying to, you should do it in the way that you can. If this is the way Mr. Woods feels he can help then I am completely for that. As for if I know of others doing this same thing, I have no knowledge of any but I would be very supportive of others helping in this same way. What happened was truly tragic and we should do what we can to help.
Josephine Kim (Pasadena, CA )
I think that the fires in these areas have done much damage to California and its structures. But it benefits us as well...by just a little bit. Even if the fires have given us anxiety whether to sleep at night, or maybe grieve over lost family members, everything has a beneficial side to it. Now the fires make us more aware in what to do in case of a natural disaster, in this case fires. The fires also help nature regrow the beauty inside it.
Kate Chin (Philadelphia, PA)
I am very concerned about California and their condition right now. From now, it seems like the fires will only get worse, soon engulfing even larger amounts of California and the helpless people there. It disappoints me on how President Trump acted on this situation. This terrible cause was out of hand, and it is simply just wrong to blame those who are suffering for this NATURAL cause. Plus, even if the "poor management of the forests" started the fire, it would have been even worse if they had more trees. Celebrities should think more about what they're saying if they don't want to hurt themselves or anyoe else.
Kristina Kitsul (Philly)
Most people don't have a voice to share their message with their world. Maybe it's because they're not celebrities. That's why I think what Mr. Woods is doing is truly admirable. Not only is he informing some about what's going on, but he's also helping people in need. I really do believe that we need more like this in the world. Celebrities especially, recognizing that many people will listen to what they have to say.
Kenneth R. (Philadelphia Pennsylvania)
Personally, I think Mr. Woods is doing an amazing thing. The hashtags and his twitter feed are really helping with the fires in California. I really credit his efforts and if I was a celebrity I would do the same. Sadly, I haven't heard about any other celebrities contributing efforts to relief and aid. I didn't look into the subject matter though so I bet others are helping with the fires.
Liam S. (Philadelphia)
I am just, wow. Just the way Mr. Trump responded to the tragedy was terrible. Oh the wildfires are starting because of poor management of the forest. OH REALLY HMM. If there is a tsunami one day, of course it can't be a side effect of and earthquake or any other natural causes. No it is because of poor management of the SEA. It just hurts reading what he says to the country and I hate to say it but it really does trigger me.
Reza Chity-Guevara (Philadelphia, PA, USA)
I believe that Mr.Woods efforts to use his fame as a way to help others is a very good thing as social media presence isn't usually used for aid but more of a place to post information on your life and cool things you do. This repurposing of social media is good because many will see the important message on helping those who lost their homes from the fires and it will circulate. This allows people to think of ways to help and be able to alert Mr.Woods what they plan on doing to help. I also do not know of any celebrities who are using their social media presence to spread the word about missing people and how to contact loved ones if there is information available.
Angela Xhori (Philadelphia)
I think that since many people have no platform to spread others and their own messages. I think it is very admirable that Mr. Woods used his fame to spread the needs of others that would normally be overlooked by the government, specifically Mr. Trump who blamed the fires on "mismanagement of the forests". Not only are the residents mourning the recent deaths in a shooting in a Grill & bar but now they must mourn the loss of many of their neighbors and friends. With so many missing and dead, it truly is grief piled on grief
Emilio (Philly)
I think what Mr Woods is doing is great. He is reaching out and helping people in need right now. More people need to be doing what he is. The fires in California have been devastating and people have been killed and reported missing. Many people have lost their homes so people like Mr Woods is what California needs right now.
Sarayah W (Philadelphia)
The wildfires that occurred in parts of Calfornia take lives and houses of innocent people was a very tragic event. This left many people homeless and causing them to lose their businesses. So celebrities using their platforms to express the importance to help others that have been affected is greatly appreciated. It shows that they care about the community around them and that other people in the nation should help them, even though they might not live in the area. Everything that was caught in the wrath of the wildfires that took place needs help from others to restore the beauty of what they were before.
Ahsaan M. (Philadelphia, PA)
I think that the efforts that Mr. Woods have made to raise awareness for the people affected by wildfires is great. These fires have devastated the people of California, burning down houses and taking lives. I really think that it is great that Mr. Woods is using his fame and popularity to send messages to help with this terrible situation. I feel terrible not being able to help the people affected by these fires, so when I hear that someone else is helping out it makes me feel much better and that there is hope for the people of California. #ParadiseStrong
Brian Eng (Philadelphia, PA)
I think it’s really great that Mr. Woods is trying to broaden the reach of those in need. Since at least 35 people have gone missing, it’s best if everyone helped out in trying to locate them to save any survivors. I don’t know of any other celebrities that are using their social media presence to spread the word about missing people, but I am certain that there are some other people like James Wood who are aiding in the location of missing people, the reunion of family members and loved ones, and the saving of lives.
Abibat L. (Philadelphia)
It is very devastating to see the people of California constantly going through the disastrous results of not only wildfires, but also the gruesome mass shootings. People have lost their homes. Buildings, shops, everything has been destroyed and many lives have been lost. Survivors and the families of the killed and missing need as much support as they can get to get them through these sorrowful experiences.

