In 2017, I bought Harlem Globetrotters to my 2 cousins, my dad, my sister, my uncle and my grandpa. I had been saving up for a while and had been looking for tickets since October. My family loved the gift and wants to go again this year.
The most memorable gift I've given was a necklace that I made with sea shells for my best friend to remember our trip to the beach. The most memorable gift I got was a decorated box, from my class in 7th grade as a leaving present, of little pieces of paper, each saying one thing they liked about me.
The best gift I've ever given was a ticket to Florida. My mom and I bought a ticket to Florida and gave it to my grandma. She was very excited because she owns a house in Florida but never has time to go. She was very happy.
The best gift I have ever given is surprising both of my friends with a trip to the great escape lodge. There was no special occasion it was just for a fun trip together. The best gift i've ever received is a trip to Disney world. I didn't know I didn't know I was going until I landed in the Orlando Airport. It was a great surprise and I loved it.
The best gift I've even received was a trip to Marco Island, Florida, we get this every year along with other gifts but that is always my favorite. I go at least once a year but it is my favorite place to go and visit with my family in Marco, and also have a great vacation right on the beach.
The most memorable gift that I've ever received is a trip to Italy from my dad. He surprised me with the plane tickets a few days before Christmas last year. My favorite cousins live in Italy and I was very excited to see them again because they're like little sisters to me. We flew into Milan, skied in the alps, and visited Venice and Florence. It was the best trip I've ever gone on and I'm so grateful that I was able to go.
The best gift I've ever given was my fortnite account to my friend who didn't buy skins. And when I didn't play anymore I gave it to him and he was happy I had 50+ skins and lots of OG skins. The best gift I've ever received was my phone in 7th grade. This was the best gift because it was my first phone and I was really excited for it.
Not to sound too cliché but I am sure I will most probably would, I am just going to say it out loud.....The best gift I've ever received is the life I am living. Every now and then you see someone and wonder how lucky you are to have stumbled upon such a great life...with parents who care and a school to go to,and some really crazy friends...it's all silly really....but when you look around you and at all of your loved ones you seem to understand....understand that all those little things you want are really no match for the life you have been given. I mean what can a person want more...
When it comes to birthdays and other holidays that involve gift-giving, I love seeing people's faces when they open my gifts, especially if I know for a fact that it is something that they have wanted and will love. When I give a gift, I make sure that it is something that is significant to them or something that was on their wish list. I would much rather give a gift to someone than to receive a gift myself. However, there was a time where I made an exception.
A few weeks before my birthday, my little sister told me that she was making a present for my all by herself. I had never received a handmade gift from my little sister so I was very excited to see what she made for me. She gave me a picture frame full of pictures of the two of us from the time she was born to my birthday. Also, the pictures surrounded a poem that she found about sisters and how important a big sister is. She hand placed each picture in the frame and painted the background for the poem using multiple colors. This was the best gift I had ever received because it was so thoughtful and personal. She knows that I love pictures of just the two of us and that the colors that she chose were our favorite colors. Also, I love the fact that she took the time to find her favorite poem about sisters. My sister and I have always been really close and this was the first time that I had received a gift from her that she made. This picture collage was truly the best gift that I have ever received.
A betta fish. It was a spontaneous idea really. Something I mentioned to my dad maybe a month ago. An idea that I would say out of curiosity, but otherwise I had no intention to buy one. Until 3 weeks ago when I spent hours researching and wondering. Pets were foreign territory, nevermind a fish. But this decision to get a fish allowed me to bond with my dad, who I knew once had an interest but nothing more. I learned how he had owned a variety of tanks while growing up. from saltwater to freshwater and had owned a variety of fish from cichlids to sharks. But by asking him I was able to know my dad. Growing up my dad hasn’t lived very close to me and I find it hard to connect at times; As the less u see a person daily the easier it becomes to drift away. But due to my betta, we spent hours travelling to locally owned and different big-box stores. We'd look at the different varieties of fish. He’d tell me about the different kinds, pointing out his favorites as my fascination grew. Trips in the car ride provided room to we to catch up and talk. This was apart of my dad I had never learned about, and something he had let go 17 years ago. These experiences were also a gift to my dad as he rekindled a lost interest, which inspired him to get back into something he believed was behind him. Sure a pet fish may seem pretty obscure as a memorable gift, but to me and my father it will remain something more--something that allowed us to grow closer when we were at a distance.
