‘You Expect That Kind of Thing at Dartmouth’
MAYBE HE DID, BUT NORMAL MEN DIDN'T.
A British theologian in the 70s once said that the only people capable of perceiving truth are artists, mystics, and clowns. We need comedians now more than ever.

"Best of Late Night" provides readers with a summary of the other side of politics as seen through humor. God knows how important THAT is!

These comedians are truly amazing and they're so nailing it, but how about featuring some of the amazing female comedians also riffing on this material? It's the same few white male comedians here every time you run it (with an occasional Trevor Noah). I know it's the "best of late night," but you could rename: the late night slots are still a boys' club.

@EMB As a ME TOO-er & a feminist, I am glad to hear from the male comedians with the widest audience who stand with women in this era of woke consciousness of male predatory instincts, chauvinism & patriarchal behaviour against women. It is right & good that male comedians turn their satire, irony & biting wit against other male members of their tribe who offend against girls & women. It provides a welcome balance for women (& men) to know there is another side who DO support women in their struggle for respect & equality.

Judge Kavanaugh may or may not have had sex with "that woman", whoever she may be, but did he violate state alcoholic beverage control acts in Maryland (as a high school student) or Connecticut (as a college student)? During his high school years, he would have been violating Maryland law by drinking hard liquor (minimum age 21) or beer and/or wine (minimum age 18, raised to 21 in 1982). In Connecticut, the legal age for drinking alcohol was raised from 18 to 19 in 1982, to 20 in 1983 and to 21 in 1985. Too many of the stories on the judge indicate that he was a heavy party drinker in his high school/college years; for example, www.law.com/americanlawyer/2018/09/18/brett-kavanaugh-was-a-bad-teenager...
Does the Supreme Court need another religious preppy or would it better serve the country to have a more centrist candidate confirmed?

Sad that Colbert did not make the critical point: We KNOW NOW that Kavanaugh is LYING NOW. He denies doing it, but knows he may have done it when he was too drunk to remember doing it.
That is grounds to remove him from the legal profession through disbarment. Can we find him a new line of work where his criminal ways will not endanger others? Readers, please offer suggestions.

As much as I appreciate Colbert's wit, I truly resent his insinuation that Kavanaugh-like behavior would be expected at Dartmouth. Yes, there was that "Animal House" stereotype long ago, but back even then it was more myth than reality. As a member of Dartmouth's Class of 1967, I am pleased by the equality and respect for women at the College.

@Edward Kern
If you ask around from the women, you might be surprised with what you hear back.
I’m not attacking Dartmouth. But, I believe that women have had to overcome a lot to get here. MeToo has been long overdue.
I have personally read a Barron review of colleges (back in the 80s) where they described a top 20 college and included words to the effect “if you are a woman and you’re walking the campus grounds between x and y after 10 pm, members of rival groups will meet at abc and shake hands...”
What do you think that was all about??
When women start to open up about all they’ve experienced, you might be horrified by its scale.

Colbert is absolutely brilliant. He is so quick it makes your head spin. Comfortable in anyone's presence, I never miss a show. Bravo, Stephen!
