Being a conservative, I’m not very fond of the 219 democrats winning the house. I’m not necessarily worried about democratic ideals because I’m only 15 and I can’t really do anything about it yet. However, I am worried about getting legislation through both parties because the country’s houses are at one of their most divided times. One thing I am worried about, is the possibility that democrats in the house aren’t going to look at the facts and the numbers and what will happen to our economy statistically, but look at the feelings and the inclusion of the diversity of our country. For example, Obamacare sucked, and there was a reason the republicans wanted to leave it in the past, but democrats want to bring a system like Obamacare back. The way the two parties balance each other, in my opinion, is that democrats usually focus on the feelings of the people, republicans focus on what’s best for the country statistically. You can get mad about the policies and whatever you want to get mad at, you probably read my first sentence and got mad. However, if you want your country to succeed, you can’t have this mindset of ‘oh, there’s a new republican president, he must suck and all his policies must suck’. You cannot expect change if you are not open to every possible change. If you cannot see the other side of the argument, nothing is going to get done. We’re going to spend the next 2 years with Trump’s ideas and bills being subpoenaed with the democrats in house.

Honestly I didn't pay that much attention to the mid term election. I was shocked and happy though to find out that the democrats gained control of the house. My parents were very happy and this was a huge leap for the democrats. One of the best friends dads was running for State representative. His name is Chris Rabb and he ran alone with nobody against him, The insane amount of voter turnout means that when more people vote democrats win so I do have hope that maybe we can overthrow Trump. Those were my thoughts on the mid term elections.

I don’t pay attention to politics but my parents did and they were going to vote so I had to do it plus I was genuinely interested in the election that was going on and I was overjoyed when we captured the house.I thought that it was a great thing and that stuff were finally going the right way, and now we can even do investigations on Trump to see if he colluded with Putin and the Russians.

I was never huge in politics and never picked a side between democratic and republican, especially the midterms. After seeing and hearing the impact of this event, I am going to start paying attention to the midterms. I still haven't picked a side of voting because I just think I am a little young to have a correct political opinion, but this past midterm has encouraged me to form my own opinion.

Truthfully I had not been paying much attention to the midterms this year until I found out how much this means to me. The Democrats took control of the house which is huge and G.O.P managed to hold onto Senate. The results from the midterms will heavily affect my future because there will be new laws going through such as gun control and more. The house will help set gun control laws and this applies to me because its my life and everyone else at stake. I am not too shocked to see the democrats took such a huge win considering Trumps disapproval rate now. I expected Trump and the Republicans to lose some key states which the Democrats swept up. I feel that now that I have been educated about the midterms I can finally be able to wrap my head around everything.

I did not really pay much attention to the midterm election. I feel pretty good about the results as the Democrats captured the house, while the Republicans captured the Senate. This allows for there to be two different political parties to put their views forward to each other and enables them to work together to help the country. I believe that this means that the government will learn to work better together and will allow the people to be heard in the actions of the president. I believe that to my community this means that the president will be regulated in his actions. What this election means for my state is political growth, more focus on the people, and more benefits to the people. What I believe this means to the nation is that the government will be allowed to work more smoothly, more together, and for the people.

The midterms may have been overlooked by some people, but these are really the most important elections we have. The US government's legislative branch is vital to the function of the whole country. President Trump, a very controversial figure, is now halfway into his presidential term, and the Democrats winning the House is a game-changer. This election's voter turnout was outstanding, and the midterms have an opportunity to be a huge step to taking the US into a different state. Obviously Republicans and Democrats are more divided than ever now, and with a far-right president and a left-won House, our country will change. Maybe this gives us an opportunity to improve our issues as a nation.