The best gift I’ve ever received was a trip to Belize. As a birthday gift, my parents let me go on the school biology trip. This experience was better than any tangible gift I could have ever gotten. I personally would rather have experiences than just stuff. I learned about new cultures, history, places, and got to do amazing things that I had only dreamed about before. I got to zipline through the jungle, climb ancient ruins, find secret beaches, and tried foods I had never even known about. The experience opened my eyes and I got to see another view of the world. It made me realize how big the world was and that there are so many more places and things to discover. I had gotten so used to living in such a small bubble in Danvers that when I got to visit elementary schools and talk to the natives living there and what their daily life is like it was so interesting and rewarding for me. This whole experience was amazing and because of it I have new outlooks on life and have grown tremendously from it.
The most memorable gift I have ever received came on Christmas when I was young. I was six or seven at the time, and my parents had gotten me my first bike. I will never forget what it looked like. It was firetruck red, with flames and training wheels. I know it sounds cheesy, a bike on Christmas, But it opened up a new chapter of my life that I filled with memories. I rode my bike everywhere, and it gave me a new sense of freedom. I felt like a grown up as I traveled all over my neighborhood. I don't think it was the bike that was the best gift, but it was the memories I made on the bike that makes it so special to me
The most memorable gift I've ever received was in a wicker basket on Thanksgiving, and to this day I am still fond of it. It was mustard. Now the gift of mustard is one that will evade most people throughout their lifetimes - but I am not one of those people. In fact, the gift of mustard brought my whole eating experience into new heights. Sandwiches, salads, and salami were all victims to the pungent spread of this thoughtful Thanksgiving gift. Who would've thought that mustard could make a 15 year old boy so happy that, in 12 months, he would write about it in a response article. I certainly wouldn't have. But I have taken notes on why this gift was so special to me. It wasn't the mustard itself, and it wasn't the wicker basket either; it was the thought and time that went into the gift. The basket was layered with red and white stuffing paper. Surrounding the edges of this wrapping paper were artificial leaves, creating a bed towards the center. There were two pomegranates placed in the basket, and in the center, there lay the mustard. Five different types of Dijon mustard were placed in this bed in the center. the jars had black labels around the top, and the mustard gave a gold tone to the body of the jar. I remember the satisfaction and happiness I felt from this gift, and I told myself that when I give gifts, this is how I would do it. I can still call this the most memorable gift I have ever received.

The most memorable gift I have ever given was a portrait to my friend. This drawing was a new experience in itself, where I had to learn a new skill that I have always wanted to try. My friend encouraged me to draw again and even helped me become brave enough to ask for an ipad in order for me to draw digitally. I wanted to give them a gift I made from my own hands and time. As I made this gift, there were many moments of frustration, and there were moments of excitement. It allowed me to play around with my imagination and creativity, which I wasn't able to for a long time. I spent hours of trial and error, but in the end I gave my best. This gift wasn't only a gift for them, but it was a gift for me to focus on something I love doing while bringing joy within others with my art.
Looking back, I think the best gift I have ever received was a lucky charm. I got this when I was a baby from a completely random stranger. The lucky charm is a silver charm of Mother Mary which I put on a necklace and still have today. My mom told me that an asian couple had given it to me when they saw that my brother and I were twins. In several asian cultures, twins are a blessing and a sign of good fortune, which prompted the couple to give me the silver charm as a token of good luck. I'm not a very religious person or believe in many superstitions, however, when I wear my necklace with my Mother Mary charm I feel as though someone somewhere is looking out for me and brother and I always feel at ease wearing it. Although it is now old, some of the silver is rubbed off, and it smells like pennies, I still wear it with pride and I would like to thank the people who gave it to me and I want them to know that it is the best gift I have ever received.
For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by skiing. Every year when winter rolls around I find myself getting distracted day dreaming about the perfect ski conditions. This would also lead me to ask my parents for skis every single year. Finally, on my 16th birthday my annual attempt to get my own skis was successful. My parents agreed to get me skis for my birthday. These skis mean so much to me because they are so much more than two pieces of wood I strap to my feet. Skiing has given me a bond with my family and the entire ski community that I would have never had without skiing. Every time I strap those skis to my feet I am reminded of how skiing has brought me so much joy and excitement. I will forever be thankful for the adventures these skis will lead me, on as well as, the opportunities that the skis will provide.
The best gift I've ever received is definitely my exchange year,
given by my parents, who encouraged me to do it, helped me in the applying process, spent a lot of time and effort on it and had to pay a lot of money, so I was able to go,
my little sister and my friends who were very encouraging and happy for me, although they didn't want me to go,
the people I got to know here, who are very interested, open-minded, understanding and kind,
and of course, my host family who were willing to let me live with them for one year and to include me in their family and daily life.
