As a former roommate and Friend of Hank (as he was called by those privileged to know him) Wessel , I am saddened by his passing. We were part of the “”post-Beatnik, pre-Hippy “downtown” group” as Susan Kismaric noted. “Downtown” being State College, PA in the period 1964-66. Not always sure of what would happen next we flailed around for a bit but Hank always kind of knew he would do something with photography, starting with his trusty Pentax. We grew apart over the years and I last saw him in Berkeley in 1912 and you know what? Not much had changed. His great grin and outgoing personality was the same. Career-wise, a lot had changed, he was loved by museums, galleries, and collectors, but none of this seemed to have affected him. I hope others will chime in with remembrances of Hank and his place in photography. Wayne Campbell Class of 64-65 Penn State University

@Rebel I meant to say I last saw him in Berkeley in 2012 but couldn't find a way to make an edit. 1912 would make me quite a bit older. Wayne Campbell