I feel so sad for all of the residents of Southern California. I don't only feel sorry for the victims of the fires but also the families living in non-affected areas. It must be a constant worry that the fires could travel to there homes. I personally have cousins that live around Ventura and I have no idea how worried and panicked they must be. I love how Mr. Woods is using his platform to spread awareness about the fires. He has good intentions to communicate his opinions with the rest of the world and is grieving for the families affected. He noticed that he could use social media and his fame to spread love and support. everybody affected by the fires has been so strong, and i support them 110%
Naiima Jabati (Philadelphia )
The wildfires have caused so much damage to the people of California. People's properties and personal items have been damaged, as well as the feelings and hopefulness of many. It's so devastating that a place that is usually so welcoming, and so enjoyable to stay at, has been going through destruction leaving many misfortunate.
Michael Fenerty (Philadelphia)
The wildfires are way too much. They keep happening over and over again and it is now just normal. These fires are hard to control, but we have to be more prepared and ready for them. People are dying and houses are falling down. Imagine you lose everything because of something that isn't even your fault. This is what California citizens are facing. It is absolutely horrible. These have to stop.
Hanna Sh. (PA)
It really is so sad that California keeps getting slowly destroyed by the wildfires, especially since there were incidents earlier in 2017, meaning that California is constantly a victim to this and it should always be ready for things like this to happen from time to time.
Sienna Shelton (Philadelphia, PA)
This news is so terrible to hear. It seems as though everyday a new disaster is happening. It is terrible to me that the survivors not only have to deal with what is happening in the state of California, but one has even been in TWO mass shootings! Those who have helped others and even risked their lives are so brave, and the wildfires are going out of control. Normal citizens are being killed in these wildfires, and there needs to be a solution. This is having a huge impact on the Californian citizens and their families, and I really hope that they can persevere and keep pushing to be even braver than they already are.
Sivan Frankel (J.R. Masterman)
I think it is so shocking and so terrible that all of this destruction and death is happening in California. However, I don't think people give enough credit to the firefighters, search and rescue teams, and other first responders that are working to combat the flames and find those who are missing. These very brave and selfless people have been working nonstop - often with little or no sleep - to contain and fight the fire, rescue those who are trapped, and find the bodies of those who did not make it. They are doing work that is so hard and dangerous yet so important, things that normal people would never dare do, just so they can help people in need. To all of these wonderful people, thank you. It takes a lot to do what you're doing, and it is so amazing that you are willing to do this just to help your fellow Americans. Maybe instead of looking at all of the destruction and sadness, we can feel lucky to be living among such courageous, noble people. I encourage you to thank firefighters, both in California and your own community, however you can.
Ivan Gutsol (Philadelphia)
Last school year was crazy, every day we would watch daily student news and something crazy would be happening around the country. First California wildfires, then the Vegas shooting, then the Hawaii volcanoes erupting. All these major horrible events happened but we are two months in the school year and already have the Pittsburgh shooting and California wildfires. It's like the Universe wants to teach us a lesson for being so selfish of other beings, but the Universe is not killing us, it's letting us kill ourselves.
Teddy (philadelphia)
This event is a terrible thing in the state of California. ye ye
Lily (somewhere on the east coast)
The wildfires that are raging through California are absolutely devastating. Everyone in a 200-mile radius of the fire should evacuate. It is very admirable of Mr. Woods to be using his fame and popularity to help the cause. As well as other celebrities around the country. The fires are stranding people and causing families to be split. Dozens of people have died, and over 200 people are MIA. Anyone who sees or hears from these people should contact the authorities. It's also mindblowing that places as iconic as Los Angeles and Malibu could be a fiery inferno at any day or moment. Just weeks after the bar shooting in Thousand Oaks, a fire rages across the area. No one could've ever predicted this could happen. The Camp Fire is the largest fire in California history, with over 6,000 structures destroyed. I encourage everyone to stay safe, and my condolences go out to all of the families that have lost someone.
Hank Williams (Philadelphia)
I sincerely feel for all of the families and others that lost homes or family members and friends.I think that you should let the rescue people help find your loved ones and your missing ones so just don't die out there
Hope A. (Philly)
Just when we thought that the California wildfires were done, they came back. Now, more loved ones are lost and the raging fires from burning trees outline the sky. James Woods, a famous actor, is using his position for good and sharing about the wildfires. Having a famous celebrity or person of power take action and put passion into their comments to raise awareness for these wildfires is extremely influential. Studies show that climate change is actually the root problem to these growing destructions. Ways to help? Use less energy in your home such as turning off the lights when not needed. Bike, run, walk, or take public transportation to places whenever possible. Even just spreading the news and showing support can help.
Julia Fede (Philadelphia)
The wildfires in California are just getting to be way too much for anyone to process. This endless burning of the environment is not good, and people should be evacuating as soon as possible. Even if you don't want to evacuate, it will be much safer to leave than to stay. If you are thinking of evacuation, better to leave earlier than everyone else, as you won't be stuck in as much traffic while evacuating. This wildfire is spreading very fast, and is getting extremely dangerous, so people caught in the fire need to stay safe.
Sabrina (Philadelphia)
The wildfires in California are separating families from their loved ones and causing a lot of damage to homes. I think what James Woods is doing is really great because he is a celebrity who is helping people and doing great things with his publicity.
Jason S. (PA)
For so many years, California has been destroyed by these giant wildfires. In certain areas like California, it can be surprisingly easy to start such a giant fire, as the climate in certain seasons is dry and stays dry because some places get very little rain! It is dreadful that thousands of people have to evacuate their towns and cities and in some cases come back to land with just rubble on it! The worst part is that all of this happens most times just because some careless people left a campfire burning when they left the campsite! Some people think that they do not need to evacuate when they get a threat or warning, they just think that they can "get through it", which is a foolish idea, because if there is a warning, there is a situation that has been deemed dangerous by many people coming! I hope that the fire does not get any worse and that people keep their wits about them!
george (the land of philadelphia)
its global warming. i hope that the nxt president since trump will hopefully never get re ellected will care more about the climate. how does donald trump not see the clear signs that global warming is exist. it is not aliens it is real. i was sold when i heard that the old lady was rolling down the street in her wheel chair. while i would have loved to see that, i am prompt on my statement that trump should be the impeach and global warming should be taken seriously. it is very sad that people burned alive and does anyone know if old lady survived the one in the wheelchair?

