A Frenzied Run-Up in a House Full of Divas

How can anyone write an article "House Full of Divas" without including Sondra Radvanovsky? She is one of the greatest artists of our time, and her achievement of singing all of Donizetti's three queens last season at the Met was a feat never before accomplished. Now we await her upcoming Aida which was also never mentioned. And I shall be there to be in awe of her pianissimos, shadings, control, range, and the sheer matchless beauty of her voice. Netrebko is the flavor of the moment, but she cannot compare to Radvanovsky.

Should be fun! Netrebko was in decent form at the dress rehearsal for Aida on Saturday, although I did think Antonenko was in a little over his head...And I can’t wait to see Garança in Samson et Delila (I’ll be seeing it twice, having been invited to someone’s box after I’d bought my much cheaper ticket to go with friends earlier in the run :) - or to hear Garança at Carnegie Hall in late October. Marnie should be interesting, too - Isabel Leonard is usually a good enough reason to go see pretty much anything! And that’s not even mentioning all the stuff to come in the second half of the season. Now if only the Met could get its nose generally out of the air and make it a more welcoming place to be, that would make for a nicer experience all around....
