And here is why liberals don’t want voter IDs, LOL.

Where is the often repeated comment from Times readers that "There has NEVER BEEN one documented instance of voter fraud." California, who has the motor voter rule, will register illegal aliens.

Saw this coming a couple of yrs. ago when renewing my DL. Above the voter registration block on the form in red is a warning that registering when not eligible is a crime. I LOL'd- so that's supposed to stop someone who entered the country illegally but was granted a DL here in CA? Of course not! They're in survival mode, acting in their best interests and those of their families. Voting certainly fits that bill because it involves candidates/propositions pertaining to issues that affect them directly like immigration reform/enforcement, healthcare, and education. Don't get me wrong- I'm a registered Democrat & taught ESL to some very nice majority-undocumented students east of L.A. for yrs. Some students were illegal but working toward fixing the problem; others refused because they don't feel they have to because we stole their country- yes, that's a thing in some circles. What on Earth possessed the CA election commission to buy into adding voter registration to DL apps? Did they really believe DMV workers would actually screen applicants adequately? Hah! I agree with Lane's observation- Spanish is indeed a prominent language at the DMV so many workers might share applicants' agenda to vote candidates and policies into law that promote their agenda. It's truely short-sighted and foolish to assume anything different would happen. And it's a slap in the face to responsible immigrants who've gone through the proper process. That box must be removed from the application.

The way this is supposed to work: You go in to take the test armed with a document that indicates a home address (utility bill qualifies). You complete the form with the last 4 digits of your social security number (or someone's number). The name and the social are supposed to be verified by a Sacramento office prior to issuing the permanent license. There are many ways this system can be and is probably compromised. I wrote about this before and was immediately trounced by readers who said there was no way an alien could vote, and I was propagating rumors. The system depends upon the registrant telling the truth.

Having spent time at local Cslifornia DMV..Spanish is the default language spoken,,registration of illegals to vote while applying for drivers licenses is no accident. These folks won't be asked for ID nor their name and address likely correlated with voter rolls if they decide to vote. Many illegals already vote legally in some local elections in California sanctuary areas...don't expect 'concerned' state officials to do much about it.

@Lane "To register in California you must: -be a citizen [SEE?] of the United States -be a resident of California -be at least 18 or older on Election Day to vote -not be currently in state or federal prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony -not be currently found to be mentally incompetent to vote by a court Eligible citizens [SEE?] can go to their county election office or a designated satellite location to register and vote conditionally. These ballots will be processed once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process."

Sorry to be dense here, but, as an out-of-state reader, how, exactly, did the California DMV screw up? In what way did they 'mistakenly register[ed] 1,500 individuals to vote'? There is a Motor Voter law, that I get. But I did not read here what was done improperly. ??

One thing I remember saying when I sold my old car this year (am not buying another car) is that I won't have to go to the DMV again. The lines are normally out the door, sometimes along the side of their building.

So California grants drivers licenses to illegal immigrants and also automatically registers people to vote when they obtain a drivers license. Interesting.
Flora (San Francisco)
@M Automatic voter registration only happens when you are a citizen, and your registration documents include a US Passport or a US Birth Certificate. This eliminates all those who are not citizens from automatic registration.
Concernicus (Hopeless, America)
@Flora I am vehemently against our semi-open borders policy and the coddling of people who do not belong here. Thank you for pointing out that illegal aliens will not be automatically registered to vote. This is one of those stories where the headline grabs all of the attention. Thanks for pointing out the real story.

@Flora Not so in this case... https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/california-dmv-non-citizens-may-...
