Weird. Here in the US, we can file charges just on suspicion, and might not wait a quarter of a century for the trail to get really cold, witnesses to die off....and the Norwegians call it the NCIS!

Rather courageous of the NYT to publish such an article. We all recall the blowback Charlie Hebdo faced after its slaughter from similar sectors of the English language media, no (and the NYT did not exactly shine through with its courage at the time either, did it)? And the slander, bad faith, and ignorance (no, CH isn’t obsessed with Islam, as a study has factually shown; yes, it is crude and not to everyone’s liking, which isn’t a permit to slaughter) it faced from PEN writers when the survivors of a massacre of almost 20 people were recognized for their commitment to freedom of speech. I sincerely hope the NYT stays consistent, and urges other Americans of a similar persuasion to stay as courageous and committed as the men in this article, or the thousands of men and women all around the world risking their lives for freedom from religious bigotry and fanaticism, which is still very widespread these days (from American inspired Uganda to faux-historical Russia, and particularly, very particularly, in the so-called Muslim world).

It's difficult to accept Islam is a religion of peace when heads of state call for and advocate killing people because of their publishing a book.

Unfortunately, there are ‘Christian’ countries around the world i.e. Russia & some African countries that see no problems with killing LGBT folks.

@Mary Sampson: Very true. But, they don't do it in the name of their faith.

@Mortarman Pls., Re-read your history books.
