Uno was STERILE? It would have been interesting to find out when the owners discovered his line would not continue. Very sad and a big loss for the breed.
I lost my purebred miniature schnauzer to a meninogioma last Nov. at age 15 yr, 2 mo. I know how heartbreaking Uno's cancer diagnosis had to be for his owners. All condolensces.

But what about his being sterile? Had he been neutered because he was a show dog? That doesn't make sense, though, because surely his owners wanted him to breed?
A beautiful dog

I too was captivated by Uno. He was "the most perfect beagle," and I say that even though I owned and loved a beagle of my own (who watched with me on the couch when Uno won Best in Show). Rest in peace, Uno!

Gosh, thank you NY Times- I really needed this - can't forget Uno when he won, and now when we have lost(him). I love reading about such a special personality that only brought joy to the world -
We need more Uno!

Thank you for this tribute article... Uno was a Champion and was "Uno of a Kind" . Love his people who shared this glimpse with all of us. Rest in Peace, dear Uno...you will be missed!

We were there that night and I still get chills thinking about it. Never saw a dog in all my years of being a Westminster groupie who owned the place the way Uno did. He radiated personality...you had to smile when he was strutting his stuff. A grand champ!

Uno's name said (bayed) it all - first in hearts, first in show, first in life. Great tribute, thank you.

Can’t stop smiling! What a marvelous hound.

Silly to choke up reading about a dog who died at 13 (none of my boxers lived that long) but that's how it goes if you love dogs. He was a champ.

We salute you, Uno!

With all the rotten news these days, this was a pleasure to read. Thank you, Uno!
