Re: National Parks are bearing a disproportionate share of the effects of global warming. What a stupid statement. What proof is there of that situation being real? Why would the effects, if there are any actually attributable to GW, be different there than in any other forested mountainous area of the surrounding private land and U S national forests? I wish I could read an article not laden with half-truth drivel about this issue. No God is not mad at National parks.

The anti-prop 10 advertising was brilliant. Never underestimate the ability to mislead people and convince them to believe the opposite of what is true using the mass media. The ads asserted that the measure would create a nightmare using pure puffery, and then it was run about a hundred times more frequently than the pro ads.
The proposition was not simply written but any well composed one needs to stand a court challenge so it cannot be. But what it did was extend rent control to smaller communities where renters are being exploited like serfs. Big corporate interests who operate as slum lords pricing run down housing like luxury housing are running wild in California. This proposition would give local governments clout that they could not exert individually.
The marketing efforts of these characters was brilliant. It revealed where the weaknesses lie in the ballot measure system.

Given that California's population has been increasing by over a million per year 3.5 million new homes is far from outlandish, just a good start.
The Rent Control proposition failed because large corporate landlords hired people to tell sad but untrue statements to convince voters that voting to allow local governments to consider rent control would hurt tenants. The voters were tricked. The landlords just out spent the poor tenants who desperately need protection.

The "insurgent" campaign of Trauss resulted in a 3rd place finish and less than 20% of the vote. Fringe candidate a better descriptor.
Those large red swaths of CA are mostly empty.
Item: Trump carried some 25 (of 58) CA counties in 2016, but he got more votes in LA County, where he polled at 22.5% than from all those carried counties, combined.
Until the GOP figures out how to let acreage actually vote, those swaths lack much meaning.

@the dogfather They HAVE figured out how to let acreage actually vote: jerrymandering. 12 million more Democrats voted than Republicans in the midterms, and the GOP gained 2 seats in the Senate. How is that democratic?

You should study the Constitution. The United States was specifically set up so that a few large urban areas would be unable to dominate the federal government. That is why the Senate has two members from each state! Too balance the House!
@Donna Gray You should study spelling.