@george We all know that this is true! Thank you for bringing this important point up!
Yo Gamer Ayush P. (Ain't nobody getting my location)
This is very terrible! I mean, I know California is very vulnerable, but this is very extreme. There is three wild fires! California residents should make an wild fire escape plan in case something like this happens in the future. This time there is 44 dead and 200 missing. If you have an escape plan, in the future, if it happens, you won't be one of the ones that die.
- (-)
@Yo Gamer Ayush P. That is a very interesting username.
Anna P. (School)
I am devastated that this has to happen to any living thing. This is not just including humans, but animals as well. Everyone is focusing on all of the humans that are in danger, but animals around that area are getting little, to no assistance, or even attention. Animals are completely equal to humans, and to think that they are supposed to just "save themselves" is horrible. Why should they have to suffer, and we don't? How are they supposed to get out of this dreadful natural disaster that is an effect of the global warming we, as humans have created?
Tino K. (Philadelphia)
I have never had to evacuate my home, so I have no idea what the residents of Paradise and other counties affected are feeling. I am strongly disappointed in our president that instead of trying to comfort the people of California, he threatened to take away their federal funds which pay for their firefighters! He fails to believe that climate change is real, and here is one of many examples of how devastating it can be. I admire the courage of the first responders, risking their lives to save others in need. Their bravery shows how we can get through things together. I urge people to leave their homes if they are trying to hunker down, as this could lead to injuries or death. Your life is worth more than your house.
Sophia Bacchus (Philadelphia)
I think that it is devastating that people are dying from these wildfires. If people are not losing their life to shootings or attacks, they are losing their life to nature. It is just hard to imagine losing all of your personal belongings and house. Even if they survive, everything has turned to rubble. This can have a major affect on people for they could lose all of their life savings. All I can say is that its going to be hard, but if those who are fighting against the wildfires persevere they can make it.
Sivan F (Philadelphia)
@Sophia Bacchus I 100% agree with you, and I think you phrased this really well. This is so tragic, and I can't even begin to imagine the impact this has on those affected by it. ...and you used the wrong spelling of "effect" in your 5th sentence.
Tiko Morris-Louis (Philly)
The wildfires in California were devastating and heart breaking. I believe James Woods was right for helping missing people find their families. My condolences go out to the victims and their families. Keep Fighting Fire!!!
lily Chancey (Philadelphia)
These wildfires are horrifying and mortifying. While they may seem like natural disasters, it is clear from the amount and pure devastation of these fires that these are our own fault as humans. These disasters all stem from global warming, which may seem hard to believe as just the warming of the atmosphere couldn't create such monstrosities, right? Wrong. The amount of kindling that makes a perfect place for fires is caused by global warming! People need to step up and make a change before these abnormal disasters become normal, as the video said.
Nico M. (Pennsylvania.)
What happened in California is terrible. The fact that people have to suffer from the loss of their homes is devastating. Also, there were nursing homes filled with elders that were getting burnt down. 44 people that died and 200 people are missing. This would be a horrific if this were to happen to anyone that I know or even me. People do not deserve having their houses burnt down especially if it was costly or gad family heirlooms. I hope the people that are missing are found and the death toll does not grow any larger.
David Wang (Philadelphia, )
After reading this, I felt extremely sad due to all the horrible destruction that has been caused by the fires. People lost so much, and so many people are missing. I hope that everyone who is missing is okay and they can be reunited with friends and family soon.
Benjamin Chiem (Philadelphia,PA)
It's sad that California, which is such a beautiful place, is so susceptible to wild fires. These are large and dangerous wildfires as well that take many lives. I appreciate the firefighters that are risking their lives combating the flames and hope they stay safe and return back to their families. Hopefully, the fire will be put out soon even though that isn't likely. These wildfires seem to be occurring every year and they seem to be getting worse and worse. I hope everyone who is in an area that is or will be affected by the wildfire is safe.
lilydaflower (somewhere)
@Benjamin Chiem that is very tru.
lilyrox (school)
@lilydaflower yass gurl slay this is so tragic!
Jonah (Philadelphia, PA)
I have tried to stay away from the news as of late. However, this has concerned me above all else. This is such a terrible thing, and I would not curse it upon my worst enemy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this terrible phenomenon.
Ian Birley (Philadephia)
This is frankly horrifying
Ian Birley (Philadelphia)
@Ian Birley The events in California are terrible and they need help from us
- (-)
@Ian Birley, I feel the exact same way. This is the worst thing that could happen to someone, having told to leave their house, and that their house might not be there when they come back!
- (the person who replied before) (-)
@Ian Birley, Yet again i agree.
Nicolas Dorazio (Philadelphia)