All those people, who helped me to feel welcome, to settle in and make this place my second home, are making my exchange year a lifetime experience.
Also by introducing me to other people, by showing me the American culture with its traditions and individual lifestyles, by letting me be a part of their lives (f.ex. by including me into their circle of friends or activities), by standing by my side helping me to face certain challenges and by helping me to grow while making instructive and great experiences and awesome and unforgettable memories.
I wanted to take this as an opportunity to say thank you to all those, who made my exchange possible, who are encouraging me, being there for me and making it the most memorable, such as awesome experience-thank you!
I'm very pleased, thankful and looking forward to what the future is holding in the next couple of months of my exchange.

After reading, "Giving and Getting" I think the best gift I've ever given was when my family and I gave Chick-fa-la to homeless people in Nashville. We were in Nashville visiting my grandparents and we stoped to get breakfast at Chick-fa-la. We came upon 2 groups of people who appeared to be homeless. My sister saw them, and very happily asked to get out of the car to give them her chicken. My parents agreed, and I ended up giving my chicken minis to a women, who looked so happy, and I don't think I've ever seen someone that happy over food. It really touched my heart knowing that I could help someone on Christmas in that way. That is my take on the best gift I've ever given.
After reading the New York Times picture prompt, "Giving and Getting," by Katherine Schulten, I think the best gift I ever received was Christmas of 2014. For the past year, my dad had been deployed in the army in Afghanistan. Before and after then, he been to drill for weeks at a time, but this was different. First, I didn't really understand what my dad was doing, and to be honest, I still don't really know. What I do know is that my dad was finding bombs buried in the ground and detonating them at a safe distance from the roads and people. But I had also never been so far from my dad for so long. My mom struggled to take care of two kids, and a brand new business. Luckily, that Christmas, we were able to safely take my dad home from the airport. In conclusion, the best gift I every received was safety.
After viewing the New York Times picture prompt, "Giving and Getting," I think the best gift I have ever received is camp. Every year one of my Christmas gifts is the opportunity to go to camp. This is my favorite gift because it is one of my favorite places to be. I love getting to see my friends from all over the world each year and I also like making new friends each year.
After viewing the picture prompt, "Giving and Getting", I think the best gift I've ever received was my family. In my immediate family, I was a father's day gift and my mother's birthday gift because I was born so close to both. Since then, I've had several cousins in my not immediate family that I am really close to and grateful for. I think family is my favorite gift I have received, and that has come in different people, shapes, and sizes.
Based on the New York Times article, "Giving and Getting," I feel that the best gift that I have ever received was a time at high tea at the Chancellors house. My Grandmother gave this gift to me last christmas and we drank tea and ate small sandwiches like they do in England. My friend and her grandmother also went to have high tea. We had a really great time in the fancy venue. The best gift that I have ever given was when I was in my old school and we went to the hospital and sang christmas songs to the elderly people. I feel like we sang very well and we were practicing the carols for weeks. All of the patients looked so happy and it was a really priceless moment.
After viewing the picture prompt giving and getting by Katherine Schulten I think the most memorable gifts I've ever given is encouragement. Yes encouragement A few years back in 2014 my grand mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's. She wouldn't or do anything active so I really hat to encourage her. She started eating do more activities she got a whole lot better. But last spring it got really bad and now she has advanced Parkinson's.In conclusion I really hope I can encourage my grand mother to start being active get better.
After viewing the picture prompt "Giving and Getting" I think the best gift I've ever given was a picture collage I made for my best friend. I printed out lots of pictures and spent lots of time gluing and putting it together. She loved the gift. The best I've ever gotten was probably be, some LED lights that I had wanted for a while. I put them up in my room and enjoyed it very much.
After viewing the New York Times Picture Prompt, "Giving and Getting," I am very thankful for all the things I am given. I think the most memorable gift I have recieved was a beanie from my grandfather. It means a lot to me because he passed away last year. It reminds me of all the fun and dangerous things we did because we did because we always wore our own beanie together. In conclusion, out of all the gifts I recieved, and the beanie he gave to me, I am glad I gave him a gift of all of our memories. They are times we will never forget, and I cherish all the moments we had together.
I have a friend who really wanted pierced ears for years but was afraid to do it. I arranged an appointment w/ a jeweler to have it done for her 45th birthday. To get her there, I asked her to go with me to look over an antique pin. The jeweler told her he was all set. She asked "Set for what?" & he said, "To do your ears." After a bit of hesitation she said yes & she's been happy ever since - upwards of 30 years ago.