I felt a rush of mixed emotions when I found out about the election results. I felt hopeful, happy and surprised to say the least. I think a Democratic majority in the House would mean that Democrats would be able to research things against the current president that the democrats wouldn’t have been able to do beforehand and they’d be able to help make decisions that would help this country and the people in it. I think Republican majority in the Senate would mean that the Democrats would have more limitations on the actions that they would like to achieve. I think the republicans will still try to find a way to get what they want but I also predict that it would be a lot harder than it was before because of the Democrats in the House of Representatives. My friends and family did go to vote on Tuesday because they feel as though the need to set a good example for us younger kids who are still learning. “If people won’t vote for good candidates…because we think they won’t win, why will good candidates continue to run?” -Eric and Rachel Jones. I think I will vote when I am eligible because I think that if we don’t try to make a change then who will?If you don’t use your right to vote, you may lose your right to vote. “Without the vote of a free man, I am but a slave without power to make decisions.” – Gary Olson

I didn't pay much attention to the midterm elections, in general, because these days I don't really watch the news. But now that I'm a bit up to date, I feel like the democrats are finally showing what they're made of and what they can do, as they have gotten control of the house now. The democrats could really change things in our country.

When the midterm elections come I really don't pay attention to the results because I have never thought that this election really mattered because its the president who deals with deals with all our global leaders and the public directly. However, since the last presidential election, I have been following politics a little more and it is deducing my faith in America. But, the recent results of the midterm election has given me new hope because with the Democrats finally controlling the house, we will be seeing new changes in our laws and regulations. With these results, I believe that this new turn in the government that will benefit everyone, not just the elderly and the upper class. Furthermore, I believe that the new electors into the House of Representatives will do their best to balance out the amount of Democrats to Republicans in the government.

I am very satisfied with the results of this midterm election. I think that all the people elected will bring major change to our country and will finally help fix many of the problems that have been caused in the past few years. Most of the people elected are promising to work towards making our country a better and safer place which makes me believe that in the future years we will have less hate, shootings and disagreements. The democrats have so far brought up many issues that they are planning to work hard to fix. I am glad they are thinking about climate change, the cost of prescription drugs and affordable health care. I find it amazing of the democrats to be speaking out against Trump and some of his ideas, as this takes lots of courage. Another amazing aspect of this election is that our House of Representatives is becoming more and more diverse. We have people of all races and more than 100 women. This is ensuring us that all types of people are being heard and nobody is being left out. With the changes promised and the types of people that have been elected, I believe everyone's needs are being considered and the democrats are thinking about people's needs and the environment's too! We are finally stepping towards the right direction and are going to make our country better place for all people.

During elections, I have times where I want to know everything that is going on at the moment, but there is also a time where I just prefer to stay out of it and just let them happen. When I heard the news that the Democrats took over the House 225 to 197 seats that many things are going to start change within the House. Since the Democrats won the house this means that there is going to be investigations into President Trump. This also means that many of Trump's actions may be limited. But with the Democrats in the House, they will probably start with things that they want to change. The Democrats have many things on their plate at the moment, so possibly impeaching Trump is a problem that they are not working on, due to how intense and continuous it is to impeach the president.
Ahsaan Mangum (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
As this was a very important election for both Democrats and Republicans, it also was very important election for myself. This is because for the first time I could actually process what was going on and I was aware of what was needed for both parties to accomplish their goals. The results were that the Republicans (G.O.P) took hold of the Senate, while the Democrats captured control of the House of Representatives. Even though I am not happy that the Republicans are in hold of the Senate, I am excited because the Democrats now have control of the House meaning they can carry out investigations on the president. I think that they meant new life for my community, state, and nation. I live in Pennsylvania which could be considered as a Democratic state, and my community is very Democratic and I know they are happy because with the house in the Democrats control we can finally try to make the nation more Democratic.