The fact that California has been devastated by these wildfires is just sad. I urge anyone within 500 miles of the wildfires to leave as soon as possible. Stay safe! Think of the first responders, putting their lives on the line just to save yours. Make their job easier by leaving so they do not have to worry about innocent bystanders. Just leave and be safe. STAY SAFE!
Nicolas Dorazio (Philadelphia)
@Nicolas Dorazio I hope everyone is safe! Rather be safe then sorry.
Ashlyn (Aspen, CO)
The wildfires in California are causing so much damage and are devastating. They are separating families from their loved ones who are missing, or in some cases were killed by the fires. The hardest part is it is so hard to stop the fires because California had such a huge drought and everything is so dry. So many people have lost their homes and their beloved possessions. Some had no time to even grab anything before being evacuated. They lost everything. Even celebrities are losing their house. It's just crazy to believe something like this could cause so many deaths so quickly.
Sam Doyle (America)
I think that Mr. Woods is doing the right thing with his power. He has recognized his widespread influence and his ability to communicate his opinion. I checked out some of his comments on his twitter feed and he seems like he has good intentions. I love how he retweets and spreads stories of people reconnecting with loved ones, stories of heroism, and donations. He is truly a good person trying to do good things and has good intentions. Please continue to support victims of the fire Mr. Woods.
Amalia T. (Philadelphia, PA)
The lives lost from the wildfires on top of the shooting in a Thousand Oaks bar that killed 12 people must be really devastating for California. Neither of these events could have been predicted adding to the devastation of them. I cannot begin to imagine what the loved ones of the victims must be going through and I hope that these areas of California are able to recover.
Niara Hughes (Philadelphia, Pennslyvania )
I support what Mr. Woods using social media to raise awareness for the victims of the wildfires happening all over California. By using social media influencers can spread awareness for all the people who have died, been injured, and are still missing. One influencer I know that has been producing awareness is one of my favorite YouTubers, Shane Dawson. Shane has been tweeting since the fire about his mom lost their childhood house, it has been rough for them but they are working through along with all their friends and neighbors.
Stocovaz (Philly)
I think that what Mr. Woods is doing is amazing and many more celebrities should be trying to do the same thing. Since he is a celebrity, many people pay attention to what he says and does. People who pay attention to what he do will realize that they need to help the people that are affected by the wildfire. I think that more celebrities should be acknowledging this so many more of there fans realize that something needs to be done about the wildfires. People cannot just stand by the sidelines and feel sorry for people in the wildfire conditions. Instead they need to do help the people in the wildfire conditions. That is what Mr. Woods is trying to do, make people aware that people have lost there homes and have no place to go because of the dry conditions. That is what more people should be doing, making people aware so we can help them survive in these terrible conditions.
Ami S (Phildelphia, PA)
I think that celebrities using their twitters to reach out to people about the fires is a great idea. I think Mr. Wood is doing a good job because he can use his platform to inform people about issues such as these. He could tell people on his platform about missing people, burned structures, and start campaigns that no normal person could do. Celebrities have more power than regular people, and in these situations they can help people out. If celebrities spoke out more about these issues we might be able to get a lot done.
Aryan (Patel)
I think what Mr. Woods did was a really helpful and kind thing. He used his fame to help people in need. He is using his Twitter to find missing people. He does this by posting something and then using hashtags that people can use to find their loved ones. I have not heard of other celebrities using their social media to help people in California, but there might be some who are using their social media to help I think what Mr. Woods did was a really helpful and kind thing. He used his fame to help people in need. He is using his Twitter to find missing people. He does this by posting something and then using hashtags that people can use to find their loved ones. I have not heard of other celebrities using their social media to help people in California, but there might be some who are using their social media to help. I have heard about the fires in California. They are very devastating, both to the people and the community. As of November 14th there are 48 dead and around 200 still missing. California is being destroyed. Many places have gone down and the roads are jammed with destroyed cars. There are also many people who weren't able to escape in time. This is really sad.
Jonah Levi (Philadelphia, PA)
I really think that Mr. Woods is an amazing person for doing this. By being a celebrity, he has a lot of power. With this power he can get a lot of attention on this issue. I truly believe that this was a tragedy. Though this is only a natural disaster, I think all of these lives could be saved next time if we are more prepared. I think this is what Mr. Woods is doing and I think that he is great for it.
Janey Li (Philadelphia, PA)
I think what Mr. Woods is doing is amazing. Its inspirational because he´s using his own fame to help with the devastation of the fires. I truly believe that this was a great deed to help those victim to the fire and others could help with this by using their own fame to spread awareness about the damage this has caused to citizens of California living in the impacted areas.
Molly Hatfield (Philadelphia, PA)
I honestly think its great that Mr. Woods is doing this. As a celebrity he has much more power that normal people do and the fact that he is jumping on this opportunity to use his fame to help people is really just amazing. I have not heard of any other celebrities doing this but I'm sure there are many other celebrities taking the opportunity to use their fame as a way to help people- right now in California with the wild fires, and in many other places where horrible things like these are happening.
Rhoslyn K. (Philly)
- I think that Mr Woods is doing is great because he is using his fame and followers on Twitter to raise awareness about many fires. Mr. Woods’ fame led his Twitter followers to repost his comments and hashtags with his name in them and saying something about the California fires. - I think that the California fires are devastating. They are spreading all across the state, and are ruining so many homes. I know someone who lives in California and has a house down in Malibu, California who had to evacuate their home and go back to their regular house, yet the air was still filled with smoke up there. The fires are just so terrible in so many places because they are filling roads with ashes from cars, and killing people in their cars.
Yehuda Mahlab (Philadelphia, PA)
I strongly believe that politicians should be looking further into these natural problems. We should be worrying about global warming and climate change. Also, look at all the damage this has done. This has killed a few and has even had about 400 missing. Not including the thousands of people forced to evacuate their homes. We have to be a better community and better to the environment!
Jonnah Berger (Philadelphia)
I think the fires are devastating. All three that are happening now and all the past fires in America. It is almost impossible to stop the fires with the strong winds and all the trees and home there is nothing for it not to burn on. Especially when the fires are moving the length of three football fields every minute. There is no way human force can stop that. I think that the work that James Woods is doing is really good. It is great that he is popularity for a good cause.
Yehuda Mahlab (Philadelphia, PA)
I strongly believe our politicians should be looking into these things more. Also, we should be looking further into climate change because that definitely affects what is happening in our environment. It is insane that so many people have gone missing from these fires. Also, thousands of people have had their houses on fire and have had to leave their homes due to these fires. I feel if we were more cautious about our usage with fire the world could be a better place. I think that if Kim and Kanye can get firefighters to fight off the fire for their whole neighborhood. Why, can't all neighborhoods get this service for free. Why is the only way to get protection for their homes is having to pay money?
Darlene M. (Philadelphia PA)
I think Mr. Woods is doing a great job of spreading awareness. He is a very famous and influential person who has a large following base. With his large following base, he is helping others to find missing people on his platform. I am not sure if any other celebrities who are using their social media presence to spread the word about people who are missing and how to contact their loved ones if any information is available. I personally don't know if wildfires are going to get any worse in Calfornia. I do know that since Northern California is very dry, hot, and has high wind speeds they are vulnerable to wildfires. it is very difficult to stop wildfires once they have grown very big because the only way to stop them is water. I feel there should be a procedure that everyone in California is aware of when a wildfire strikes. Many people are losing their only places to stay and all their prized possessions. I am infuriated that our very own President first resorted to going on Twitter to tweet about blaming gross mismanagement of forests as to why to wildfire happened. He should have checked at least to make sure people were okay and were able to find their families and relocate to safer places.
Jason B. (Aint nobody getting my location)
Since the 29 dead and 200+ are missing from this one fire, it is scary how over time, it affects the lives of the dead/missing and their families. I personally agree with what Mr. Woods does, using his 2Mil+ followers to draw attention to what's happening. He advocates for the many people missing, just because of the fire. Fires in California sometimes scare me, with how much destruction there can be in just mere hours. It's crazy how beautiful place like California can be that deadly. Seriously, more and more bodies are found each day, just because of basic hazards that become intense due to the dry region and gusty winds. This is honestly something worth noting and taking a good while to think about. Similar to school, California is basically a living hell.
Anya Finlay (Philadelphia, PA)
The wildfires raging across California are horrific and heartbreaking. With at least 44 people dead and more than 200 people missing this natural disaster is not only physically devastating but also life altering. I think that it is honorable and important for people like James Woods to use their resources and fame to help people during these situations. Mr. Woods used his Twitter account to help people find missing friends and family by tweeting specific hashtags where people could look for information on the location and well-being of their loved ones. I am not aware of any other celebrities' contributions in helping residents in California but I hope that they are using their platform to help those who need it most during these fires.