Elections haven't really interested me until now. I'm happy for the fact that Democrats now have some sort of authority or power by taking over the House. I hope that the women who were voted into house along with others will have achievements not only leading to the demise of some of President Trump's wants but also bring power to the commonwealth rather than those better off who can afford to go along with Trump's plans for the future of the United States.
Mariska Koruba (Philly)
I am very happy with the diversity now in the house seats. It provides for more equal rights to minorities. Since the Democrats have taken control over the House of Representatives we can finally investigate more into our controversal President. I am also very glad that many more women have been elected, it represents a change in old social norms.
Rachel W (Philadelphia)
Usually, if there are Presidential elections, I would normally keep up with it, but recently with the midterm elections, I did not pay much attention to. At first, I did not even know they were going on. The results of the votes were also quiet surprising to me as the United States has more republican states than democratic. Although more democratic states, have been filled in, my opinion on it isn't as negative. I think that the election of some democrats can allow more open choices to help states or the nation, like more choices towards medicare, social security, or state laws.
Liam Silverberg (Philadelphia)
I have very mixed feelings about this election. I am very happy that the Democrats gain control of the house but on the other hand the Republicans still hole the senate. I am not really surprised that we cannot impeach Mr. Trump yet because it would probably take years to plant and do it. Since the Democrats just got hold of the house, we might not even be able to start the impeachment process until the later halt of 2019. I am also pretty happy that the house can now do investigations on the president like interference or tax returns.
Mahjeah Haile-Jenkins (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
After reading the article, I quite believe that this new Congress party is actually better than the other ones in the past couple of years. First and foremost, the party has over 100 women and a couple of African-Americans. I am overwhelmed that African-Americans and women are taking part in politics. Another thing that I found memorizing, is that the Democrats are taking over the house, while the Republicans are taking over the Senate. This means that the Democrats can limit Trump's actions. I am glad that America is taking this big step in politics.
Jonnah Berger (Philadelphia)
I paid a lot of attention to the midterm elections. Whether it was watching election results on CNN or reading stories about it. I think that it is very good that there is a balance in the legislative branch of the United States. One party won't have to much power in the government. This is good for the country because there are checks and balances. For me, this means that I can feel safer knowing that our government might be better. For my state, I think I'm in good hands with tom wolf as our governor and Bob Casey as our senator.
Gabriel Crothall (USA, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia)
Every time there are any kind of elections, I always follow them very closely, especially this midterm election. This midterm election was one of the tightest midterm elections. The Republicans took over the Senate 51 seats to 44 seats while the Democrats take over the House 225 seats to 197 seats. The Democrats winning the House will finally set limits to President Trump's actions and ideas. Also, at least 113 million people voted on these mid-term elections, also why the it was such a close race, and which was the first mid-term election that went over 100 million votes mid-term history. Health care was one of the main topics that Democrats wanted other people to think about, as that would be the one topic that could make someone that is undecided for who to vote on that specific side. Overall, now that the democrats have won the House, the Democrats now have the power to launch investigations in the FBI against President Trump for example, and many other ideas that the Democrats have in their minds.

I am very glad that the Democrats have gotten control of the house. This could mean the future decisions that the US government makes may be more beneficial for many other citizens, not just the more well-off people. Also, with a greater diversity of views, more world problems may be met. This event also ends the Republican’s eight year hold on the House. It is also amazing to see how the power of the people through voting has such an effect on the “people in charge.”
Kaya P. (Philadelphia PA)
At first, I honestly didn’t think much about the midterm elections, and I didn’t really care about them either. But after I saw the New York Times video about the democrats responding to the elections, I was very surprised and happy because I didn’t think a lot of people would vote for the democrats, especially after the results of the presidential election. I think it is good that the democrats are speaking against Trump and other republicans, because we really need to fix the problems we are facing, such as climate change.
Ashton Warren (John T. Hoggard High school )
I think that it is a sweet and sour moment that democrats have taken over the house who has had a 8 year long hold on it and now democrats have the power to hold trump accountable but my major problem with this is that this will only make it harder for legislation to get trough on both sides. this has been a very inactive congress passing very few bills and being out shined by state legislatures everywhere when bills don't get through people suffer and issues go on unaddressed