Last night when I was checking the weather for this week, looked up the weather for Seaside, CA which is where my friend lives and near where I used to live. I was surprised to find that the weather was “smoke,” since I had never seen that before. I was also surprised because I don’t remember the wild fires ever spreading near Seaside. A few days ago, I noticed that on the weather app, it said the air was not good for some more sensitive people. I feel like this shows how fast and how much the fires are spreading, and they are getting worse by the second. I really hope the fires don’t spread outside of California, or to all of California.

I have not been paying much attention to the wildfires but now I have heard about the damage it is effecting people. I do not personally know anybody that was effected by this, but I do know that Gabe Kapler, the Phillies manager had his house burn down. I know that because my favorite baseball team is the Phillies. I had this crazy idea that what if we took a giant water balloon held up by a crane, and dumped it on the fire. This probably won't happen but it seems like the fires are becoming uncontrollable, and if we had a better way to extinguish the fire than we would have used that method already.

I think Mr. Woods is doing a really good thing. He is a celebrity with two million followers on Twitter. Since he is such a famous and influential person, I think it's great that he uses that to his advantage and is helping others. I'm not sure which other celebrities also advocate on finding missing people, but I'm sure there are many others like Mr. Woods. I find the wildfires in California distressing and terrible. You never know when something like this is going to happen. Unlike natural disasters like a tsunami or typhoon, the only way to stop the fire is with water, but how do you stop the fire if it is so big? These types of things are scary to think about.

I personally think that wildfires are going to get much worse these next couple of years, because of how dry some states are getting. I also believe that there are no solutions to this, we can not prevent huge wildfires like the one that happened in California.

The wildfires in California are absolutely devastating. They are so scary, and they leave so much disaster behind once they are out out. The most difficult part of the fires is that they are so hard to contain, and in California especially, have so much dry fuel to keep ongoing and growing.

These wildfires are killing so many people and they're so uncontrollable. Somehow we should be able to control this, but I know we can't.

My opinion on the california wildfires is very strong. I think that they are a very hazardous natural disaster because although they are one of the only natural disasters that can be prevented but it is still incredibly difficult to stop. they also are very destructive and they destroy everything in their path while spreading quickly and rapidly. I believe that the fact that many california residents are vlosing their lives, homes, possesions, and love ones and they arent being replaced is depressing. many celebrities are losing multi-million dollar houses and they arent getting repayed for them is also very sad alon with residents losing everything. i wonder if the drought has anything to do with the wildfires such as a dry environment or not helping extinguish the fires. the fires are terribly hard to extinguish but the longer it takes, the harder it gets. the fires are the worst natural disasters that america has received in many years in my opinion.

California is definitely the most vulnerable place for wildfires, as there are many wildfires in California each year. Every individual person that lives in California should always be ready for an emergency evacuation, in the case that there is a wildfire next to their home.

I am very devestated to hear of the California wildfires. However, I am incredibly offended by our president. Instead of giving a public speech about the sorrowful event that has taken place, and suggesting ways to fix it, he is tweeting about who he blames. The current issue shouldn't be who caused the fire, it should be saving lives and recovering. The fact that he is accusing and threatening to remove funds from the agency that is trying to prevent these incidents seems immature and bordering on stupidity.

I forgot to write this because I lack all basic skills required to remember things like this, so I am adding it now. I am very proud of actor James Wood for aiding people in this chrisis. Seems like he has a better grasp on the situation than a lot of people, and is doing his best to help out. Congratulations to him and other people providing asisstance.

I think that the fires in California have become more and more severe. I heard from the news that two of the fires that are raging right now were caused by some telephone wires. We have to find a way to stop these malfunctions from causing natural disasters.

I think the terrible incident with the California fires brought tragedy and suffering. There were 29 people dead and over 200 people missing. Many homes and buildings were burnt down by the raging fire. Some people couldn't escape the fire and burned to death. Many firefighters came to fight the fire, but could not stop it. This fire has caused emergencies like never seen before. The aftermath after all the fire is going to be terrible. Lots of rubble which is going to take lots of effort and time. I think celebrities are helping out with the fire trying to help neighbors and friends. We should take action and help out others who are in need of help. In conclusion the raging fires in California really affected the state and the people.

I have been able to follow what the fires have been doing and I feel like in Califonia is the most promanate for wildfires like the two that are already there.
